everytime the politicians send our young men and young women into the face of possible death, or permanent impairment,
EVERY politician should be compelled to provide a close family member,
with those politicians' family members serving, in the "front-line", alongside all the others that are sent.
That might result in a little more diplomacy, and a little less "trigger-happy" sabre-rattling decision making.

Resurrected K-01 as a "Back-Up" Travel-Camera

Thanks, Sandy.
Actually, my first experience with K-01 was a disaster.
My first ever experience with a digital camera, (too many years attached to 35mm film ME, MZ30 & ZX7)
Instruction manual was in Japanese.
The camera was a "Lemon" => Lenses got stuck on, and could not be dis-mounted, Battery compartment got HOT, and mode dial cover fell off . . . . . . i sold it, and bought a pre-owned K-x from B&H, with warranty.
Recent events have caused me to look for a "new" travelling "back-up" camera, ans also a camera i can "Play" with in the IR / Full-Spectrum world.
So, i decided to give the K-01's a go, 2xCamera bodies, different colours, the 2nd one headed in for IR (or Full Spectrum) conversion.
This time, ENGLISH User-Manual downloaded :)

These 2 pics were taken with FA 28-105 lens.

Resurrected K-01 as a "Back-Up" Travel-Camera

Hi there,
First real go at starting a new "Thread" . . . . . . . .

I have a "resurrected" K-01 (shutter-count 400's)
Plan-A is to use this camera, with a single lens, Sigma 18-250 HSM, as a back-up travelling camera (carrying only a spare battery, the whole "kit" weighs in at 1,100g, and gives me 700+ snaps)
K-01 has been criticised for battery life.
Maybe those users NEVER changed Film every 24 or 36 photos
The Sigma 18-250 HSM lens has been "held-over" from my days using a K-x as my travelling camera.

Thank You, GUB - - - - warm fuzzy feelings . . . . . or, was that the Warriors result over the Sharks ??
here is (i hope) a couple of pics, straight from my Kp, unaltered, taken with 18-135mm "kit" lens:
The first (i hope) is the view from my front deck, @18mm, Depth-of-Field Priority "P" mode.
And, the second (i hope) is wife's pot-plant on the front deck, @135mm.

Why not much love for the KP?

aaah yes.
Remember those old 35mm film cameras' "User-Manuals" : they included a wonderful picture showing how to hold a camera correctly, elbows, left hand, breathing?
No wonder us older Pentaxians love the Kp.

This 'thread' is giving out so much positive energy.
Haven;t seen a thread with members so dedicated to their camera model for such a long time.
I really enjoy stopping by here.
Hoping to put together a 'collage' of my Kp equipment, and post it on here.
Rob.

I agree with both "Angulon", and with "vonBaloney".
I have a Nikon Coolpix L830 => small, compct, 34x zoom, AA batteries => it goes everywhere with me. It has a simple "Tilt" LCD, same as Kp, so i was accustomed to using it. Very handy if camera held above head, or low down, close to ground. Also pretty good when SUN on LCD screen is a problem, and, of course, with the Kp, we have the OVF available.
I have also had a K-70, since they first came available. Gave the first one to my granson, for Christmas, 2018. Soon missed that extra flexibility of the fully fold-out LCD in some circumstances, although, when it is open, i am nervous about 'catching' it on something. I ONLY shoot hand-held. But, the LCD can be folded back to a convential position, and folded away, to PROTECT the LCD, I am happy carrying the K-70 anywhere, anytime, any weather, with the LCD safely tucked away, out of harm's way.
Us pentax users can be a tough bunch. Usually complain, . . . . "if only my XX camera also had . . . . . ". Maybe this is because the cameras are so tough, and so reliable . . . . . hence the massive disappointment with the 00 series ABF problem. After all, any "proper" camera repair shop can easily fix it, usually for a modest fee (except in USA, apparently). In Australia, a few years back, i purchased a used K-50 from B&H, and it arrived with ABF. B&H sent me a replacement, and told me to keep the faulty one, so, i sent it to CRK, in Melbourne, and they repaired it, and called it 'warranty', no charge. Ended up with 2 good cameras. Not in the USA !!!!!

K-3 or K-70?

I have been advised, by a Technician at CR Kennedy (Melbourne, Australia) that the solenoid currently fitted, to current K-70's, has been "modified".
i.e. the ABF issue should be resolved, if you buy a current, new camera.
However, i must admit, when i bought a new K-70 kit recently, i took out 'insurance', by purchasing from B&H, and taking their optional 4-year worldwide extra warranty.

Sticky: Dark exposure problems on K-30 or K-50? Discussion Thread

As I said, in Australia, in MY experience, the legitimate Pentax importer, CR Kennedy, DOES support customers.
Also, in Australia, CR Kennedy give 24 months Warranty, not the 12 months, as stated elsewhere on this site

I can only speak to own personal experience, but, if a Pentax user is in Australia, why would you be going anywhere else?

---------- Post added 09-13-18 at 08:00 PM ----------

wow, good outcome Rob, interestingly Kennedy did charge TEDS Camera's for my repair under TEDS extended 5Year warranty ( I have a copy of the invoice )

Re: TED's Cameras, in MY experience with TED;s -------> NO COMMENT (and I will never buy anything from teds again)(Hell will freeze over b4 I deal with teds again)

Is the Pentax K-5 a classic ?

As a Pentax SLR user, since the 1970's,
yes, we did have cameras , before most of you were born,
This "K-5-is-a-classic" ---> "K-3-is-the-best" sounds a lot like a civil war, about trivia, and totally ignores the SUPERIOR qualities of our Pentax cameras (and lenses)
Keep up the good work, children !
