Thanks a lot for the answers to everyone,

Yes I have checked the the in depth review from pentaxforum which was very interesting. What I've seen from end users was that the performance increase wasn't that impressive which is always subjective to the person using it.

I guess reading reviews is a good thing but reading too much tend to make you go crazy. I've seen many Nikon user admit that the sigma was indeed almost as good or just as good as their version which seemed to be painful to say. Considering who gave me their opinion I must come to the conclusion that the sigma is indeed an amazing zoom and those who were complaning either probably got a bad copy or may not be able to admit that Sigma did a very high quality zoom for half of the price of their version of it.

Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate your inputs

Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM II vs OS

So I'm in the process of buying my first telezoom. I found it really hard to find which camera body I'd buy 1 month ago and went thru a lot of models from Canon and Nikon to end up with a Pentax. I though that finding the right body was the hardest part. Now I figured how wrong I was. The hardest part is finding the right lens !

I did read many threads about both zooms and many about the tamron too which was my first choice for the overall better IQ but I want this zoom to take pictures of my kids and I don't want to end up with bad pictures because the AF couldn't follow.

So I think It comes down to the sigma 70-200 for the fast AF. From what I understand the OS wouldn't help much for sport so I'm mostly worried about the IQ of the HSM II vs OS. Sigma claims to have increased the IQ when they upgraded to OS version but end users don't seem to agree.

I wanted to get some inputs from users who tried both. I couldn't find any threads about this that actually provided answer. I found some but it was from when the OS version was just released so no one could really answer the questions about the newer version.

My needs are mostly for sports and low (bad lights) situations.

Anyone who tried them both can tell me what is the trade off for taking the HSM II over the OS.

Thanks a lot for your inputs

Lens I'm looking at for my K-5

So I bought my K-5 2 weeks ago and I took the small kit with the 18-55 WR lense which I though would be handy to have for days with bad weather which is something quite usual here in Quebec.

I found out quite quick that I need a zoom now because it's good for portrait and landscape but I'm limited.

I though I'd buy the following lens over the next couple of months and I wanted to know If I'm off with my choice :

1st would be the 55-300 pentax lens. Light zoom that delivery good quality pictures for a very decent price

2nd the SMC Pentax-DA* 55mm F1.4 SDM for better brokeh and shots without having to use the flash. Seems to be an amazing lens for portrait.

3rd the Sigma 70-200 HSM OS version for sports, kids playing and pics inside where the light isn't the best.

I though with these lens I'd be able to cover most needs. I'm still not sure about the sigma. Tamron 70-200 seems to give better IQ but the AF isn't close to the sigma for sports and interior shots so I'm not sure.

Any recommendations on lens I should look for? Maybe other lens that would cost less and provide just as good performances?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome.

I only owned a small compact digital Nikon, the "path" I posted is the camera I looked at before buying a K-5. I just ended up buying the camera that deliver the best photos and will allow me to learn a lot without hitting the limits for the camera.

I just can't wait to have it :)

Hello guys,

I though I'd join the forum since it really helped me to make up my mind on which camera I would be ordering.I've been looking to buy a DSLR camera for a few months. I've been taking many pictures since our baby girl birth and the small Nikon I had for a couple of years really started to piss me off so I decided to get a good camera.

To give you an idea here is how my shopping trend went :

Canon T3I ---> Nikon D90 ---> Nikon D5100 ---> Canon 60D ---> Nikon D7000 ---> Pentax K-5

Now I can't want to receive it and start shooting!
