The screwed generation?

To those who refer to themselves as the "Screwed Generation", I would suggest a name change to the "Cry Baby Generation". Every generation has had it's share of trouble, what distinguishes one from the other is how they dealt with that trouble. You want to talk about a screwed generation, take a look at those who were in their 50's and 60's when the depression hit. I not only see, but hear from many others that the current generation should be labeled the "Me Generation" because many of them expect everything to be handed to them without any sacrifice on their part. I may be an old curmudgeon, but I can remember talk as far back as the early 70's of concern for Social Security's solvency, and I can remember Walter Reuther trying to get people interested in a national health care in the 60's. The funny thing about the health care thing was GM, Ford and Chrysler fought against it tooth and nail until their legacy health care costs for retirees became an albatross around their collective necks, at which point they changed their tune.

The kid was a five year old...I wouldn't be going into the depth you did re; atheism, Christianity, etc.

BTW...I don't believe in organized religion and I think religion should be separate from state affairs.

It has no reflection on the system at all. This is the actions of a lone drug addict who abused his responsibility. Even if he was a sick person stealing medication, the ends don't justify the means in a civil world. There is no defense for what he did, and nobody to blame but him.

Nature Coyotes now in our region ! Eeeeek!

Great captures! I love coyotes. I used to live in the Uxbridge, Ontario area where they organized coyote hunts, blaming the animals for livestock deaths. Our local Ministry guys tried to convince the farmers that In most cases it is coy-dog and domestic dogs wrecking havoc, and my experience was the neighbours mutt that took out all my rabbits and one lamb.

But, I would go walking thru the fields and find dead coyotes left to rot where they were shot. A very misunderstood and maligned species.

thank you for posting these lovely shots!

Well, I can't speak for everyone but some of the local robbers and gang members sure seem to get a real kick out of having and using them. Personally I think it's a bit like archery or fencing. Most legal gun owners aren't into it to shoot people. It can be fun to shoot at a target though, but I generally prefer mine not be living, thanks. But yeah, I used to love to shoot. I own a bow and a crossbow (and a whip, knives, and even a stage sword) and they're all just as deadly as a gun in the right hands. Wanna ban those too? You might have a bigger problem there. They sell them all over the country at period faires and the like.

I'm still in the process of learning to use a pistol. My bro is teaching me. I'm almost ready for one of my own he says. He and my Dad are buying me my first gun shortly. Honestly they never thought they'd ever have to go there, but time changes, and they decided that with my one roommate moving out and taking his with that we needed more protection in the house than just my bows, knives et all. I tried to explain to them that my crossbow wasn't a toy but that's the men in my family. If the weapon isn't a gun they don't think it's lethal enough. I kind of agree. Takes me too long to reload the crossbow. If we were ever home invaded it probably wouldn't be enough to get the job done. Pistol is a lot more effective when you're talking several invaders. Lest you think I have no need of one? There was one here recently and it was only 8 blocks from my house. They beat up and old man and his wife, for fun, and took their electronics.

I'd really not want to shoot anyone, but if someone bursts in intending to do that here? Threatens us? My roommate and I are pumping them full of lead. No questions asked. I'm not into getting beaten, robbed, or raped, just to defend an ideal. I still look at a gun in my hand and grimace. But you know I think I'm getting used to the idea. Every crime that occurs here just makes me realize how crazy this place is and unfortunately how necessary it is for us to be that prepared. It's ugly but it's also reality.

Just remember that U.S. "fired first" against Iran

To add a little more historical perspective.

The widespread Iranian dislike for the US (and the UK) goes back in a major part to the unseating of the democratically elected Mosaddeq government by the US and British secret services, and the subsequent US backing of the increasingly represive regieme of the essentially weak and increasingly hated Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (aka the Shah of Iran). It doesn't work to set the formation of the Iranian Republic as some kind of year zero: things happened to get to that position.

The statement that "The only reason the (sic) set them free when Reagan took office was their fear he would retaliate" is based on either ignorance or predudice. There was a negotiated treaty in place in which, among other things, the US transferred 50 tonnes of gold to Iran, effectively disregarding its own sanctions. The Iranians are thought to have delayed the release to punish the Carter administration for its support of the Shah, although the idea that a Republican administration would have behaved differently stretches credibility. There is also the widespread, and previously mentioned, belief that the Republicans interfered with the negotiations to their own end.

At the end of the day its likely that most Iranians, although supporting the fall of the Shah, did not expect, or want, the equally repressive medievalist theocracy that resulted. Beware the 'law' of unintended consequnces...

Tell that to the relatives of people who were killed by criminals, or to someone who was savagely attacked by criminals, someone being raped or for that matter, the bear charging through your tent.

Exactly! So why are you and several of your fellow Canadians trying to change ours, not only in this discussion but several others on this board?

Clap Clap Clap

Another Needless Death

Outrage Builds

For that matter, why is the UN insisting we sign their Arms Trade Treaty, which will impact our second amendment? Don't try to hide behind the "I am not either for or against gun laws in the US" facade. So far, the only posts you have made can only be construed as coming from an anti gunner point of view, or as someone who wishes to change US gun laws.

This has already been started as a thread can we do without double posting. As to the post Katerina response this has also been commented on numerous times already as well. As a republican I resent the implication that he intentionally let people die, should he have nationalized the guard and police and taken over the situation yes he should have but it would have violated states rights issues so he couldn't and decided not to.

Keep an eye on the chicks! Watch out for predators! :(

Yes, I look in over at DPR once in a while, I don't post, I was banned for life several years ago...mostly because of Otis. It was claimed he crashed their website and destroyed years of archives....ridiculous! Everyone knows Otis is not like that! ;)

It is a shame the way people are on DPR, the Trolls have taken over almost every Forum there. The X10 has been beat to death...however I have noticed the price has actually gone up at many retail sites, and it still sells faster than they can make them...very strange for a camera that is a "piece of junk" according to what you read on the DPR Fuji Forum, isn't it?

Best Regards!:)

Yeah - I don't get the point of this thread.

My iPhone 4 was a decent camera, for a phone. What it was not however was a useful phone or a data transfer device and it went back after just three weeks (think antenna gate).

My HTC Android phone does not produce images of the quality of my iPhone, even though the pixel count is greater. That just proves that there is a lot more to a quality sensor than how many pixels it possesses.

But my Vietnamese DA* lenses produce stunning images mounted on my K-5 - at least in my hands. If you are making better images with an iPhone than with a K-5 I suggest you sell the K-5 and find a new hobby.
