This lens is so good, that after buying the first, I bought second one. Now I can have one on a film camera and one on a dslr ALL THE TIME:D But what I wanted to say is there seems to be another mechanical problem with the design. One element became loose on othewise mint, almost unused copy and rattled inside. Had to go to a local repair shop, now it is OK. Just warning you this may happen.

Problem with focussing screen

Tried shimming the focussing screen with piecs of tape until both lenses seemed OK. Tested on a 2D target with fine pattern. The inconsistency I wittnesed earlier was probably only in my head:confused: Now it seems both are focussed well using the microprism collar (I found out the split center is to coarse for precise focussing on extreme apertures. You have to look at it directly, not in an angle and still it is not precise enaugh - may that have caused my confusion about difference in focussing both lenses?)
So this thread was really helpful for me! Thanks:)

Thank you for your answers! I was very surprised by what i saw, because I was also thinking that the front/back focus should not be lens dependant. You are probably right that it is due to focussing screen position and that more 'scientific' test are needed. I will update if I found out something new. Thank you all for your time again!

Problem with focussing screen

Hi!
I have a problem that I cannot find an answer for...
I bought a (Chinese) split prism focussing screen, because most of my lenses are MF and for the rest, AF on my old K10D sucks. But I found out, that it is more precise with some lenses and less with other. It is possible? I wanted it mostly for two lenses - a F1.2 Revuenon anf F1.4 Samyang. While the Revuenon is OK - the focussing screen (I use mostly the microprism collar) shows sharpness and I know the image will be correctly focussed. But when using the Samyang, I found out, that the best sharpness is obtained when the microprism collar is slightly defocussed in front of the subject. Isn't that a weird behavior, or is it normal? Or it's all just in my eyes? I would not be very happy if I would have to change focussing screens with changing the lenses, moreover, my two most used ones...
Thanks!

CHEAPEST DSLR for permanent M42 mount

There are many options for a cheap DSLR for mounting M42 lenses, I use a Pentax K10D and it works OK, but if you really want the CHEAPEST solution, I can reccomend you an Olympus E-1. Really, if you are OK with 2x crop factor and 5Mpx, it's a wonderful body with superb handling, IQ and VF. I recently bought one for next to nothing and am amazed what few bucks can buy you:-)
Edit: don't stone me to death for such a blasphemy...

Old Print Film Storage

If you have enough room in a fridge, put it in there. But if it was stored in a room temperature for 15 years, it really does not matter now. Use it as a 50 ASA film (overexpose it), because it might have lost its sensitivity over the years... but the results might still be unpredictable.

LX Mirror foam question

So, I gave it to one local serviceman who claims to repair LXs before... He will check it for other defects as well, so let's see!

Edit: The camera repairer replaced the bumpers and cleaned the camera. So only thing left to do is to make some test pics to see if it works allright!

LX Mirror foam question

Thanks, alexfoto!
I see it is an "at your own risk" procedure... More so on the LX, because the original bumpers are hidden behind a metal plate:-/ They are also not made from single piece of foam, so it willl be more complicated... Anybody knew if there is something like a proper "foam repair kit"?

LX Mirror foam question

Hi!
My "new" film camera, a Pentax LX just arrived. It seems to be in working condition, doesn't suffer from the sticky mirror (yet), but has a different problem - the foam bumpers on the upper side of the mirror chamber are not there! I want to ask you people, if there is any way to replace them myself, and where to get a hold of them? Can I "butcher" them out of any other camera? Or are there any foam "kits" available for the LX? I suppose it is not safe to fire the shutter too many times in this condition...

Upgrading from a K1000

It depends on what are you used to. If you are OK with composing through display only, the K-01 may be option. But if you used the K1000 for so many years, the optical viewfinder might be the way to go:-) I tried my friend's K-r and it is a fine camera.

Cheapest weather resistant K-mount digital camera?

I have a K10D but I am looking forvard to a K30 or a K5. Not that it's a bad camera, I will certainly keep it, but it has some serious issues which may dissapoint you after using the K-x: Low light IQ (max. ISO is 1600 and it's very noisy) and AF (slow and has focussing errors with some lenses). Otherwise it has superb low ISO IQ and feels great in hand. If you can find it cheap, go for it...

Can someone humour a film noob on the current price variations of film SLRs?

I think now is the best time for buying a film SLR. Most of them lost their practical value due to the progress of digital photography but still they are not rare collector's items. You can buy proffesional SLR for a price of digital point and shoot.
As was mentioned earlier, the body affects the photogrphs by metering, speed and comfort of use. The lens and film does the rest.
