i cant say for sure i used those exact setting but i tried every stop i had (f/4.5-f/29) and a full range of shutter speed and ISO, i do have one which kind of matches the colour of your moon above but when i view it in PSE8 the background looks like blue paint splashed all over it (possibly a damaged memory card). the good thing is the moon is out every night so i dont need to stress myself over it i can just keep practicing but its good to know my lens is adequate. thanks.

great shots, if you could can you tell me how you did this? my moon shots are very over exposed, i tried hundreds of different settings and in every one the moon was just a bright ball of light with no definition. i was using a 55-200mm kit lens so im hoping that a better lens would help but any tips would be welcome.

Hi, I'm Brian Murray, I'm 38 from Airdrie in Scotland. I have always had an interest in photography but never thought about it as a serious hobby, then I managed to drop enough hints to my wife and got a Pentax K-r twin lens kit for Christmas, I actually spent about 4 months researching the best camera to buy and everytime i tried comparing features and specs the k-r always came out on top (for my intended budget anyway), it even seemed to trounce a lot of higher end cameras as well which i was pleasantly surprised at. so since Christmas I have been very attached to the camera and even trying to make a little extra money from it (my main job is as a care home manager). there was a panic moment recently when during my first paid job at a 70th birthday party, my beloved k-r stopped working, i felt like the lonliest guy on the planet and all i could think about was the advice i had read from professionals about always having a back up camera. well, lesson learned now but i will have to save some to get the back up. no such problems getting my own back up with the repair mind you, I took the camera back to Currys expecting it to be exchanged as it was barely 3 months old, they said they had to send it to Pentax first, so i waited, and waited, 12 days later i found out they had still not sent it away and i went to the store and went mad, asking for an immediate replacement, again they fobbed me off blaming Pentax for not providing a courier service so i went home and sent off an email to the CEO and got a call the next morning telling me to come in for a replacement. The only thing that bothers me is i dont know what went wrong with the first camera so I can only hope It doesnt happen again or at least i can get a back up before it does. i have joined a few forums as i feel i want to try and learn photography on my own without going through an expensive college course. i believe i have a natural flair for it and hopefully over time i can learn the technical side of things as i go along so there may be a few panic posts posted to find out where i went wrong.
thanks for having me.
B.

This was one of the first photographs I took with my new k-r, it is my first DSLR. My wife bought me it for Christmas and we went to the Hilton in Ballater for New year, I took this on our first night there and I had been reading an article about how to shoot without using a flash, I went for a walk around the hotel complex and spotted this scene, I turned off the flash and cranked up the ISO to 12800 and this was the result.
