Nature Like shooting fish in a barrel

I set the camera settings at 1/25 sec-100 ISO at f/9 to get some light on the background. The flash from 6ft. away is what makes the shot. If you celebrate 4th of July have a great one for you and your family.--charliezap.

Night La Caravana Nocturna (night photo with light painting)

La Caravana Nocturna

~~~~~
This so makes me want to do some night camping underneath the starry skies. Friends, fun, stories, tacos and beer. I illuminated the vintage camper and rusty Ford vehicle with warm white light from a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 light during the long exposure. Light painting to illuminate subjects is a beautiful, addictive art, as you can walk around the scene, deciding what to bring to light and what to keep in shadow. Photographed before a night photography workshop that we taught in the Nevada desert.
A few days ago we took our first walk on a nature trail recently completed in Conway to see what might be along the Stone Dam Creek. Here are a few shots from that first walk down the trail.
Can't make a trip to Dogtown Lake without shots of the osprey. They were mainly active early in the morning before it was light enough to get good shots. The wind was kicking up early and they weren't fishing as much then, just perching.
Motion blur has ruined many wildlife images. If you're a wildlife photography beginner, bump up that shutter speed! Trust me, I'm posting on the internet so I'm an expert.
Nature For Mike-N-Ark: A Snake In The Water
Finally found a snake to photograph.
Mike shoots lots of snakes in the water; this is the first for me.
(Yuck! I don't like snakes!) :eek:
I was on a short hike with my grand-daughter, crossing over a small creek, looking straight down into the water, when she said, "Hey! Look! There's a snake in the creek!"
It took me five coaches and corrections from her before I could finally see it--right there in front of my eyes!!!
Very visible, but for some reason I couldn't see the thing! Maybe it looked like a crack in the rocks--or a shadow???
Maybe a psychological effect?!
I'll coin the term, "Psychological Loathsome Avoidance Syndrome!" :lol:
Angky
PS: I think it might be a garter snake?
(Definitely NOT a rattlesnake--I know those beasts well!!!) :mad:
Nature Red-Headed Woodpeckers
Recently, my wife and I discovered a new nature trail in Conway, the Stone Dam Creek Trail. This trail runs along this creek beside open fields, wooded areas and behind housing. There is a dead wooded area in one part and, to our delight, it was inhabited by Red-Headed Woodpeckers. It had been so long since we had seen this bird, we had almost forgot how beautiful it is. Images are all cropped. Next trip I will take a longer lens. Enjoy.
Nature Why the flash?
I'm often asked why I take many of my Ruby Throated Hummingbirds pics with a flash. My feeders most of the time are in the shade and the lighting is not that good. What I do is set the camera so that the back ground has some light to it as in the last photo. A typical setting is 1/125 sec f/9 at 200 ISO. The set up is only 6ft. from the feeders and with the flash at 1/8 power its duration is around 1/4000 sec which is enough to stop wing movement most of the time. My 55-300mm lens is set at around 120mm or so and that gives me a greater depth of field (good focus area). The low ISO (film speed) is conducive to a sharper image quality and it stays pretty good when cropped.. Feel free to ask if you have some questions.--charliezap
winning shot at the West Virginia strawberry festival. all the prizes were awarded by visitors to the gallery voting. all the photos displayed were Juried in, this was the top prize, shot with the K-1 and the DFA 150-450. the shirt was no accident this is going to be sent to several West Virginia newspapers so i figured why not a little PR for Pentax. i keep thinking if Pentax would even have a social media presence sales would go way up. BTW the tech is on the photo on the wall not this shot it was taken with a phone for release.
