Howdy folks;
I had my K3ii out in the rain for a couple hours last winter.
When I got home I dried it off. Then it wouldn't turn off.
Clearly something was up with the power switch.
After several more tries, it finally turned off but wouldn't turn back on.
So I let it sit for a month - I didn't put it in desiccant.
After a month, the power switch began to work properly. All is well.
Ah, but no. Now if I leave a battery in it, it drains out in a day - with the power off.
The easy solution is to not leave a battery in when not in use.
But I'm seriously considering sending it out.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks,
Chuck

It is currently sitting idle with no battery and no SD cards loaded. I'll see what happens in a day or two more.

The camera will not turn on when loaded with a fresh battery.
This condition started with a dead battery, after the camera had sat unused for 2 or 3 weeks. That has never happened before.
Put a fresh batt in and went out shooting. When I got back, it wouldn't turn off. Took the battery out. Put it back in, with power set to off, it started up.
After on/off/on/off with the switch, it finally turned off. Now it won't turn on.
Has anyone encountered this?
I found some threads from 2015 at DP Review where new K3iis were malfunctioning like that, and were replaced. Too late for that.
Thinking about sending it to Precision Camera in Connecticut.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to alternatives to using it as a paperweight?
Thanks,
Chuck

That's exactly why I don't like screw-drive. :lol:

Grokh, do you mean 2 SDM replacements failed?

UncleVanya;
Re "vigorous exercise of the manual focus" I discovered that wake-up method when mine started getting balky. It worked well for a little while, until it went DOA finally. That the method works with a new SDM installed suggests there's another issue that contributes to the SDM malfunction.
Re screw-drive conversion; do I understand correctly that once the lens is converted, it can still access the SDM?
Thanks,
Chuck

Daks,
Re survival data for replacements, good question. I sure would like to know before I make the decision to replace the PLM in mine.

Dave;
I dislike the racket that screw-drive makes. Just bugs me. Given the potential for further unreliability with a new motor, I may just go with the screw-drive conversion. But not without grumbling.
Leaving the auto-focus non-functional is definitely not an option for such a nice piece of kit.

Howdy Pentaxians;
I have an SMC Pentax-DA50-135 ED [IF] SDM lens I bought on MPB.
The focus motor worked for awhile but then finally conked-out.
I'm currently thinking about the 2 options for reviving it.
• Option A: Convert to screw-drive $000.00
• Option B: Replace the faulty SDM motor $450.00 (approx. as I understand it).
Option A is VERY unappealing as I've been working to get away from screw-drive lenses which I dislike very much.
Option B is reasonable because I only paid about $375 for the lens to begin with for a 1k lens.
So here's my question; has anyone done Option B?
Are the new SDM replacement motors more reliable than the originals?
Needless to say, doing the replacement is only worth it if it's an improvement.
Thanks,
Chuck

2 & 7 are the most simple of all of them, but they're all to big and to complicated for my taste/IMHO

Does anybody use Adobe products? Since they've gone to a subscription model, their stuff is a lot more affordable, and it's all very powerful.
I've been using photoshop professionally for about 35 years, but Lightroom is also very good from what I hear.

I traded my K5 for a K3ii because the K5 couldn't use the 55-300 aperture controls.
The K3ii has been a fine upgrade. And I've been using my M42 lenses on it. Fun stuff.

Howdy Folks;
I've attempted to install the DCU software (v.5.9.3) and I get the message "no original software to update".
That suggests that I need to install an earlier version.
If so, which one? And where do I find it?
If not, how do I get it to install?
Background: I'm on a 2016 MacBook Pro, OS Monterey v12.1.
Thanks,
Chuck

Ricoh has been good for Pentax so far.
As far as I know the only Pentax product they've absorbed is the WG tough-cam series, and that was only a re-branding.

Re shutter noise, If I recall correctly the shutter noise of my first DSLR - the K20D, sounded like a car door slamming compared to the K5 and the K3ii with the little "sssnick" those shutters / mirrors make.
