I am not quite sure what my Shutter Speed and Aperture are correct. I used a Pentax Ring Flash AF160FC. I love this flash for everything.
Fanny was a stray. She now eats indoors but goes off somewhere every day.

Hi Steve,
Just to put me out of my misery, can you please let me have the settings so I can copy them, that's the flash (AF-160) the K3, and the lens being a 2.8 100macro. I just need to make at least one successful shot so that I know there's hope.
Thanks, Roger

Thanks for all the replies. Now I'm going to play around with your ideas. By the way I am using a DFA 1:2.8 100 mm macro lens.
I'll get back to you and let you know how I'm getting on.

I have always reckoned I am a proficient photographer from the days of the Asahi Pentax ES11 (70s) up to now, This week I purchased an AF-160FC Ring Flash and it is a sturdy piece of equipment nothing flimsy radiating confidence.
For the life of me I cannot get a recognizable exposure, it's either over exposed or an unsharp image. I started out with fully automatic on the camera and flash, then from then on various combinations with no luck. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction so that I can get at least one decent shot and then play around?

Hi,
After installing Chrome, my Pentax Flucard is working fine so Internet Explorer is not the browser to use.
The problem I am having now my Flucard sessions disconnect after just a few minutes.
I suspect I need to make some adjustment in the Pentax 3 menu, some help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Has anyone had experience with the Pentax Flucard and Microsoft Internet Explorer?
I can use it with my Android mobile, but no luck with my PC.
It is the large screen I want to use.

What would be a suitable lens for architectural photography, let's say churches or high-rise buildings?
Once upon a time I used a view camera where I could adjust the perpendicular and horizontal lines before making an exposure.
Is it the software we have to rely upon nowadays?

Hi I am trouble finding these instructions. "Using Aperture Ring" setting (#21 on the K-7, #27 on the K-5), and set it to 2 (allowed). I am in the Menu and there are various symbols at the top. How many steps to the right do I need to go to find "Using Aperture Ring" setting ? Maybe I am completely off track. Regards |

During the initial setup you connect the card to your local PC network just as though you were connecting a Smart TV etc. using the router's code allocated to you initially.
Afer the setup, the card is withdrawn from the PC and inserted into the camera.
Then take a few shots and within a few seconds the images appear on the screen. The camera has to stay switched on until all the photos are uploaded, but it is very quick even the RAW images.
After that even though the computer is not switched on, out in the field the camera(card) finds a hotspot and uploads the shots to SanDisks server where they stay until the PC is switched on and then
the photos are downloaded to the computer.
As I said extra SanDisk software is needed to do this but the photos are stored at the server.
I hope I've written clearly enough, you do need the Pro X20 for RAW images.
I suggest you visit the SanDisk website where perhaps they can explain it more clearly.
But so far I have not encountered any problems.

Thank you all for replying with your advice, I think it could be the contrast, so I'll carry on practising and see what happens.

Thanks for all of the advice, now I know how to get into RAW at last. This weekend I've been playing around with a SanDisk Eye-Fi Pro X2 8GB+Wi-Wi memory card and I have no complaints, it downloads RAW and JPEGS.
It has geotagging and with SanDisk software (extra cost) the card (camera) uploads images from anywhere.to a server and then downloads to the PC.
Thanks again,

This has been puzzling me for a while, do I just press the RAW button or are there other stages I have to go through? I am considering using my K7 for JPEGS and keepiing my K5 just for RAW.
I will use Lightroom to process the RAW images.
Can I keep in AUTO or do I need to do some manual adjustments to keep in RAW?
Thanks

When using my K5 with a Pentax fixed lense the auto focus works fine.
Using my DA* 50-135 lense, it's haphazard, sometimes it finds the "sweet spot" other times nothing happens.
It's the same when I swap over to my K7.
I have the lense on "auto" and also the camera.
I often find myself just using manual, but I thought auto focus should be simple.
Some help will be appreciated.

My first Pentax was an ES11 I think, (about middle seventies), and I have just grown with the Pentax range. My last traditional cameras are a LX and a 6x7.
At the moment, I am trying to recapture the silver halide days by using RAW in my K-5, and processing in Adobe Lightroom 3 and of course Photoshop CS5.
Strange but I miss the smell of a darkroom, and yes I have survived, although I always used gloves and plenty of ventilation.
Right now, I am trying to figure out how to take control of my K-5 in manual mode, using a light meter so expect a few questions.
That's it for now.
Dobson.
