PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Pentax DA 60-250 F4 SDM WR Asking Price
$750.00 USD Item Location
Aurora (United States) Item Description
I have decided to sell my last copy of the infamous 60-250 telephoto.
The good:
-This lens is in very good condition both cosmetically and optically
-The SDM focusing system locks onto the subject quickly and accurately and is very quiet
-Lens is fully tested and working well.
Additional notes:
-Does not have the original Pentax branded front lens cap (It does come with a quality aftermarket cap, front and rear)
-The lens hood has a few scuffs that were difficult to capture in the pictures. However, the lens itself is virtually flawless.
-It comes with the original box (it is a little rough), however what you see in the pictures is what you will receive, no other accessories are included.
-No international shipping

Agreed, I just did a comparison between this and my Takumar 50 1.4 and 55 1.8. this lens blew them away in IQ at wider apertures. Very impressive at f1.4

How many of you have taken your non weather sealed FA Limiteds in weather? Do you find yourself wishing you could, but reaching for a WR lens instead? Rain covers, or other barriers? I'm curious about your experiences.

That's what I was thinking I really want that 2.8 aperture. As it stands I could sell the 60-250 for more than I paid for it, I don't think it can really do anything the Tamron Adaptall cant in a pinch since a big bulky manual lens will suffice for the type of shots I have in mind. The 60-250 is also a fairly valuable lens so selling it would make my pocket book a lot happier than getting rid of the lower end glass.

I bought these locally on Craigslist. A gentleman was liquidating all of his Pentax equipment.
I definitely have a lot to think about. No doubt I should shoot for a while before I decide. Is there a thread on the forums showing off the DA 60-250? I cant find one in the search..
I would keep them all but I feel a little bad having so much money tied up in lenses. Especially if im lusting over different equipment, is the DA 200mm F2.8 a sharper lens than the 60-250? It seems like I could practically trade these two lenses straight across.

Tonight I purchased a:
DA 55mm f1.4
DA 15mm f4 Limited
DA 60mm - 250mm f4
I purchased these lenses as a bundle for an attractive price but im starting to think I should really sell one. The price was attractive but that doesn't mean it was cheap, or that I could afford it by my wife's standards.. Maybe I got a little carried away...
As you help me make this decision, keep in mind that I am mostly into portraits. I have a couple of landscape photo ideas that involve compressing the background, and plenty of other portrait ideas that will benefit from a long focal length....
I am keeping the 55 f1.4, no question. I love feel and look of the lens and the photos I have seen it produce online look wonderful.
Like I said prior, I do have some long focal length portraiture ideas rolling around in my head, which is why I bought the 60-250. However, I'm not exactly happy with the aperature. Not to mention, after viewing Flicker pools for this lens i haven't really seen anything that says "Holy Cow this is a keeper". Not that the pictures are bad, I think the competition for lenses in the 200mm focal range is pretty stiff, maybe i would be happier with a 200mm f2.8 prime...
Now.. The 15mm limited, I guess I only bought it because I wanted to own a limited lens... But frankly, I don't really know what I am going to do with this thing. Currently, it just doesn't really fit into any of my photo ideas. Besides I have a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 that can go wide if I ever really need it..
My current lens inventory besides what I bought tonight is the following:
DA 50mm F1.8
DA 35mm F2.4
Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Tamron Adaptal 60-300 f3.8-5.4 (A beast of a vintage lens, it actually looks alright at mid apertures.. This has been working fine for my long focal length needs...)
Now, an adverse proposal. Maybe I should keep everything I bought tonight and sell some other lenses in my inventory, like the DA 50 f1.8, and both of the Tamrons...
Uhg.. Decisions, decisions..

All my shots are taken with bracketed exposures, however none have been merged into an HDR due to time constraints. I only spent a few moments editing these on the laptop in my hotel room, and only one exposure was used.
Now that I am home maybe I will merge the exposures and edit them again, however, I am less interested in editing and more interested in learning composition. As of right now, composition is something that i really struggle to wrap my head around. I have many more images from this trip, and for all I know some of them could be much stronger compositionally than the ones I posted, thats how lost i am on the topic!

Yes, I already have a 50mm 1.4 7 element. If this isn't the 8 element i will contact the seller to cancel the item as it is not advertised correctly.

