You should be fine using 300 dpi. I agree with Dave, use a blower to clean off any visible dust so you don't scratch the negatives.

Why I'm here... I have a K-7 that I'm still learning to use, having upgraded from a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I have a Pentax ME-Super that I like to use with slide film and some nice old glass which I still haven't had a chance to try on the K-7. I found this forum while researching a lens I was considering on Ebay. I found the information and the user reviews of lenses and cameras extremely helpful so I decided to become a member.
