... Yes, the MF assist of 2x and 4x makes a huge difference...use it ! ...but even with MF assist a long lens of 100mm + can be difficult to focus due to hand shake, so I keep a monopod handy to stabilize the viewed image:hmm:

...I stand corrected, Altopiet was correct, IF you set the K-30 to MF ( on the focus selection switch) and Live View and press the OK button, then you can select 2x, 4x, or 6x image magnification on the Live View Panel...perfect-o !!!
if you leave the K-30 focus selection switch in the AF.S position and press the OK button then you can select a XX increase in the available AF area, or something like that....

...if you have a K-01 you can leave the focus selection switch in either AF or MF and by pressing the OK button you will be able to increase the viewable image by 2x, 4x or 6x by using the command/control wheel ...goodie !

...and I did read a previous post that the K-30 in ViewFinder (SLR) operation will display a Green Focus Confirm Octagon when the lens is in focus, and the shutter release is pressed half way...and that is correct, and, the K-30 viewfinder is so bright and clear you can visually focus a MF lens and confirm correct focus by the display of the Green Octagon with a half way press of the shutter button

to each their own

WHEW ! :eek::eek::eek:

...thanx for the reply, I believe this provides a 2x, 4x, xx increase in the size of the auto focus area on a K-30...the MF Assist on the Q provides a 2x,4x increase of size of the viewed image on the live view screen...thanx:confused:

...interesting, I tried the Canon version and could never get them to trigger the flash... so, someone posted that I needed the Nikon version as the Canon pin configuration did not match Pentax...so I tried the Nikon version and all was well, except for the covering of the upper right hot shoe pin contact...interesting :confused: :confused: :confused:

...well, you may not "have" to ... the RF602 TX has an led that when the trigger is manually pressed half-way the GREEN led lights and a wake up signal is sent to the RX, when the trigger is pressed "full" the led sends a fire signal and the led color changes to red...what I noticed (without the tape on the hot shoe, upper right contact) was that the green LED was flashing randomly, without activation, everything worked fine, it was just the random green led activation that bothered me...so I taped the upper right corner contact of the hot shoe and all was well...you may experience different results :hmm::hmm::hmm:

...the N, Nikon version ...it has the same pin contact pattern as Pentax...you may need to cover the upper right hot-shoe contact with tape (on the K-30), as this contact triggers the wake up signal, or maybe not...:hmm:

...I have been using the Yongnuo YN-560iii which has a built in RF-602/603 receive capability. I tried the 603 TX but had no luck with the K-01 ... the RF-602 TX (for Nikon) however works like a charm...bullet-proof...I do have to place a piece of tape over the upper right hot shoe contact, but that is the only 'gotcha"...the 2.4 ghz capability gives you very extended range and the ability to "leap tall buildings at a single bound" :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

...one other bit of info, apparently, others also noticed the yn-560iii with the RF602/603 RX capability as the 560 was in dire backorder for a few months...that backlog now seems reduced, so I am guessing demand was quite high :fedup:

...ok, ran a quick 602N test with the Olympus OMD EM5...the oly hot shoe does not have the front contact as the k-01 does...so no need to cover any contacts with tape or whatever...again the green LED did not function to provide a wake up call to the YN-560 but it did trigger the flash correctly...the flash can be awoken by pressing the main trigger button on the 602 TX half way, if you desire... ...if not just shoot :lol:

...just finished about 50 test shots firing the K-01 with the RF-602N and triggering three YN-560iii simultaneously...not a single mis-fire on any of the three flashes...perfect-o ! ...also by pushing the main trigger button on the TX half way down, the wake up signal is sent to the flash...even more sweet :) I am more than pleased :lol:

...I spotted the 560iii on ebay a few weeks ago...its claim to fame over the ii was a built in rf-602/603 receive capability...I tried the 603's/K-01 but that combo did not work for ME, but the 602/K-01 did...sweet...plus I think the 560iii is a very good manual flash with a menu system that can be operated without the owners manual...again, your mileage may vary, but I am more than pleased with this combo...I'll continue testing and report any different findings :eek::eek::eek:

...ok, the RF-602 N (Nikon) arrived today...it worked on the K-01 right out of the box, only gotcha was that the wake up (green led on the tx ) was active and flickering all the time...so, I placed a piece of tape inside the K-01 hot shoe covering the front contact (the contact is singular not either of the rear pair) and the flickering went away...so did the the green wake up capability, but when triggered the red led fired and so did the YN-560iii... BTW, the 560iii is the new Yongnuo manual flash that has the built in RF-602/603 receiver...sweet...a word of caution, apparently the RF-603 will not work in this scenario as the data transmitted by the 603 is different than the 602...as usual, your mileage may vary, your configuration may act differently...but mine works...I will continue testing over the next few days...but so far, all is well :cool::cool::cool:

...I am unable to get my RF-602/C's to fire from my K-01...I looked at some of the other threads and it appears that Pentax will indeed fire the RF-602's... so, will they work with a K-01 and a K-30 or am I doing something wrong here ??? thanx:o:o:o

K-30 Live View display in M mode

...thanx for the quick reply...you may be correct...I do a lot of studio shooting with studio lights or strobes, and my preferred method is M Manual with Live View and single handed shooting with a pancake or small prime...I use the K-01, OMD-EM5 and A65's for this and all works well but there are menu selections to keep the M lcd image from reflecting the ambient light based on the exposure settings that the camera is seeing...I suppose it could be that the K-30 is simply a different animal in comparison to a true "mirrorless" camera ...but I'll still find lots of other uses for the K-30 as it will be a far more convenient shooting experience in the great outdoors with the glass viewfinder...
