Although it's very simplistic, I thought this lone, sun-lit flower presented a very pleasant scene. I've learned to love this lens. So versatile, it's almost like magic. It will shoot very sharp 1:2 macro from 3 feet away..... and in seconds I can shoot photo of elk on a hill 100 yds. away.:D

Well, yes and no, Julie.... I'm my own worst critic, for sure. But, I think that's the only way to learn. We've GOT to be honestly critical of our own work if we ever expect to get better. I'm 77 years old and every time I take out my camera, I still learn something.;)
In the shot in question, if I had stopped down one more measly stop, it would have brought the near and far petal into focus, as well as the lower water drops, and hopefully, it wouldn't have messed up the bokeh. See what I mean? So..... if this opportunity presents itself again, I'll remember.

I too have a rescue dog. The little guy is half blind and mostly deaf. Scared of his own shadow, but we're making great progress. He didn't make a sound for over six months after I got him. Now, he's not afraid to yelp once in a while.

You've had this fella for quite a few years, eh? I've been a member for over 11 years and I seem to remember you posting pics of him all along, right? Good looking dog.

Yeah, Mike.... I wish I would have bracketed this shot. But, I didn't notice the discrepancy until I was back home and editing my day's work. Live and learn.
This was taken with an older manual Vivitar 80-200mm lens made in the 70's. I used it exclusively for the entire day and was quite impressed with it, even when shooting semi-macros. These old $20 lenses are a real bargain in today's high priced world.
Thanks for the comments.

A few years ago, I was in downtown Boise, trying a little street photography. They have a popular alley where they allow local artists to display their artwork. I was busy, trying to get a feel for the scene, composing and focusing and this young lady came walking by, and paused for me to finish my photo. I asked if she would like to be part of it, and she agreed.
I got her email address and sent her a copy.

I've always liked this image, but every time I look at it, I moan over the lack of depth of focus. If I had stopped down another stop or two, it would have improved it a great deal. But, it might have messed with the bokeh. Would'a, should'a, could'a.

Tony, you have the absolute PERFECT DOF on this capture. Perfect. That's very hard to do, as most of us "flower people" know. Bravo, young man.

This is a Ferruginous Hawk, the largest of the broad-winged, buteo hawks. My falconer friend Dave had her for a couple of months, then released her back into the wild. This was one of the most interesting encounters I've ever had. This bird is very large, with a wing spread of about 5 feet and the talons are big and very sharp....and intimidating. Her stare is out of this world. Not really evil, but..... scary to say the least.... and she never took her eyes off me the entire time I was shooting her. This breed of hawk is know for having extremely large leg muscles, which are hidden by the full feathers all the way to the toes. Dave said that their talons will actually pierce an entire rabbit's body, and actually touch each other during their very forceful grip.
I didn't get to see him actually "work" her, with live bait, where she is out on her own and returns to a lure Dave swings in the air. When she returns, he tosses a live Starling into the air.... and then the the real fireworks happen! I've seen it before, and it's one heck of a thing to witness, real time. She comes in at an incredible speed and snatches the Starling out of the air in a heart beat. Then, she takes it to the ground about 100 yds. away, and immediately clips the back of the neck, killing the little bird instantly. Then she will feed.
This is such an amazing sport that takes a lot of patience and a certain feel for nature that is really something to witness.;)

One of my friend, Dave's birds. I got to watch him work her one afternoon. My first experience, and it was totally amazing. He has long since released her into the wild. He also once had a beautiful, large Ferruginous hawk. He also has a large, one-winged barn owl named Angus he's had for over 7 years.

A very nice shot, showing off some very interesting architecture. Do you think that's what they mean when they say, "Pentax colors"? By the way, I got my DNA results back from Ancestry.com last week, and I'm 42% Scotch, 19% Irish. Wish I had time to visit my ancestor's land. Your pictures will help me understand what I missed. Thanks.

I've only tried photographing hummingbirds a couple of times, but never had anything closely related to these. They are outstanding. The lens did it's job, for sure. I love mine.
