I trust Pentax will treat the early adopters nicely if there are any teething problems. I have been first in line befor, and will be so again. (I have never had any serious issues though, so I have never tested my thinking) :-)

Remains to be seen. Pentax usually have many smaller features they do not talk much about. Maybe there are some really useful things in there? For instance I am hoping for more than basic tethering over the WiFi.

I must admit I have not, sorry. And now it is too dark even at noon to get any decent photos. Will get back on this when I have reason (and light) to get the teles out again :-)

I will try stacking on my DA200/2.8. I have not seen any reason to do it as it makes more sense (for me) to put a signle TC on the 300. But for those with only a 200 it of course makes sense, so will try. As I managed to get AF to lock even on the 300/4, I would guess it to work better on the 200/2.8, but will let you know when I have tried it.

I am definitely going to use stacking more...but preferrable on a tripod, and with enough time to focus... It is definietly not for sport (on the 300 or 60-250).

I just wanted to report I have tried stacking the new converter. The main reason is I was a bit disappointed there was no 2.0 launched. That would have been the ideal combination for my 200, 300 and 60-250. So when they finally arrived 1.5 weeks ago, I bought two :-)
One of course works great, but how does two actually work.
First some technical limitations. The camera does not recognise there are stacked converters, so inly multiplies the focal length ones.... That is a pity as it will give the wrong information to SR. I have no idea if this is a bug, or if it is a technical limitation with the way Pentax lenses communicate.
I did expect AF not to work on my DA300 or at least to be very poor, and I was right. I managed to get the focus to lock, but it took a lot of time and could not always be trusted. IF you manage to get the focus right, the combintation actually delivers decent quality.
Attaching a photo, ISO 1600, no tripod at full and 100% crop. One without noce reduction and one with (and a bit more sharpening).

Was driving around with a friend today, searching for good photo opps. When we found this young forest of birch trees, we had to stop and spent 15-20 minutes there. I used it as an opportunity to use the FLU-card and controlled the camera from my iPAD.

The DA limited is 20-40? and WR?!

Got to play a bit with the 20-40 on the camera show in Stockholm today. Not a good location to test optical qualities, but I expect them to be excellent, and I did not see any indication that is not a correct assumption.

A few subjetive reactions:
Compared to other Limited it is huge....well maybe not huge, but still a large piece sompared to anything Limited so far. OK, it is a zoom, so that was to be expected (and one of the reasons I prefer primes).
It was light. As we are used with small limiteds full of glass, a 2*zoom of course consists of a lot more air than we are used to. This is of course good, or the lens would weigh a kilo or so, but first impression was that is was light.
The feeling of the zoom ring was good, but still a bit of a disappointment. I alsways compare with old A or A* lenses, but this was like the rest of the Limiteds, even with the seals. So still best in class, but I had been hoping for a bit more 'feel' to it.

So will I buy one? Not sure yet. I have the 20-35 which is a much smaller lens, but much more plastic and not sealed of course. But a K-3 limited with a 20-40 silver would look nice, but I keep asking myself why I would like a camera that looks nice. I already have K5s, K5IIs and now K3, all taking excellent pictures, and that is what a camera is supposed to do, I think :-)

I can also add that the Nordics is getting 100 K-3 limited (silver), all pre-booked. That is a nice trend change I think.

D-BG4 grip can work on the K-3.

I would be cautious with this. They have made the grip not fit for a reason. My personal thought is they have added a high speed serial interface to one or a few of the pins (like they did to the flash shoe) to support future grips/modules with WiFi, GPS and other things. The reason they have made the old grip incompatible is it will break either the grip or the camera, probably the camera in this case. I do not think Pentax would have made the grip not fit if it was only beacause of the moved buttons.

Anyone thinking of their M42 lenses here?

As i said above, as long as the camera does not know what lens is mounted it can not compensate fir the non linearity, it has to be done manually. I do not think pentax has published what they assume, maybe 2.8? Those who claim it work just happen to use lenses close to those assumptioms

As I did not have the old grip with me, it is hard to say. They are very similar, but not identical I think. Possibly the bottom will be identical, but I think you need to waint until someone has tested to know for sure. Maybe if the difference is small, you could adjust it with a file?

Has It Been Confirmed That The K-3 Will Accept UHS-I...?

I can confirm the DNGs I have shot are between 25 and 30M, most are in the 27M range, but they are all taken at ISO 100 and very flat light. I would assume higher ISO would take you up to 30M or possibly even above (beacause of the noise bringing in more detail per pixel, making compression less efficient).

