I purchased a Tokina 20-35mm zoom with an aperture ring that works ok with my K-S2 with block. I use the auto mode and set the F at about 5.6. Then I take a photo that has the histogram on preview. I adjust the +/- to get the image I desire. I'm then usually able to take a lot of images without changing much. Here is a Fall Color shoot that I did using this technique and the Tokina lens 09-16-18 Bike ride in search for fall colors - Google Photos
Here is another Fall Color shoot that I did with a Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 zoom using a similar technique. 10-04-18 Fall color Pentax K-S2 Sigma 28-105 mm F2.8 Zoom Lightroom Batch 1 - Google Photos
I became much better at this with practice and now the K-S2 is one of my favorite cameras. The K-1 is sweet too but the K-S2 seems to be a little sharper under some circumstances. I prefer to use the K-S2 with the KAF4 zoom to photograph birds. The pixels are smaller than the K-1. The K-S2 is still a great camera even with the aperture control block.

My K-S2 had aperture control block. The only lens that worked was the KAF4 lens 55-300. I have been using that camera mostly with that lens. I also used lenses with the aperture ring. These usually required some manipulation to get the correct exposure. After over a year using the camera with the aperture control block, today it started working again. No aperture control block. It works with all my lenses just like it used to. I'm not sure what changed. It could have been taking a lot of pictures with my KAF4 lens. Oh happy day.

The photo was taken at the Saguaro National Park in Arizona. The camera has aperture control block but does work with this new lens.

Nice detail in the clouds and you still captured the blue sky.

A nice Fall Day. I love the Pentax K-S2 camera. The images are sharp and it's easy to use. The batteries seem to last unusually long. I am able to get many more pictures even when the battery icon is red. I was able to get about 7k images before it developed the "Aperature Control Block." I still use the camera but with a Tameron AF 28-300mm zoom with an aperature ring. Not as convenient but it still takes good pictures.

My K-S2 recently developed Aperture Shutter block. I am able to get some decent pictures with a Tamron AF 70-300 zoom lens if I keep the aperture ring to the widest aperture which is 5.6 at 300mm. Here is a link to some bird pictures I took in my back yard. Birds 07-29-17 Aperature control block - Google Photos
Mike Cain ---------- Post added 07-29-17 at 11:25 AM ---------- All these pictures were taken in the green "AUTO" mode with auto focus. I also have a Tamron AF 28 to 80mm zoom which will also likely work with aperture ring set at 3.5. I will try this out and post some images.
Mike Cain ---------- Post added 07-29-17 at 11:32 AM ---------- The shutter count is about 6800 when I encountered this problem.

I just started having the identical problem with my K-S2. OK exposures in live view but severely underexposed while looking through the viewfinder. I can get some reasonable exposures with +5 stops. As far as it will go.

No, I enhanced them with Lightroom 5. The screen seems to be "What you see is what you get" and helps you use the manual mode for difficult targets like sunsets.

I recently purchased the GPS unit. It finds the lat. and long. position ok. The compass does not locate north well.

I use Astroart 5 to stack and enhance my images. Many people use deepskystacker with good results. I ahve not used it so I cannot comment on how best to use it. There are probably some settings that need to be adjusted.
Mike Cain
Guys, the pictures with your telescopes are amazing! I want to buy a telescope, but for the momenta i prefer to take a new camera. But I want to ask, when you use telescope do you stack images after after that or there is no need.
Because when i try to stack images with deepskystacker the result astro picture is worst than my best original astro picture
It sounds strange, may be i need more practice with the software, but i want to know how do you made it.
Thanks!
