Okay, I was leaning more towards early 80s regardless. I was looking more closely at the lens today, and found out it has a filter that says "PENTAX 49 SKYLIGHT" "JAPAN" on it. So that was a nice surprise.

Thanks, Cliff! I actually added all that information, including the serial number to that database. I was a bit confused by it, though. So far, I've been able to place a tentative year on it. I'm thinking it was originally sold sometime in the late 70s-early 80s.

Hey everybody, my name is Jessica. I came across this site earlier today trying to find out what year my Pentax K1000 is from.
I bought it earlier this year, and since then I've picked up the basics in a college photography course. It wasn't as much fun as it sounds. But it definitely taught me some technical aspects of cameras.
What I was wondering, is if anybody that reads this knows anything about the history of the K1000. Maybe you could help me figure out when mine is from based on the information I posted onto the serial number listing: Model:K1000 Color of faux leather: Black Location of serial number: Bottom plate stamped Manufactured/assembled in: Hong Kong Focusing screen:Not sure, looks like split screen image, but without the actual line Location of manufacturing/assembling information:Bottom plate sticker Asahi Optical logo on prism housing:Yes Asahi name above Pentax name on prism housing: Yes Asahi Opt. Co. engraved on back side of top cover: Yes "Bump" on top plate near rewind crank: No Top plate: Metal Bottom plate: Metal Battery cover: Threads Weight (without batteries and body cap): Unknown Year of original purchase: Unknown
Thanks for reading! and hello, again. :)
