Recommendations for Portrait glass?

Maybe get a Pentax A* 85mm f1.4 lens? A fantastic portrait lens and a great all around medium telephoto lens. If you get this lens you’ll probably not want any other 85 mm lens afterwards. It has a classical look and plenty sharp that it doesn’t look overly sharp either

Revuenon 55mm f1.2 Initial Impressions

Hi if you like photographing close ups maybe a 50mm macro lens because you said your new lens doesn`t focus close enough? Ok, I just noticed that you have the 100mm macro lens. I guess you were just testing your new Revuenon 55mm F1.2 lens ? Nice and dreamy creamy effect. Too bad Pentax never made an auto focus 50mm F1.2 lens and for that matter stopped making the Pentax 50mm F1.2 lenses all together.

Are film bodies getting more expensive?

Nothing against the aaarteest per say but my beef is what use to be either free or cost next to nothing is now costing at least $50.00 USD for a once considered a junk camera. I can remember in 1975 saving some hockey card wrappers and I also enjoyed the stick gum that came with the hockey cards too and something like 50 cents I`d gotten a plastic Babbette brand name camera which took 127 film. Back then corner stores did sell 127 and 620 and 120 roll films and I bought myself a roll of verichrome pan 127 film for my plastic camera. Aaaah the nostalgia and good ole days.
Btw I`ve passed by and visited Medicine Hat back in 82 and it was my first experience in stepping on them little cactuses in them fields ouch!

Absolutely Yes! Around 15-20 years ago say a Diana or Holga type film camera was considered junk and you could get them next to nothing in a Salvation Army or flea market but nowadays a complete set with a flash can be atleast around $50.00USD and they are highly sought after nowadays by so called Aaaaarteeest;)

I think it`s a good buy and a good combo both the 35mm flektagon and the 135 mm sonnar. When I went to the store I originally wanted just the 135mm CJZ lens but the store owner said if I buy both lenses he would give me a great price. He said it would be a wonderful kit using just the two lenses and he said it would be a shame to break up the kit because the previous owner brought it in together. At that time I was a 50mm man and I was not really into the 35mm focal length after using the 35mm f2.4 and seeing the results I knew it was a good combo kit . I really liked the close focusing ability of this lens as well. So that is how the story goes weakhead.

Weakhead, I bought my first CZJ 135mm F3.5 brand new in the blue box and I really liked the colors and the way the lens images came out and the back ground blur was much smoother than the Pentax M 135mm F3.5 lens. In a nut shell it has the right amount of everything and was not so sterile bitingley sharp that it looked like an image that was PP sharpened. Anyways opportunity came about 7 years after buying my first one and there was another one being sold at a camera shop used and I eagerly picked that one up with a CZJ 35mm F2.4 Flektagon but this is another story. :)

Hi, nice photos. I especially like your first photo best. I like this CZJ 135 mm F3.5 lens so much that I bought two of them. Though I have not used this lens for quite sometime but I am so happy to have them. In fact I prefer the CZJ 135mm F3.5 over the Pentax M 135mm F3.5 lens. I like its color rendition and optical qualities.

Hi Francis,
I usually use single point auto focus but I hate to say this Pentax auto focus sucks. Slow and not very accurate especially in low contrast situations. Though I miss a lot of shots going manual focus but the shots I do get are usually spot on where I want it to be in focus especially when my lens is wide open say f1.4. I find I get more keepers in auto focus mode using my Canon EOS cameras. You ever wonder why in fast sporting events Canon EOS is a dominate player and even more so than Nikon?

Chinon 55mm 1:1.4 is Zeiss?

Hi Steve,
If I understand you correctly I did not imply that Chinon lenses are rebadged by CZJ. I was saying that the 55mm F1.4 CZJ lens was rebadged when the original poster said both Chinon and CZJ 55mm f1.4 lens share the same platform. Probably Chinon lenses were made by Cosina? I also believe Sigma made some lenses for CZJ as rebadges too?

Yes I have handled and photographed both Chinon and CZJ lenses. I can`t say I have a lot of former east German lenses but they are known for greater batch to batch variations, oily sticky iris, flaking paint off the lens barrel, bubbles in the glass and despite their claimed MC it handles like a single coating Japanese counter part. I have various M42 and PB CZJ lenses. I can confidently say the CZ of west Germany is leagues apart from the former CZJ. Oh yes I do have some knowledge of the history of Zeiss and how they split up during the cold war. The CZJ was heavily subsidized by their government like any communist product and therefore was sold cheaply to the west for hard currency. That 80mm F1.8 Pancolor lens sold new for around $50.00 USD to the western market back in the early 90`s. Too bad you didn`t fetch them up 20 so years ago. The prices of these east German lenses in the last few years have gone crazy up and I guess thanks to the 4/3 system and more lenses mount adapters for more lenses. Also these eastern European lenses have become trendy cult items now especially when production has long ago been stopped.
I love using off beat brand of lenses as well but I have never found any bad 50mm lenses but maybe it is a ymmv thing between us or you had the true misfortune of having a dreadful 50mm lens;)?

Chinon 55mm 1:1.4 is Zeiss?

Hi, There is a difference between Carl Zeiss AG and Carl Zeiss Jena but people often convince themselves otherwise and try to make the former East German Zeiss to be the same level as the former West German Zeiss. It`s hard to go wrong with just about any 50-55mm lens from any lens maker and I`m sure the rebadged CZJ 55mm F1.4 lens will be a top performer. I would rather pay less and get a non rebadged lens than get a CZJ lens.

Hi,
It sounds like you need a lens cleaning service from the fungus on your lens. I would suggest you bring your lens to be cleaned by a specialist. My lens just had a couple of very small lines of mold and it was just starting to grow and the baking it out in the direct sun saved me the trip to the lens doctor. I caught it in time the fungus growth. It's been about 4 years since I treated my zoom lens with the sun UV treatment and there has been no further growth thankfully.

How do you approach a stranger on the street for a photo?

I usually do not ask. Just take your photos and walk away. If you show a "I`m sorry" and a worried look it might make the subject more apprehensive to what you just done. Just walk away and pretend it never happened that photo you took of them and usually it is a trouble free street photo then.

Pentax MZ/ZX recommendation

I like my MZ3 and so much so that I have 3 of them. 2 chrome ones and one black one. Touch wood none has given me any problems and I love them especially because they are so light weight. I have the FG battery pack for them but I rarely use it because I like small camera. I often use the Pentax MZ3 with my 43mm or 40mm M pancake lens. A wonderful small camera set up which is easy to carry around all day with.

I have a Pentax M 75-150 F4.0 zoom lens which had a little bit of fungus growing inside this zoom lens at the rear element. I took off the front and back caps and exposed this zoom lens for a couple of hours or so in direct bright sun light and I have never seen this fungus grow or further develop. I hope this helps out.
