Katzeye for K 5?

I used a split screen/microprism focusing screen on my K100D for 3 years.
Even if the small viewfinder of APS-C DSLR is darker and smaller than old standard focusing screen on MX body, It was so good I really can't do without it now. Even if light metering can be affected when stopping down on old manual lenses.

I'm seriously thinking to buy another for K5 body.
Maybe Santa Claus this year will have a new small and very light present to bring to my home ... ;-)

3d party AF lens on AF SLR

Thanks for your help.
Must admit I'm a little confused at the moment: I initially thought it was a much simpler ...
Maybe the best thing is to make a check with an AF SLR and verify by person if it works fine with my lenses.

I'll begin searching someone in Italy near my home (Venice) to find a way of checking it by person.
Among my friends I know some Pentax SLR owners, but unfortunately they own old manual focus models or modern DSLR.

If I'll be able to reach any "conclusion", you'll be informed ... of course ;-)

reducing clipping in raw

Is it possible the program means "underexposed" or "out of scale"?
Somethimes I happen to find the blue channel clipped to "0" (zero...) on RAW files taken under artificial (yellow) light.

Using manual focus lens

In my K-100D to try to solve the problem I bought a new focusing screen with microprism and a split screen diagonal in it.
I found it really good for the price (you can find many of then for about 20-30$ ...) in particular if you shoot often wide open.
Bye.

Considering Switching to Pentax

Hi.
I never used 50D before, but used 600d and 5dII many times in the past.
Even if I'm a proud owner of a K-5, I must say that Canon AF is better, in particular about "speed" and number of AF points (as said by other in this same thread).

I use K-5 often with Tamron 70-200 2.8 (really not a speedy lens...) indoor (also theatre and church with really low light). The results are good, great if you use RAW: even underexposing -0,7/-1.3 for avoiding burning of direct artificial lights on face.

Only I find that the IS of the K-5 work better with "shorter" focal lenghts: I happened to see that Canon 70-200 2.8 IS on 5dII reach better result sometimes when used at the max extension (compared with K-5 APSC sensor focal lenght).
Naturally If price is not a problem ...

I must say that I feel a little more confident with Canon FF IS lenses on focal lenght longer than 135/150mm, but take with no doubt my K-5 on shorter ones.
Hope this helps ;-)

Battery Grip Question

This is my experience: the ON-OFF dial on the grip means the status of the grip itself only.
You must set "ON" on the camera body for taking picture even if the grip itself is set to ON.

After having used the grip for a couple of weeks, I never took it off: the camera feels better in my hands even if it's heavier.
The only bad new is that you have to give more attention to the grip shutter button to avoid unvoluntary pics being taken by the camera itself when you walk.

Maybe this last one is a new way to approach photography ... ;-)

Do you have a DSLR with you all the time?

I bring my DSLR with me almost every day.
This doesn't mean I shoot with it every day: but I know that when I feel the urgency to shoot or I need to try "something new" inspired by contingency I can do it.
I think this is really useful to me, in particolar trying to think in "photographic way", if you understand what I say. It's something related to the possibility to compare easily what I "see and feel" in a particular moment with what I'm able to capture with my camera.
This is one of the things that helps me for the best to grow in my photographic experience.

3d party AF lens on AF SLR

I've received a confirmation from an Italian Pentax dealer: it isn't possible have a direct control on F/stop vaue using my 3d party lenses with (for example) Pentax mz-5 SLR.

Maybe this time, for this particular application Canon and Nikon systems have a little (?) advantage . . .

Bye.

3d party AF lens on AF SLR

Ok,
it seem the thing begin to be a little too complex to me. Must admit I'm a little surprised how "simple" and "immediate" was working with my old cameras (MX, LX, ...) and manual focus lenses against these modern ones
Here are the 3d party AF lenses in Pentax mount I'm using with K-5 and K-100:

Sigma 24-70 mm 2.8 EX DG Macro Pentax (year 2011) (no aperture ring on the lens, nor an "A" position)
Tamron 70-200 2.8 Di LD Macro Pentax (year 2011) (no aperture ring on the lens, nor an "A" position)

Here in Italy the official import seller confirmed me (if it needs...) these lenses aren't HSM when used in Pentax mount.
I'd like to use them in AV mode with a Pentax film camera setting the F/stop aperture directly from the body ("thumb wheel" on the back, "select switch" or other): has anybody tried those lenses with any Pentax SLR to check if they work correctly?

Wonderful!
From the manual of the zx-7 it seems you can use the so called "select switch" under the shutter button for setting the aperture value in AV mode!
I'd like to try with one of my lenses to be sure it works fine.
Thank you very much!

I know personally many Pentax owners that use with ease old manual lenses on modern DSLR: and I do it frequently myself too.
But am I the only one in the world that is trying to burn his last Velvia slides using "3rd party modern lenses" on "old camera AF body in AV mode"?

PS: (please answer "no" to the question, or you'll have in your same forum a 40 years old guy overwhelmed with guilt . . . :o )

Hi,
thanks for your time!

Maybe my posting wasn't too clear: sorry.
At the moment I'm looking through some pdf manuals on Pentax AF SLR (for example the MZ-5n ...).
From what I can see it seems you can set the aperture value only setting it manually (and directly) on the lens, not on the body of the camera.
In my mind it means you can use with full functionality only lenses with the aperture ring phisically placed on the lens.

If you use a "modern" lens with no aperture ring (like Sigma 24-70 EX DG or Tamron 70-200 ...) I think you are forced to set it directly by the camera body (as you do with the modern DSLR using the dedicated rolling wheel in the front or on the back of the camera body).

So I'm looking for a Pentax film SLR which can let you work in AV setting the aperture value manually on the camera body, since I can't (or maybe I'm not able to...) do it on the lens.
Hope this can help to understand better.
Thanks anyway: have a nice weekend!

3d party AF lens on AF SLR

Hi.
I'm an happy possessor of an old MX. Recently I passed to digital with a K-5 and bought a couple of AF FF lenses in hope that someday Pentax will produce a digital FF body:

Sigma 24-70 2.8
Tamron 70-200 2.8

After some months of AF with K-5 I feel really less confident in manual focusing with my MX (age? misuse? practice?) even if I still love the camera I began my hobby.
So the question: is there a Pentax film SLR with autofocus that can be used with full functionality with my FF AF third party lenses?
In particular: is there a Pentax camera model that allows working in AV mode freely (and directly!) setting the desired F/stop value?

Thanks in advance!
