Amazing photos. What lens did you use?

Good points! I wasn't thinking entirely of which one was a "winner" for travel photography since "travel" has different meaning for different people. I just found the differences to be interesting. I'll need to post an update after actually going on a trip with the Fuji.
I still prefer to shoot RAW and work on post in LR, but I'm not so keen on capturing "pixel perfect" photos anymore. I mainly shoot now for blogging. So I'd say they're a little more than snap shots.
Man, I wish I had the K1 on my trip. To answer your question on my shooting intention for Iceland, I was serious but the results weren't as serious . — mainly because of my budget gear so I got the best I could out of them. I packed a few lenses and a tripod. It was a pain because we flew with WowAir and they had baggage weight restrictions. That's another story.

I bought a Fujifilm X-E2 "for my wife" as it recently went on sale for $500 as a travel camera. I usually carry my K5 every trip we go, but recently returning from Iceland, packing an entire backpack full of camera gear isn't as appealing anymore.
After playing with the X-E2 for a week, here's a couple of observations coming from a K5 user for the past 4 years. - Coming from a full weather sealed body, the Fuji felt plastic-y (though it's half magnesium). Not as bad as the low end Canons, but it didn't have heft of a K5. Especially the buttons didn't feel solid and felt more hollow.
- Where the hell is the Mode dial? I was confused for awhile then realized the camera automatically decides based on aperture ring on the lens and the shutter speed dial. Say if you set the aperture ring to F2 on the lens with the SS dial in A (auto), then you're now in AV mode. I thought that was pretty creative to save space from having a mode dial.
- Obviously form factor. See photo for size comparison.
- I love the new weather sealed tapered lenses. I guess people buy Fuji if they can't afford a Leica :D
- Photo preview in the EVF after taking a photo is awesome without having to look at the LCD
- I missing having ISO auto update live. On the Fuji I can only see the ISO after half pressing the shutter.
- DR and ISO range is limiting compared to the K5. 256,000 ISO? Sorry, Fuji only goes up to 6,400.
- Auto focus is much faster on the Fuji. Apparently the latest firmware upgrade using the new 35 F2 lens can autofocus in .05 seconds
- Battery life isn't as half as good
- Still testing image quality. Since they both have a 16mp crop censor, quality should be similar.
Note I bought the XE2 based on price and form factor. I wanted the cheapest and smallest body Fuji offered. Also since most censors of their previous line are the same (X-E2, T-10, T1), I didn't want to shell out 50%-100% more for a better body. |

Didn't expect so much more feedback––thanks!
I just press the button, the K5 does most of the work :)

It's been awhile since I posted any pictures on this forum. Thought I'd share some photos from the trip.
Surprisingly my Tammy 17-50 still holds up well!

I suddenly got this issue with my 17-50. It was always smooth before. I wasn't sure if something happened when I dropped my bag this weekend, but now it's acting like how you describe.
Did anyone ever find out a solution?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm starting to believe it's more HSM envy than anything. All of the lenses in my bag are screw drive.
I just grabbed the Sigma 30 1.4 off BH cause it was at a big discount. But I'm pretty sad that ONLY the Pentax mount doesn't have HSM nor a scale ––and It doesn't help that the Sig 50 1.4 has both.
Maybe I'll wait when Sigma offers more than a $50 discount on the 17-50.

I've had the Tamron for a few months now and have gotten some good shots with it. I've been eying the Sigma for awhile and it looks like it's finally under 600.
Pros would be IQ, HSM and a nicer feeling body. I've had the Sigma 17-70 and it felt a lot better built than the Tamron. IMO, the Tamron plastic feels cheap, though it's still better than the kit lens.
Your thoughts?

Wow great find! I've been on the fence on the 35mm for quite awhile.
After taxes came out to $428. Would've been $499 at BH and $550 off Amazon.

Probably not but I'll see how it plays out. My intention isn't to fully capture the entire wedding per se, but to capture the entire trip and experience in Jamaica with my friends.
So with that said, I think the 15 will fit great for getting in everyone into the frame.
Thanks to LBA, I just got a DA35 2.4 as well. Just wanted to try it out for fun.

Thanks everyone for the great input. With my limited budget, I've decided to go with this setup:
Tamron 17-50 2.8 w/ CPL (owned)
DA 15 f4 limited (rented for $70 for two weeks)
F50 1.7 ($200)

Hahaha... yeah maybe a little. I do like bags that don't strike people that I have $2000 dollars worth of gear in my bag. A little subtlety helps.

Dammit... I would've picked up this lens if I hadn't bought one two days ago! And I'm in SF too... bummer.
Good luck!

Has anyone ever tried the Ona camera strap? Their bags look awesome. I was thinking about picking this up but wasn't sure how to apply it to my K5. |

A little off topic here, but it's stuff like this you guys do at PF that makes me happy with my K-5 purchase. If I didn't come across PF during my research, I wouldn't be a Pentax user today.
Also after looking through a few Nikon/Canon forums, you guys do a pretty damn good job.

The wedding is for one of my long time best friends. I don't imagine scrambling with the wedding photographers trying to get every shot so I have some freedom to choose what I shoot.
I haven't finalized the creative direction of the book yet. But I'll have to see with what pictures I end up with. It's a destination wedding so it should fill up nicely with the wedding, trips in Jamaica, prep, downtime, etc.
But come on, how can I pass on an opportunity to take my K-5 to Jamaica?

Luckily I'm not the main photographer. So this'll just be for fun and help them capture some additional memories. I guess this'll be more of getting some of the behind the scene shots the hired guns won't have time to capture. Less pressure for me
I was thinking the 15mm will be more for ceremony shots.

Thx for the input. I liked the 15 for the size, but it's too close to the 17-50. I'm looking at the Sigma 10-20 as well.
