How do extract preview from a corrupted DNG file ?

Use dcraw to extract the embedded thumbnail image, if that is what you are saying you need.
The command line to do that would be ...

dcraw -e fred.DNG

assuming fred.DNG is the subject DNG filename.
Invoking dcraw without any arguments will display the full usage of dcraw.

Cheers,
Terry

Haha ... coincidently Kodak used to publish a regularly updated booklet, called "How to Make Good Pictures", from the early 1900's right up until the '80's, whereupon it was re-titled "How to Take Good Pictures" ... the emphases are mine.

Why I want a mirrorless camera

I see a disconnect here.
Pentax is obviously not giving you everything you need.
Being a stubborn die-hard Pentaxian is fine (I am one), but ignoring other brands which already provide something you perceive a need for, while holding out for some mythical Pentax mirrorless, is cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Get a Sony mirrorless full frame body and enjoy your adapted lenses. Life is too short.

Fortunately for me, the only projector lens I have is a 70mm (iMax) cinema lens, and it works beautifully on my Pentax DSLR ;)

How to make Google Photos public ?

So far as I'm aware, Google Photos operates a bit like Windows Onedrive. Only people with a link to an "album" (folder) can access that album.

I believe Mark's right, but one thing I've used to share photos with groups of people in the way you describe is Google Drive. Have a shared folder and then give the link to that out to your friends, then within the folder you can have folders for different image albums.

If I understand you right, you could do that with Flickr. You can designate photos as friends, family, or public. The friends also have to have an account. Then you also have to designate people as friends or family. Once they are a friend, they can see photos designated as such. You can easily designate the photos when you upload them.

I use Google Photos for all the snaps that I share on this forum. Here's how:

In Google Photos, use the "Create Link" option to create and then copy a link. Then go to the website ctrlq.org/google/photos and paste the Google Photos link into the converter. It will generate a new link that you can use to share your photos anywhere.:)

(Credit is due to forum member @rayallen who first discovered this method.)

Pentax camera design better than others ?

I have to admit that while I was turning KP on all sides, I was also looking at Sony with the thought that it would still contain traces of Minolta. He didn't convince me, but I saw Fuji, who, as soon as I do not looked at him more closely, didn't tell me much. When I stopped on it, however, I found it formidable and beautiful. Taking into account, I found that it became expensive over time as I added lenses. Other than that, I wanted the mirror. Mirorless is television and I don't like it. So for me, Pentax is the right thing to do. I take pictures just for my pleasure.

What is 'correct' exposure ?

Well, there are some very knowledgable folks here when it comes to sensor tech, but just to kick this off - our eyes can take in far more dynamic range than sensors or film - that's which the other media often appear burned out or blocked up in scenes where we can see detail clearly - and yes, a lot of that detail is recoverable (the lower the ISO the better for that), but we still see better than a sensor does.- and yes - the RAW file out of a camera will seldom look the way the scene does, but if the histogram is bulked in the centre right of the image, and not too much lies ouside its range, most details will be available to you - after that it's just a matter of personal taste, like printing film

To me, its really whatever the photographer wants for the image.
This was more so in film with limited ability (for most folks) to process the film.
Less so nowadays with RAW.

With RAW (esp with the DR of cameras since K5), correct exposure often will be one that gets all the details in w/o clipping highlights and shadows.
This then allows the photographer to process many different version of the same shot to taste.

Indeed, the HP does a lot of this in the background which is why the layman usually claims that the o/p of the HP is better than their more advanced camera.

I am done with m42

Yup, I have a cheap m42 adapter (with the spring removed) on each lens, friction-fit, and that works just fine for me. I've had 2 bad adapters out of a dozen or so. And I know my light and exposure triangle well enough to get workably close exposures.

But, y'know, if you don't shoot fully manual frequently, I can understand why a person just wouldn't want to go through the hassle of m42.

It would be tough to give up my Tak 200/3.5...

Hmmm, I’m not sure if this will help, but from reading your question I wonder if you need to switch info modes on image play back?

On my K-1, the standard information page shows the parameters you mention, but if I hit the info button and switch to a detailed page, I can see the focal length as well as other information. There is also a histogram-view mode on image playback.

Why not APS-H ?

There is a Canon white paper that describes their justification. At the time state of the art fabs used a 8-inch wafer. APS-C would yield 200 sensors, APS-H 42 sensors, and FF 20 sensors.

http://www.robgalbraith.com/images/canon_full-frame_cmos_white_paper.pdf

That was 12 years ago, so obviously things have changed technology wise, but APS-C sensors will always be more economical than APS-H or FF.

K-1 Mark III IVG (Integrated Vertical Grip)
The camera with an integrated vertical grip instead of attaching an optional vertical grip will be lighter weight, lower cost and can have the tripod socket aligned with the center of the optical axis. This is much more important to me than storing an additional media card in the grip. I have a weather sealed container for small parts that is securely attached to my camera neck strap that can store the Hot Shoe Cap, Viewfinder Cap, Sync Socket Cap and spare media cards. BTW, I never remove the vertical grip on my K-1 Mark II. I modified my Stroboframe Vertiflip with an additional 1/4-20 threaded hole so I can center my micro-softbox equipped Pentax AF-540FGZ Flash above the optical axis whether the camera is held horizontal or vertical. Doing this allows for a fairly quick set-up when I need to do grip-n-grin type public relations photos.

I would also like to have the next generation K-1 be capable of doing Pixel Shift resolution with electronic flash by allowing the user to set a delay, measured in number of seconds, between each successive PSR exposure. A sizable portion of my photography is studio still life lighted with electronic flash.

It would be great to have a Sigma Corporation type user removable IR cut filter.

And, of course, bring back the Dust Alert Menu setting! This was a fantastic feature.

I'd most likely need a significant Megapixel increase to justify buying a new dSLR after having recently spent nearly $2,000.00 on the K-1 Mark II.

4K Video? Hell no! I can buy a light weight and compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 for under $1,000.00 that has an integrated lens and is loaded with many desirable features including built-in neutral density filters.

More AF points and increased frames per second? No thank you. I don't need it and I'm not willing to pay for it.

I voted for the smallest possible full frame camera because if you are willing to carry it around, you are more likely to use it. I am sure Pentax could make a full frame DSLR the size of the K-r, or K-5, and still have plenty of features packed into it like the ability to post your jpeg pictures to social media and photo web sites with blue tooth built into the camera and your cell phone. We already know that Pentax can make very good compact lenses like the DFA 28-105 lens and the FA limiteds. A Full frame WR camera that size with improved AF would be just the thing that would attract more buyers to Pentax.
