Well I don't care much about improved AF, I use old manual lenses with my K5. But if there's really a version without AA that could be interesting... More interesting would be a FF though, but then I might realize that my 30+ years old lenses are no longer up to it... Nonetheless I'd be curious to try.
This being said, I've tried the AF on the K5 and it's not that bad in its category. Of course you wouldn't compare it to pro-AF like Canon 1D but it holds pretty well against competition in its range. Improved AF is always useful but what really matter is: grab the camera and go out taking pictures rather than hoping for/expecting a new, better AF in the next camera ;-)

Thanks, I wasn't aware that third party modules were not available with DXO... I'll check PTLens (I'm using Aperture on Mac so no Lightroom solution).

I recently bought a K-5 to use with my collection of pentax manual lenses. I was wondering whether there is available somewhere a library with DXO profiles for K-5 and manual lenses? I made a few searches but I have been so far unsuccessful :(

These questions whether the crop factor transform the FoV or the FL is not that much relevant. At the end of the day it's roughly the same. However DoF is a more important matter, I did some rough algebra a few years ago (don't have the details just remember the result) on the difference between DoF for a FF and for an APS. There was some approximation there, but I ended up with something like: DoF (APS) ~ DoF (FF) * crop. So say APS was exactly sqrt(2), using a f/2 lens on an APS would result in a similar DoF than a f/2.8... now these things are approximate but that gives some sense...
Now that explains why I am not very warm about micro-4/3... You get a f/2 lens (and pay for it) but your DoF will be closer to a f/4 on FF... sure it's fast but not that shallow...

Hi guys!
I just joined the site after having browsed it quite a bit recently...
Although I'm loaded in Canon gears (the kind that is heavy and white or at least with some red) I had some old and good pentax lenses with a K1000 and MX and I was always tempted to try digital with them... Well it is now done, I just bought a K-5 this week and after trying it just a little I realize that:
- it's super fun to use
- it's really manageable (no longer like these viewfinders that look smaller than keyholes)
- it's not going to be easy, easy... been spoiled by Canon 1D autofocus... going back manual will require some practice
But anyway, I really appreciate this community and especially to read opinions and reviews about manual lens... I still have a few dark points in my collection so I might be out for shopping again (though I just bought 3 lenses from KEH, but you know that: you never have enough).
Cheers
Chris