I bought this because it seemed like a good price. But now I think maybe the seller had it misrepresented as i see that the red marking is on the left side of the 4, not the right. However it does say A/M and not auto/manual. The glass is also not yellowed, witch is kind of odd no? Is this the 8-element version? I have a credit card that extends the warranty a year after the manufacturer, so I bought the K30 with that. If it is giving me grief ill just send it back to the CC and get a refund.. I'm not going into it thinking it will be a lemon though. Positive attitude! I'm excited to have a new toy to play with.

I'm doing them a favor by making my wants known. Frankly Pentax not licensing to their costumers may have in fact been there demise. Ricoh should be happy customers are sticking around long enough to complain, and it sounds like Recoh is smart enough to listen.

I understand your irritation. My Kr has been giving me grief. In fact on vacation in January I found my self in Tokyo with a locked up camera!. I thought maybe it was the battery so I went all over the city looking for a battery caddie or replacement battery. Found a caddie and it still didn't work!! It would turn on, and then i would click the shutter, the shutter would flip and then the whole camera would lock up. So I went a whole day in Tokyo not being able to take photographs. That night at the hotel I got frustrated with it and tapped against a table top and it has worked fine ever since
I was a little mad at the time, but in hindsight, had that not happened I would have missed out on some awesome electronics stores I wondered into trying to find a battery caddie.

Wow, cant beat that!! Hard to believe that an extra two years is so inexpensive! I wonder if you must purchase it from adorama for the warranty.

Did you read anything about the motor that Pentax shutter system that Pentax replaces it with? Do they fix the problem or just replace it with the same defective stuff? Does anyone know if Pentax offers extended warranties?

I don't disagree. I'd love some limited glass, and now I can finally afford some. But investing thousands of dollars In primo FF glass from a company that won't show me a FF camera makes no sense to me.
The way I see it, I'm ready to make a big investment. But it will not be in an APSC system, and it won't be with a company who's FF plans are only a dream shrouded in mystery. Not when so many other manufactures have me covered. That's just how I see it... As a consumer I feel like there's nothing wrong with buying what I want. People put a lot of time and energy on this forum telling others why they don't need FF. When in reality it's a moot point. We don't need a lot of things, photography as a hobby is all about wants, not needs...

After everything I have said your advice is to invest in an EVF, APSC system and APSC lenses?? HaHaHa!!!!
Yes my system has little value, I'm only at a point now (graduated from school w/ a decent job) that I can afford to invest real money into a system. With that said, I can't fathom why I would get an xt-1... If I'm going to sell everything, take a small loss, and re-invest why would it be into something I do not want???
And I didn't say I wanted FF for the IQ... I have seen plenty of crap photos taken with limited glass and full frame cameras alike. It's the perspective I want to explore, I'll post some picture and try to describe it better later when I have more time.
Camera value degradation isn't linear, they hold they're value the best when they have bottomed out in price actually. I figure my loss on a k-30 would be about $100 if I buy a new one now and sell in September (I can't say the same about an XT-1). The k-30 is nothing more than a cheap way to get me by until pentax makes a move. Who knows, if pentax does something really special maybe it will make all FF pricing more competitive.

I know I know, I didn't really give any details. I was really just venting, getting everything off my chest. I didn't expect the thread to become so heated. My main interests are street photography and landscapes, though im not claiming to be good at either lol
My lens collection:
SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7
SMC Pentax-M 28mm F2.8
Super Takumar 50mm F1.4
Super Takumar 55mm F1.8
SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8
SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL
Tamron AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR LD Aspherical IF SP
I only consider to really be invested in the last three. They are the only ones I would sell if I went to a new system. My legacy glass all transfer fairly easily onto other systems. Frankly, my lens collection is one of my biggest motivations to go full frame.
All that said, I think I have made a decision for now.. It's going to sound random but im leaning toward a K-30. I cant rent systems through the summer until September, the K-30 is cheap, the price seems like it is close to bottoming out on the new market. I'll put the money saved in a "new system piggy bank". The K-30 has the features I need as a modest enthusiast. It will get me through the summer. But come September im making a move to FF (yea even though I don't really need to, its my money and my hobby darn it!), whether I stay with Pentax or switch systems is in Ricoh's hands.
