I bought a linx 7 windows tablet from amazon around £50 pleased to say it runs PK tether. works fine with a 5 metre usb cable, I am hoping to set the camera up
(KX)
by the bird table and trigger it from the kitchen, the screen is quite small and its a bit hard to see so a 10 inch one might be better for some but I want portability.

I did a lot of research before I bought a DSLR I went for Pentax I liked the availability of all the old lenses and the in camera anti shake. if you buy Nikon or Canon you have to pay more for every lens to have that feature. .I think Pentax is probably a more cost effective system. People may argue that Canon and Nikon give better results, is it worth all that extra money , not for me. I think the gear is less important than the imagination of the photographer, I am happy to be different
I should get a T shirt printed saying. I didn't pay thousands for L glass .

I was running pk tether on a atom based netbook with windows xp I no longer have the netbook . will a 7 or 10" windows tablet run pk tether ?
I could carry that around with the camera gear quite easily., I assume the quad core tablets are more powerful than my old netbook.can you get the software on to the tablet.? thank you in advance
happy new year

I have a problem getting focus confirmation (green hexagon) on my KX with a samyang 500 mirror lens .
I would like to photograph wildlife preferable with catch in focus.
I have no problem with focus confirmation or catch in focus with my other lenses.
I focus slowly through the focus point but rarely does the camera beep, I like to use the beep as the camera is better at deciding where focus is than my eyesight, and catch in focus does not fire until focus confirmation is made.
I know this lens does not get great reviews but I was not expecting this problem.
I only have a vague understanding of how the camera detects the focus point.
Is there anything I can do to assist the camera to get focus?
thank you Steve

Thank you to everyone who replied I won't reply individually but try to answer all in one go
I have set my diopte all the way to one side, I think I would like it to go further than it can.to get the image perfectly clear.
I do not know why but I prefer the view finder I find it even harder to tell when focus is achieved using the screen .Although most of my pictures look to me like they are in focus on my computer monitor
I will trust the focus beep, and the catch in focus.
I have never tried contact lenses so I think a trip to the optician is a good idea, to see how they works out. Thank you again Steve

I wear glasses, my optician tells me my short sight and long sight have degraded, but I do not wear them when using my camera. When I focus on something, using one of my manual lenses I rely on the focus icon and beep to tell me focus is achieved. To my eyes focus is at a different position to that the camera a KX decides it is.
how reliable is the camera at focusing? does anyone else notice this.
I have no idea how the camera works out the focus point, does it use the same system for the auto lenses and catch in focus?
Any help on this much appreciated.
Thank you Steve

Thank you for all your replies,
Sounds like the F 35-70 is going to be even more useful than the A 35-70 that I recently bought.. And I should be able to convince my wife to use it instead of the kit lens. At least for some shots.
considering the low price the F 35-70 usually sells for on ebay I will try and win the next one that comes up.the A 35-70 only cost me £35 and I have seen the F go for only a little bit more seems like a really good price for the score it achieves. most lenses that score highly on the review database command much higher prices.

I have recently bought a pentax-A 35-70 f3.5-4.5 lens,
so far I like it,but not had much time to test it yet.
.I share a KX camera with my wife but she prefers auto focus lenses,And so mostly uses the 18-55 kit lens how does the
pentax-F 35-70 f3.5-4.5 compare optically to the pentax-A I can see no differences on the lens review data base except the auto focus and a slightly lower score .
Ant thoughts would be most appreciated.

If this has been explained before sorry I have not seen it please give me a link Thank you
The question I have two lenses a kit lens with a 52mm diameter front lens and a FA100-300 with a 58 mm front lens.
They can both be set to f22 but would that aperture be the same diameter for both, or has it a relationship to the diameter of the front lens?
Thank you hope that makes sense Steve

In this age of electronics why do we have a mechanical shutter? surely the sensor could be turned on and off electronically.
Just a thought.

I like the tight crop brings out all the detail of the flower, yes it is just a sunflower but unashamedly bold . love it for what it is.

This was done in the garden almost an accidental shot with extension tubes I did not take a note of the f or shutter speed. On my monitor this zooms up to show a lot of detail . but what is the cause of the grainy background is it over magnification poor lens or just blur due to dof
thank you I know its not a great shot but trying to learn how to get better

I bought a tokina lens from ebay the sellar insists it is a k mount but it does not fit my K-X, have I gone mad is there any other type of mount or is he just mistaken.
quote from the seller
"Hi Steve, thanks for your message. It is definitely a Pentax K mount, as I took the lens directly off one of my own Chinons which has the original PK mount. I know for sure it will fit the original Pentax K and also the equally older KA."
thank you to averyone who reads this.
