Sigma can, why can't Pentax?

Depends on your definition of "can". My (admittedly not well researched) impression is that the fp hasn't done very well.

Anybody Use Pentax Lenses (& adapter) on a Fuji GFX Medium Format Body?

I am curious about this as well. Considering the GFX uses the same size sensor as the 645D and Z, maybe the vignetting question could be answered by people adapting to that system.

Triggercord tethering software on Android, need your help

Hey, mamonmon. I no longer own a Android device with USB host mode, so currently I can't test it or further develop it. The git repository is a fork from the original svn, though, so it shouldn't be too hard to keep them in sync, if someone wants to pick up where I left.

K-5IIs and moiré at 16MP: would this work?

Indeed. That would be very cool. It was at least worth a shot... And who knows, it might even be good publicity for Ricoh, since I'd make sure to be noisy about their generosity.

When you get your K-3, how will you dispose of your older body

I can't afford a K-3 at the moment, so unless Ricoh decides to gift me one, my K-30 is going nowhere. But, in general terms, I think the best option is to give away or sell your old camera for a low price. If you are a professional, yeah, keep a spare, but else, why have multiple cameras collecting dust on your shelf?
My girlfriend has given the GX-10 much more (and, honeslty, better) use than I ever could have, if I had kept it. And I can always borrow it if I am in a situation I "need" multiple bodies.

So, if you love your cameras, set them free!

Thanks for the praise and support!
As for other "revolutionary" ideas: no, not at the moment. But the sensor-shift anti-aliasing was somewhat of a sudden inspiration, so who knows...

I am not a lawyer, so, legally, I have no idea where I stand. Maybe my post constitutes "prior art" or something similar, maybe not, depending probably on a lot of things, including when the relevant patent was filed. Obviously, the moral question is more relevant than the legal one... since only a camera and lens are in question.

I'll let Pentax decide if I earned it or not :p If I manage to contact them, that is.

EDIT: Sent the email to Ms. Amber Renard of public relations, only person whose e-mail I found. pentaxinfo@pentax.com doesn't seem to be working, either.

Ok. I don't have much hope, but you have convinced me: I am going to write them an e-mail.
I'll let you know how it goes :D

Edit: Now I am wondering whom I should contact... marketing? public relations? in Japan or the US? Jim Malcolm? Their e-mail is harder to find than I thought...

Copyrighting photos - how?

If implemented well, this could actually be a good thing, or at least a shot at reforming copyright law, which direly needs it. In this day and age of author life + 70 years copyright, orphan works, photos or otherwise, are a serious problem: they are cultural wealth that is in practice removed from (legal) circulation for a century or more. Then again, I am rather skeptical it will be implemented well. Or maybe a better solution would be to have saner copyright terms to begin with.

Not being a lawyer and not knowing anything about UK/EU politics, what has the US to do with it? Also, at least according to that link, the UK would not "release the copyright" on the work, but rather license it on behalf of the unidentifiable author.

Question for K-30 users about the Top LCD

Coming from a GX-10 (aka K-10D) I did miss the top LCD at first. But slowly learned to substitute with the the viewfinder readout, and sometimes a glance at the back LCD. If I could have one interface feature back now, I would be the physical metering mode switch (matrix, center, spot).

Just curious.. shouldn't that be the same thing? You get the magnification of Airy dics you save using a smaller focal lenght right back when cropping.
Anyways, in ideal world we'd have tilt lenses for this situation :). Maybe focus stacking is the more realistic option.

Which is which? DA16-50 vs f/2.8 Primes
Posted By c-meier
Replies: 7
I'd say the second shots of each set are the primes, because they have softer out of focus areas, consistent with lack of aspherical elements (except maybe the 24), and sharper in-focus areas, consistent with being primes. I might be utterly wrong, though, as I don't own any of the lenses. I even hope to be wrong and the 16-50 proving better than I thought.

EDIT: I only realized a few minutes later, I know that location :) What a beautiful city and what fond memories of strolling through that botanical park.

Which of the Tokina 28-70s are worth getting?

Thanks for all the replies. In particular this link, which helped me a lot figuring out which lens we are talking about, here:

Apparently it would be the Japan-only version of lens #2. (Screw on-hood, no scale window, gold ring, not SV)
The being heavy part (700g!) scares me a bit, also I was saving up for a moderate wideangle prime, which would have to wait, but the lens seems to be in good condition, and at a around $360, seems an ok deal, specially considering lenses are expensive around here. Hum...I'll have to sleep over it. Thanks again.

Which of the Tokina 28-70s are worth getting?

Hello all,
I have the option to locally purchase a Tokina lens labeled AT-X PRO AF 28-70 2.8. I have heard good things about Tokina lenses, in particular their AT-X PRO line, but still thought I'd "research" my options, first, only to be left utterly confused. How many versions of this lens exist, exactly?

I see two similar lenses in the database, with very differing reviews and price:None of which seem to be the lens I could buy.

I am trying to get the seller to send me a picture of the lens, but in the meanwhile... do you own any of these 3 (or are there more?) lenses? Any insight as to their differences, which is the better one?

Thank you.

Triggercord tethering software on Android, need your help

Bad news: my Android device (an old netbook I had repurposed) completely stopped working, so there won't be much development on this in the near future. If at some point I get a tablet or change my phone for one with USB host support, I will continue working on this.

I don't own any iDevices either, and I suspect it would be much more difficult, since it's not Linux-based, like Android. Most of Triggercords functionality is a direct port of pkTriggercord, a linux program.

Yeah, that's probably it. Altough, this doesn't seem to have that much to do with headphones. It's just using twice the amount of fiber and sending the signal twice, just like it's done with electrical signals sometimes (e.g. pro audio XLR cables).

No idea if Moore's Law applies, but if it does, which should have this in 10 years or so*. Bad news is, our raw files will have grown accordingly. :(

*EDIT: Nevermind, it's 400GB, I misread.. that should take at least 30 years.

That's cool, but looks implausible. Balanced lines (no idea what they have to do with headphones) have been around forever, if that solved the problem it would already been done.

Done. The raw thread markup, for easier copying: It would be nice if the summary on the first page linked to one or more of the s - Pastebin.com
If you still think it's not tidy enough, you could link to my post above, at least. The evaluations on the first post are not very useful without sources, IMO.
Regarding the DSLR-forum posts, I can read it and see the images (even the large res ones), altough I don't have an account there, so I don't think that's an issue.

64MP from a 16MP Sensor?

I remember, "inventing" this as a teenager and trying to sell it to a friend of the family who owned a company that sold (then cutting-edge) CCDs for scientific purposes, only to learn that this had been done long before. This was about 20 years ago, so any patents that existed should have expired by now.

Or maybe someone sold "my invention" to Hassy :)

Don't know where you get that impression. To me, looking at the photos in this and other threads, none of the zooms appear FF-compatible. Even if you considered the 12-24 FF-compatible at 18mm (and the IQ isn't too good in the corners according to http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2800/4082121196_21116a441c_o.jpg and http://www10.pic-upload.de/08.02.13/ukmtj19q6i16.jpg), using it only at that focal length kind of defeats the purpose of having a zoom.
