Just to be clear, the invitation to the press conference on the 23rd says: come and meet the K10D's successor. I don't think we'll see a "completely new" body. That will hopefully come later.
I for one, am totally satisfied that Pentax is taking two excellent products (K10D and K100D) and is making them even better. I would have been disappointed if that had not been the case.
The K2D or whatever pro model can still come later. :)

It's difficult enough to get the journalists off their a... and to a conference press that you wouldn't want to have to repeat the process unnecessarily. ;)

Yes. I look forward to seeing the new toys and what you have prepared. I'm a journalist but also a longtime Pentax user. :)

All I can tell you is that it's the 23rd in Paris. I have the invitation before my eyes. If they changed the date I'll know soon enough.

I got the invitation about three weeks ago. If they got the date wrong you should probably tell the press agency. ;)
Or maybe there are several different events.

Patience. A few more days to wait won't change much. ;)

Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1: 60fps
CES 2008: Casio today announced its EXILIM EX-F1 - a six megapixel camera with 12x zoom and some very impressive burst shooting capabilities. Capturing up to 60 frames per second at full resolution and a staggering 1200 fps if you drop the image size to 336 x 96, this innovative camera will also shoot 1920 x 1080 Full HD movies at 60fps. Helping to ensure the moment isn't missed is a buffer system which continually updates then saves the contents to card when the shutter is released. Illumination is taken care of by a conventional strobe which works at up to 7 fps and a cellphone-style LED for 10-60 fps. The EX-F1 will be available from March 2008 priced at $999.99.

Just as an example, I use my DSLR to do timelapse photography. It's called (and is) photography, but my end "product" is a Hi-Def video file. The camera, whether still or motion, is just a tool serving my artistic purposes.

The press conference in Paris is on the 23rd. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an NDA for the Dubai one. It's common practice to ask journalists to keep their info for a few days. Not too much of a price to pay for a free trip to Dubai. ;) There're bound to be some leaks though.

No one would force you to use the video function. But the video/photo convergence is inevitable. High end pro video cameras are now using 12 Megapixel sensors and some are even made to work with SLR lenses. It just makes sense from a technological point of view. To me these are very interesting times. For some users (dare I say artists) like myself, this creates many interesting new possibilities. Let's not forget also that photos are now more seen on screens than on paper. And screens are made for animation. I'm not saying you should start doing video instead of still photography, I'm just saying there are new possibilities, clearly not fully exploited yet.

Don't forget Pentax was one of the first to offer a hybrid photo/video camera with the Optio MX4. I wouldn't be surprised to see a video function on their DSLR's.
