I have both the DA15 and the DA21. For me DA15 wins because of the color, contrast and the focal length. Optically, I found my DA21 the most mediocre one amongst all my DA and FA limiteds. The focal length for me is very odd, neither wide enough now narrow enough. Instead I use my FA 31 the most. I probably would have used it more had it been around 24mm.

1 sec seems too long for what we are experiencing here. Are you sure you don't have the flash mode changed to something like red eye reduction?

The adobe DNG converter can convert from the camera dng to a dng that aperture can understand. Although aperture does not have k3 specific profiles yet, this workaround works pretty well for me. I posted some images earlier in the thread.

This delay actually seems quite significant. To me it almost seems like half a second. The delay is not between the pre-flash and flash, its between pressing the shutter and the pre-flash. This is making it impossible to do flash photography on the K3. For example, if I want to take a picture of my son, after I press the shutter, he already looks away, before the flash has fired. This is how slow this is.

Just got my new K3 and have the same issue. Both with the onboard flash and my 540 FGZ. Anyone found a solution yet?

What has Auto ISO got to do with high ISO NR? Auto ISO is one of my favorite features. Surely I can leave it on while turning off all NR?

I understand that there are trade offs with zoom vs prime. But for a slow lens that costs an arm, it is.

Yes, I wouldn't actually use the 35-40mm for portraits. I use mostly for photojournalistic use cases. This was a quick grab shot to test for sharpness of the DA 20-40 WO after reading the review.

Here is what my DA 20-40 looks like at 40mm f/4
DA 20-40
100% crop
For comparision, here is a similar one with the DA 35 Ltd
DA 35 Ltd
100% crop
The DA 20-40 isn't bad, but I think my DA 35 and FA 31 are much better than it in terms of sharpness. I do quite like the rendering and the bokeh of the DA 20-40. Perhaps more so than the DA 35. It feels a lot like the FA 31.

Primes lenses make me *think* about photography. With a zoom I might be content with me zooming to find the best focal length from that spot, it makes me lazy. A prime, on the other hand, does not afford me that luxury. That forces me to move to find alternate angles and positions. I generally find that the original position was not that great and that there are superior alternatives. Primes also force me to think about what lens I need for the task at hand. Because changing lenses is such a PITA, I need to choose carefully, helping me to learn a lot more about focal length, perspective and photography in general. Of course, primes are also smaller, lighter and generally have better quality than zooms.

I think it is the weight. Seems as large as the FA31 (if not larger), but much lighter.
