Filthy sensor

I have thought about this dilemma, and I have not had to use my rocket blower on my sensor yet, just lenses and such. But if you are sucking up ambient air full of dust and particles, then shooting that at your sensor, that does not sound like a good thing.

So how does one "filter" their rocket blower?

Do they make filter attachments?

Should I cover the intake air hole with cheesecloth or something?

Curious minds want to know.

Any recommendations on where to send this lens for evaluation for possible cleaning and reconditioning.

Also what does bad lens coating look like?
I've seen pictures of lens fungus but can not find any examples of bad coating.

I have this lens, Sigma Zoom Delta II 70-250mm f/3.5-4.5 made in Japan, from my K1000 days and just recently got it out to consider using it on my K10D.
Anyway I have found very little reference to it on the Internet, and no reference to it at all here on the forum, but have a few questions.
First of all in visually checking out the lens I notice that the front lens appears to have maybe some coating issues in that there is a somewhat off color circular pattern that has some jagged edges so not forming a true circular shape. If you get what I mean. I don't think it is fungus as the lens is not cloudy.
The other thing I noted was that the lens when held by the base will extend on it's on when held vertically, and of coarse retract on it's on when inverted vertically.
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this lens, and could speak to it's relative quality for use on a DSLR. And if anyone would recommend that I send it some place for possible cleaning or reconditioning.
Or does it's current value preclude spending any money on it.

Thanks,
Drake

Owen,
Those are incredible finds, thank you so much for sharing them with us.
I don't have either the ist DL or K20D but thoroughly enjoy the technical drawings and have saved both for possible future reference.
You have a very good friend at Pentax.
Not to be greedy but after the K200D maybe you could get the K10D.
I know it may share quite a bit with the K20D, but it would be nice to have information specific to my camera, should it be needed some day.
Maybe you can tell them you have an independent camera repair business...
And if you took your ist DL apart, replaced parts, put it back together and weather sealed it, and it worked. Well maybe you have a backup career in camera repair.

Thanks again,
Drake

Another Introduction so I can keep learning...

Well let me introduce myself.
I'm new to dslr cameras after shooting digital p&s for about 5 years, and film p&s and slr forever before that.
I ended up with a K10D that I purchased 12/07 after shopping primarily canon and nikon. I own a K1000 but don't have enough glass to have made Pentax the preferred choice. The deciding factor for me was first and foremost how the camera felt in my hand. My shooting style is mostly hand held, and to hold the camera when not shooting, so the feel of the camera was very important to me. The next most important factor for me was image stabilization, and I gave more emphasis to in-body versus in-lenses. And of coarse value for the dollar always factors in, so Pentax won my business with the K10D.
I have no regrets with the K10 or Pentax, and as a casual photographer I have so much to learn about my camera and photography. That is what brought me to sites like PentaxForums.com and it is now the only site I still read on a regular basis.
So excuse me if I don't post at regular intervals, but once I learn enough to contribute, I will offer what I can. In the mean time I will continue to read and learn.

And thanks to all those who provide this site and those who contribute so I can learn.
There is so much to learn…
