I have a S3 camera too. When I set the "T" mode, my camera behaves as you described : I have to turn the dial away from the T position to get the shutter to close.
When in the B position, pressing on the shutter button opens the shutter curtains, releasing the button closes the shutter.

It's nice to improve the low-light AF on the new K5II and K5IIs, but, when I bought the K5, I expected AF to work reliably enough in low light. It does not if the source light has a low temperature (i.e. tungsten light bulbs, sodium street lamps).
I understand that the fix is hardware, not firmware.
Now, rather than buy a new K5II, I'd rather have my K5 upgraded for a reasonable fee.
Can Pentax do that ?
PS: Otherwise, the K5 is already great. I really appreciate the WR and ergonomy.
I can live with the most other limitations (i don't do video).

Thanks Eddie, Jonathan and Kris !
Everyone agrees that the cases are not useful for storage.
Indeed, storing the lenses without the cases will take less space, and, it will be faster to find one to use it.
And, it increases the air flow, thereby reducing the risks of fongus growth.

Those cases are a hindrance when going out to take pictures: too bulky, to clumsy.
But, I thought they were useful to store the lenses.
When I go out, I choose a lens to mount on the camera, and, bring an extra one in a pouch.
The extra rarely gets swapped.
(I was not fully sure, but, I also thought that spores are everywhere and their growth is determined by the conditions).
thanks,
-JF

Thanks for the quick reply, Eddie.
I understand that the dessicant becomes saturated with humidity at some point and it becomes useless (unless it can dry again).
The photography store has large dessicant "bricks". I guess I could put one in the box of lenses and regenerate it (dry it) in the oven every 3 or 6 months, when needed.
The weather here is not too humid (Montreal, Canada). It's actually often quite dry indoor during the cold seasons (November to April).
I don't think dessicant is needed when it dry indoor, or is it?
hmmm... perhaps the old used velvet cases should not be trusted to be free of fongus spores?
i don't want to be too obsessed about storing lenses.
Using them should be a much higher priority!
I have been slowly reading this "Takumar Club" serie. The pictures are amazing :D
I'm at page 144.

"Just one tip. When you store them, keep them out of the cases. You want to make sure that any moisture you get on the lens while using it fully dries out. The cases are great when you are out shooting (I bought a box of them cheap and they do me good service), but at home, keep the lenses out of them.
I bought a mint Super Takumar 28/3.5 (the early version) that looked like it had never been used (and so had been in the case for 45 years). It had some fungus. I cleaned the lens, but it would have been nice if the fungus had not been there."
I got several Taks this year, with cases for them.
Should I store them in the cases or outside ?
Would a bag of dessicant in or out the case help ?
thanks for suggestions or reports,
PS: Those lenses are amazing :)

As Jason 407 wrote, it's easy enough to do.
The Tak 200mm that I got recently did not quite focus at infinity.
It was obvious at f4, but, less so at f8.
The fix was :
1. adjust the focus to infinity
2. loosen the (3) three small screws on the large focusing ring (you need a set those tiny screwdrivers)
3. move the focus ring back, toward infinity, by 1 or 2 mm
4. re-tighten the screws a bit
5. take pictures of subjects at least 1-2 km away, at f/4 (and f/8 for reference)
6. compare images at 100% crop (on computer)
7. repeat, if necessary.
Ideally, it good to have another pics from another lens, to compare.
I was lucky the first time or so it seems, but today is foggy.
On a dry day, i will compare with a K mount SMC 200mm (K series).

Looks fabulous on the picture.
How is the focusing ?
you wrote that it is "stiff"... do you mean really difficult, or less smooth than it should be or normally not too loose ?

hi to everyone,
I got my first Pentax camera in 2010. It's a K7 and i still have it.
(I had been using digital cameras since 2000, and, before that, simple 35mm film cameras).
After the K7, i got an oldish ES-II with the SMC Takumar 35, 55 and 135.
Luckily, I was able to get the genuine Pentax PK adapter for those lenses.
Later, i bought an used (film) KX with a K55 and a K35.
With the older Pentax lenses, I'm mostly interested in using them with digital bodies.
So far, I have shot only 4-5 films with the KX and ES-II.
But, I bought a few Ektar 100 rolls and I will practice manual photography skills with them.
I really like the old Pentax lenses because of the optical quality and excellent built.
Of course, the newer Limited are also excellent.
The reviews that the users write about the lenses on PentaxForum.com are a great resource to learn about the lenses.
When I have more experience, I hope to contribute some reviews too.
i wish happy photography to all,
