Thanks for the suggestions. I do think it may be bumping the buttons as mentioned - I'll try to lock the functions when moving around out in the field.

White balance issue on K3III

On a recent trip to Petra (and other stops) I had a strange set of images. Everything was normal, then the next several images had a purple cast to them. I was able to mostly correct in Lightroom, but not fully. After turning camera off for about 1 hour during lunch, the images returned to normal for the rest of the trip. Then at Christmas the same thing happened, but for a shorter time period. It went back to normal after just a few shots.
Images below show normal and problem from Christmas in Arizona.
I'm shooting auto white balance - In Az I shifted to day light which helped a lot, then back to auto with no issues.
Suggestions?

2 images from our recent trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I like the color contrast of the barn, and the Mabry Mill is the best I could do with the light at the time we were there. Great scenery all around on the trip.

Abstract A few more with the K3iii

We spent a couple of days on Sanibel Island and I got some more practice with my new K3iii. The bird shots were taken with the 60-250 lens at a good distance using the continuous autofocus, and are cropped quite a bit. The insect and the sunset were with the 18-135. I am quite pleased with the overall image quality, and the autofocus works really well. My keeper rate is immense compared to my old K-5. Lots more to learn about the camera itself - it is more complex than the K-5 but will be much more capable when I get used to it.

My keeper rate on the afc is off the charts compared to the k-5 - I used the medium rate for continuous shooting and every shot was useable - some better than others but all OK especially given the 18-135 lens and the distance of the bird.

Just got my k3iii late yesterday. Had to try it out without fully understanding all the settings - much more complex than my k-5!
So far so good. The autofocus in continuous mode worked really well - the vulture in flight is heavily cropped since I only had my 18-135 on, but I would never have gotten this image with the k-5.
I'll post more later after i have read and understood more of the manual.

Out for a hike and saw this Heron attempting to swallow his fish. Looks to be too big - he did not get it down while we were there.

Out for a walk on New Years at the local nature preserve and saw this Anhinga trying to get his catch down the hatch. Watched for at least 15 minutes and he never got it down - the fish looks to be bigger than his gullet would allow.
Must be very frustrating to not get the rewards of your efforts.

I would have liked to have this more centered, but the main alter is in the way and I was pretty sure they did not want me to climb on it.
Even so, I was happy with the results. The Latin inscription starting "Tu Es Petrus" is the translated "You are Peter, and on this rock..."
An impressive building all around - and huge - bigger than you would expect.

The rebuilt Union Pacific Big Boy came within 2 miles of us on the tour of the mid-west, so I waited 45 minutes for 30 seconds of viewing.
The images do not do justice to how massive the locomotive is, but it was a thrill to see and hear it up close.
The images are in reverse order because I liked the close-up best.

Almost a really good photo. Good lighting, exposure, focus, wing position, even a few drops of water from the feet and a hint of wing reflection in the water... but I missed about one inch of the front of the beak. Oh well - keep trying - maybe next time. I added a static shot from just before he took off.

I'm still learning how to get the most from my 60-250 lens and converter, but these shots of birds on our backyard feeders turned out to my satisfaction.

Taken in the Forbidden City in Beijing. I was intrigued by the contrast of the ethnic costume and the modern cell phone.

I'm playing with converting some of my images to black and white. These two in my opinion look better in B+W than the original color version. A fun exdercise.
