holy crap.....I may have a good one on my first try. Brick wall tested OK, Need to do the newspaper test again to confirm my suspicions that inconsistant light/angles/ led to a few problems. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I can declare this a victory and really begin enjoying this lens.

Thank you both for the great information. I finally got the lens this evening after playing tag with the UPS man for a few days. With any luck, I'll be able to check it out thoroughly over the weekend. I've got my fingers crossed that it's a good one. If not, I bought it from Amazon, and they are great about returns.

Guessing you're headed to Great New England Air Show I'm thinking of checking it out myself, having never been to an air show. Unfortunately the weather is not looking good for Saturday (the best day for me to attend) . If I make it out Sunday, I'll be on the lookout for a fellow Pentax user with a loooong lens!!

Sorry to beat a dead horse here..... I finally took the plunge and ordered this lens for my K10. I've read some horror stories about bad copies, (and yes, I've used the search function) but I haven't seen a clear explanation on how I can fully test my copy (when it arrives Wednesday) to make sure it's a good one. After spending that kind of $$, I'm much rather take a few hours and fully test the lens, rather than realize I have a problem down the road. I remember reading something about taking shots of a brick wall? Can somebody either explain how to do this, or link to an explanation they are already aware of. Thanks for your help......... jeff

A few years ago, my wife and I started using the Starwood Preferred car from Amex for everything we could (groceries, gas, insurance) instead of cash. We paid our balance off every month and were saving the "points" for a trip (with the Starwood Points, you can get free rooms at Starwood resorts (Sheraton, Westin, etc) when we split up last year, we split the points up (I was actually a little surprised they did this since they were all in my ex's name) When I was camera shopping towards the end of 2008, I was happy to realize I could trade the points in for Amazon credit. I may not be going on any free vacations soon, but i was able to get my k10d for free, and most of my 35-135 DA* with the credit.

I like it!

I see in your sig. that you use a Lowepro Sling 200. How do you like it? I just received mine yesterday.....feels strange, I guess It will take some time to get used to it.

THIS site isn't helping. Just did a search and read more about the grip....... would be nice to be able to put that extra battery I have to good use.....a place for the remote and another memory card. Damnit, I just ordered it from amazon. :o

their clever plot to take my money  I think they are in it with Amazon.

In all seriousness, though, is my thinking correct about the battery grip somewhat "evening" things out? As it is now, my pinkie is off the right side grip when I shoot.

thanks again for all the great replies. Albert, I don't think you can fit anything else in that bag!! Looks like you've got it figured out pretty well. Well, today is my birthday, so I will be ordering one of these bags as a present for myself (and actually today the UPS man will be delivering my DA*50-135, so I guess that's 2 presents) Thanks for all the great input, I really think this bag will make it much easier to go hiking with my camera stuff.

Lowepro Slingshot 100 w/ DA 50-135 attatched

wow........thanks for the great replies. I was more inclined to get the 100, since I didn't want the waist belt (which I believe comes on the 200 and 300). I went out today and tried to find one locally, but with no luck. I went to a Ritz store, and they has almost no bags. The gentleman working there said "we can order any lowepro bag you'd like!!" I said, "thanks, but I can do that from home.":p

The pentax sling bag looks nice, but I like the little rainproof cover built into the lowepro sling bags.

I'm currently in Bristol, CT

My 50-135 arrives on Monday, so I guess I can measure the length of lens and body.

For those of you that own the 200, is that waist strap in the way if you do not use it?

Will the DA 50-135 attatched to the k10 fit in the lowepro slingshot 100? I'd like to keep it small (vs. the slingshot 200 or 300) but want to make sure this camera/lens will fit mounted. thanks for any info.

I've had my k10 for a few months now, and I'm just noticing that the OK button and the 4-way controller button (that surrounds the OK button) on the back of the camera seems a bit loose. It functions properly, there just seems to be an awful lot of "play." How is yours? There's a good chance mine has been this way since I got it, and it's supposed to be like this, but I'm just noticing it now :o