Battery Grip

When I tested the K-3 with the battery grip a week and a half ago, I noticed the grips are very similar. The main change is of course some buttons have moved. I tried to fit the new battery grip to my K5IIs, but that did not work, but the only thing preventing this was that one of the pins now is wider, so it does not fit on the whole at the bottom of the K5. This indicates to me that the old grip might still work on the new camera (of course with the confusion of having the buttons in different locations for horisontal and vertical shooting), unfortunately I did not have my grip avaialble at the time, so could not verify this, but if they really wanted to prevent cross use, they would have moved the pins, och changed the contact or something. So my belief is that Pentax tries to be as backwards compatible as they can, but that there is something new happening in the new grip that means if you fot it to an old house something will break.
I will speculate and claim that they have opened up for serial communication in the connector to prepare for GPS, WiFi, 4G or other modules fitted under the camera or in the grip. Probably something similar that they did in the hot shoe for the K5. But I am purely speculating now, but can't see any other reason.

Anyone thinking of their M42 lenses here?

It does not change anything, the behaviour is still non linear, and the camera can not compensate. How big the problem is depends on what lens you are using, and what aperture you are shooting at. This is why some people see very little problem, while others have huge issues. Using M helps only in the perspective that when you have found a setting that works, you use that until light conditions change or you change the apertue or lens. This is one of the situations I wish there would be a way to lock the settings as it is so easy to accidentally move one of the wheels.

I doubt it. It is really the matte screen that is non linear. And since the exposure is measured from there, you have a problem. The non linear function i depending on the aperture, so the camera can compensate for it with modern lenses, but with old ones the camera do not know what aperture is being used, thus the measurement can not be corrected.

Maybe they have. The new construction is rather complex, could it be they are not yet finished with the firmware in that area, but the shutter might have those capabilities when everything is fine tuned in FW? I am not sure I believe my own argument as historically at least the sync speed has only been a mechanical thing...but maybe not any longer?

Dynamic Range and ISO

Subjectively noice and dynamics looks very similar to my K-5IIs (on pixel level), but scientific comparaisons needs to be done to find out for real. My gut feel is the camera delivers what we are hoping for, but it looks like Adam is going to have a go with a full production model, so we will knoe very shortly. Actually it looks like many of us can have cameras soon, indication is first cameras will arrive here in Sweden in just over a week from now. But this is just an indication, it could be completely wrong of course.

Shot ISO 100, 6400 and 25000 in broad dayligt, and we know from before high ISO in good ligting always looks good.

The bump definitely looks like something that will pop-out. We do not need another flash....so what could it be? Video lighting? A laser distance meter for new very accurate AF? Or a battery compartment for GPS?

I love the design, but I hate the ergonomics. One of the main resons I shoot Pentax is the superios ergonomics of the cameras, so the K-01 does not fit in. If they could manage to make different design (like the K-01) feel good in the hands, I am sure it would be a success as a camera, but now it is mostly just a piece of art :-)

Pentax K-5 II/s rumor update (w/images)...

Still only rumours, even though I did expect some leaks before the weekend to create some additional interest before the launch on monday or tuesday. I think it makes perfect sense to produce a slightly updated K-5. It is a very succeful model, so why not keep it alive for another 2-year period. Not for us already owning a K-5, but for those that still has not decided, and start thinking K-5 is getting to old to buy new. For us with a K-5 they will (hopefully) provide K-3 as an upgrade.

Regarding the K-5 IIs, again just a rumour so far, but I guess it would be a cheap way to create more models om the market. IF it is true I hope they are not just followers, but takes the lead by also removing the colour filter. Imagine the resolution would woudl get from the 16M without a colour filter, like 4 times what we have today. Add a weaker AA filter to that, and WOW, no need for MF by reasons of resolution for sure.

My thought exactly. I think crop factor of 2-3 is what we will see, using Q, and that is the reason why the lenses have numbers, not just mm, they are to be used on different siza sensor.

New lens could be the 12-35 if for APS-C
I think they also have promised a wide angle for the 645 that it would be time to announce.

I have just given up waiting for a tele lens or TC, ordered a Sigma 150-500 (my first non Pentax lens). It is not the final solution, but will keep me going for the summer. For me the lens should be 500 or preferrably 600, but has to be affordable, not cheap, but affordable. The 250-600 would be perfect, but that one I think they can never make at a reasonable price. I guess if they could make new ones at the used price level fo 7k$ it might work. A 500 or 600 at 4000$ would be better, and also more mobile.

Pentax SDM Converter, are you serious interested?

As I see it the converter is a solution to the problem Pentax does not have any long lenses, and if they did they might not be in reach anyway. Of course in some situations it would be flexible to carry a converter rather than a long tele, but for me the focus is more of getting 500-600mm. I have almost given up though and will likely order a Sigma 150-500 in a week or two. I have been waiting for a 500-600 or a 2x converter for more years than I can remember (and no, a 600/4 for 10k is not an option). So from that perspective I would probably give 700-1000$ for a really good 2x converter that works with my DA200 and DA300. But if quality would just be like a Sigma zoom, 300-400$ is more reasonable.
