I was wrong. Problem is back.
It manifests on longer heavier lenses but also seems to manifest every now and then on short lenses. My k3 ii seems to have the problem also.

Already done that.
I’ve also cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. I never had this issue with my k5 and I never cleaned it.

I use a k3 iii plus a grip so there are two batteries. I can't imagine that a battery is the issue since two fully charged batteries should provide plenty of juice.
This is helpful. Thanks! Would you mind taking a look at this video to help me diagnose? I captured this one cold evening while out photographing football. https://www.dropbox.com/s/o7fge6rgpiy0za3/IMG_3715.MOV?dl=0 |

Well, I appreciate the thoughts on this. I'll need to investigate further to see why I keep having issues. Thanks for the help!

How often are y'all cleaning the lens/camera contacts? I feel like Im cleaning them a whole lot more these days than I ever cleaned them! My K-3iii has been giving me intermittent lens/body communication trouble almost since day one. My k3ii gave me a little trouble. My k5 NEVER gave me trouble.

I did give that the focus adjustment a shot and I do not think it worked. When the focus is regularly off its hard to know when a focus adjustment did the trick. I can focus on the same subject and take a photo and do this multiple times (same subject and exact same focus point) and half the photos will be out of focus while the other half will be in focus. So im not sure what to think or even how to properly approach diagnosing and fixing.

I'm curious if you have had any focus issues with this lens. My copy seems to be consistently off just a hair with it's focus... enough to make me question. I have the DFA* 50mm and its amazing. So when I see a focus miss, I can tell something isn't quite right. Do you have any thoughts?

Thanks kypfer. What you are saying then is that "button lock," once activated in one user mode (U5), carries over into other user modes (i.e. U1-U4)... and this is normal?

A nice feature of the k3 iii is that it has a button lock which can be activated with a simple "press & hold -> rotate rear E-Dial -> release." This helps prevent accidental changes to other settings, particularly exposure settings. However, I noticed when the lock was engaged when on one User setting (U5) it carried over and continued to be engaged when I switched to other user settings (U1-U4). It took me a little while to figure this out. Is this normal behavior?

I wanted to say thank you for recommending Advance Camera Repair for my lens issue! They fixed it with no problem, even what Ricoh/Pentax Japan said no! Wahoo! Have a great weekend.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
smc Pentax FA* 80-200 f2.8 IF ED Asking Price
1,000.00 USD Item Location
Washington (United States) Item Description
This is the beautifully historic lens. I purchased it about 2 years ago from a forum member who lived in Sweden. He was amazing and very helpful. I have gotten some awesome photos with it over the years and can share some samples if desired. I’m selling it for less than what I bought it at simply because of continued use and age. I honestly don't want to get rid of it cause I love it but since I recently purchased the new D FA* 70-200, it's time for this one to go to a new home!
The lens creates beautiful FA style photos. Cosmetically it’s in very good shape for a 20 year old lens and there are no glass issues like scratches, oil marks, fungus, haze, etc. The aperture works great and is clean. In addition, the power zoom works… a nice added feature.
The sale of the lens includes…
1. Front and rear lens caps
2. original carrying case in excellent condition
3. Lens Hood
Worth Noting:
1. Dust: a few dust specs on inner elements. All lenses this old have it!
2. Lens had a slight infinity focus problem which was recently fixed! The issue was a few loose screws inside. Everything now works great!
Finally, I can provide additional extra photos if needed. I have a few close-ups of the very minor scuffs that are on the body of the lens and the hood but I didn't add them because I figured the 10 I uploaded were the most important. Have a great one! Thanks! It's good to know that it is estimating conservatively. But I guess I'd rather a slightly more accurate estimate. I understand the limitations that would require a conservative estimate though. Thanks again!

My K-3ii, on a freshly formatted 32 gb card, will say there are approximately 600 or less images remaining for that card. Why can I shoot and fit almost 1000? I'm cant understand why there is such a difference between the top display count and the actual card count?
I shoot RAW on the first card and have the camera write a medium low quality JPEG to the second card.

I happened to be on the site this morning and saw that the Pixma Pro Printer offer (additional $50 off in the cart) was still live in the Pentax Forums site advertisements. I grabbed a screenshot which shows the date as today and the time as this morning. I attached it to this thread. This effectively brings the TOTAL Instant and Mail In rebates to $300. When I tried to purchase the printer through BH, the cart did not reflect the additional $50. Will you still honor this for me since I saw it advertised this morning and have proof? Thanks.

It seems that the facility in Japan no longer services this model. Or, at least that is most consistent with what I was told. But did they really need to send it to Japan to get that answer? They couldn't have received that answer over the phone?
Also, do any of you know of any other Pentax repair specialists?

I recently received word from Precision Camera Repair that my FA* 80-200 f2.8 cannot be repaired! It seems that the lens made it all the way to Japan for repair and they said "lens is no longer serviceable." It doesn't auto focus properly. Any ideas on what I should do? It seems as though I am finished and that I have a giant paper weight!

Great shot! And it's cool to see another sports Pentax shooter. I shoot local high school sports also up here in Washington and since I'm a pentaxian, that's my trusted gear. I love the new DFA* 70-200! And if there is enough light, the REACH of the 150-450 is awesome for football! Maybe we can start something new in the sports world and in Pentax land as the up and coming underdogs! Hahaha. Good luck and happy shooting.
