It been snowing continuously for two days follow by rain and warmer temperature. Swollen streams become small rivers that carve ever changing paths to the sea.

It's been cloudy and windy in my area. Long exposure and BW help to keep me shooting under less than ideal light.

Clarkey, thank you for your suggestions. Here is a shot from today. I was able to capture clouds, high tide and sunset: a trifecta.

Beautiful faces that I encountered in Central Vietnam. The woman sells clay whistles in front of a monastery. The man is a fisherman in Hue.

Still going through my Vietnam photos. Here are my two favorites images. The first is a grapefruit flower vendor; the flowers are very fragrant. I call the second image 'Contemplating'. She was so focused on reading that she did not see me.

Spent several days visiting the ancient city of Hoi An in Central Vietnam. At night, people send lanterns down the river. Will post more images of Vietnam in the next several days.

I timed my visit to the Little Indian Slough for the high tide and at sunset. I had just a few minutes to capture these images. A good pair of rubber boots came very handy.

Highway 20 cuts through the scenic North Cascades. This area of our state is compared to the Alps. Massive granite mountains capped with glaciers and drapped in waterfalls. The most interesting peak is Liberty Bell Mountain (7807 feet) and Early Winters Spires.

Below are three photos that you several commentators have asked. The first is the original photo that I minimally edited in Lightroom. The second is the same photo but the bush is on the right side. The last is a more toned down image based on your suggestions. At this time of the year, the lake is frozen over. As a result, the reflection is not so good. I included the bush to give depth to the image. I thought the fallen leaves at the base of the bush provided some color to the surrounding snow. Placing the bush on the right side was not aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. Most of the color in the sky is on the right side of the photo. Having the bush on the right side made the image seems unbalanced. Thank you for your interest in my image.

This is a photo of Mt Shuksan and Picture Lake. It was taken two days ago. I used Color Effex Pro 4 to edit the raw image. Is it over processed? Any suggestions to improve this image? Thank you for your thoughts.

Skyline Divide on Mt Baker Wilderness is a natural treasure. A four mile hike with an elevation gain of 1500 feet takes you to a ridge with a 360 degrees views. The forecast predicted partly sunny when I went. Upon my arrival, it was cloudy. I could not see the distant mountains. Overnight, it rained for two hours and the wind began to pick up. By sunrise the next day, the cloud parted. The awesome views lifted my spirits. Purple and yellow aster, bear grass and butter cup carpeted the ridge.

Park Butte is a popular hiking destination. The trail provides expansive view of Mt. Baker south face and Black Buttes. This time of year, the heather, lupine and aster are blooming.

I recently spent 3 nights at Cougar Rock Camp Ground at Mt Rainier National Park. The weather was great. Not too many mosquitoes except at Reflection Lake. All the wild flowers should be in full bloom in about 1 to 2 weeks. The first image is from Reflection Lake. The second is at Myrtle Falls. The last is a very friendly ptarmigan taken along the Skyline Divide Trail.

This is a manually blended image. It was a very windy morning. I had to use ISO 1600 to freeze the plants in the foreground. The rest of the image is with ISO 100.

Oleoproteus,
I prefer to use manual mode, with mirror up to take the sharpest image possible. This image was 30 second long. I could not bracket image for longer than 30 sec. Digital blending is a great technique. It takes time to do it well. I prefer spending my time behind the camera than a computer screen. Thank you for your interest in my photo.

The challenge in taking this image is to select the appropriate exposure time. If the exposure time is too long, then the boat becomes blurry. If it is too short, then the ocean waves are more noticeable. I wanted the water surface to be smooth and the boat to be as sharp as possible. After some trial and error I found the right settings that convey the beauty and serenity of that moment.
The City of Bellingham is the largest city in Whatcom County and the twelfth largest city in Washington State with over 80,000 residents. The city is flanked by Mt. Baker (10,781 feet elevation) and the Twin Sisters Mountain (7,021 feet). Being surrounded by such natural beauty, Bellingham is a great place for sport enthusiasts and photographers. One can literally go skiing in the morning on Mt. Baker and spend the afternoon kayaking on Bellingham Bay. An annual event called Ski to Sea race exemplifies the outdoor opportunities; it is a 'team relay race made up of seven legs: cross country skiing, downhill skiing (or snowboarding), running, road biking, canoeing (2 person), mountain biking, and kayaking.'
Best regards, from the City of Subdued Excitement.
