We probably have different Garmins. I have an eTrex 30, and it uses GPS and GLONASS and works really well.
But don't get me wrong, it's not the right tool for geotagging photos. The O-GPS1 does a great job of this, and I highly recommend it. It is just, IMO, not as sensitive a receiver as my Garmin and my experience has been when I have them both on me the Garmin gets a fix quicker and works better in challenging situations like lots of trees / buildings or inside a car.

I've never tested so I can only answer this subjectively. Given enough time, the O-GPS1 seems reasonably accurate, within 10 meters for sure, but if you shoot right after it gets a lock, it can be off by 100 meters or more. It is probably a little less precise than my Garmin or my iPhone, but more importantly, I think it takes a little longer to hone in on my position. I would want to give it at least a couple minutes after its initial lock to be confident in its accuracy.
Given enough time to get a good fix and a decent view of the sky, I would say the O-GPS is definitely consistently accurate to well within 10 meters.

What I meant was the O-GPS1 seems to have a much harder time locking on to a GPS signal than any of my other GPS devices except for my PowerShot S100 which is also a little finicky.

In my case I never activate those features and they were definitely off when I was having the problem with my camera. I might have had them on for a short time at some point in the past and maybe that's what caused my camera to get messed up but they were definitely off when I was trying to diagnose the problem.

I don't see much description of your calibration technique.
I suggest that you shoot at a perfectly flat surface parallel to the film plane to test this kind of thing. Even better, use a LensAlign. You need to be very sure of the point the AF system is locking on to. The K-5 in particular seems to have a real knack for focusing on things you don't expect it to. I have the same lens and my attempts to calibrate it were very inconsistent til I got a LensAlign. I then discovered that the best calibration for it was actually 0, no calibration at all.

I think there are two reasons the K-5 looks worse than the k100 in this test
The main reason the K100D is sharper is because it has much lower resolution on the sensor. The camera shake was always there but a 6 Mp sensor doesn't resolve it as clearly as a 16 Mp sensor does. With modern, high resolution sensors, camera motion has to be managed even more carefully than before to get photos that look crisp at 1:1.
The second reason is that the K-5 likely has a much faster mirror mechanism since it can shoot 7 fps compared to 2.8 for the k100. The faster the mirror moves the more it is going to shake the camera.
At the end of the day, and this was just as true 30 years ago, mirror lockup is there for a reason and even on a good tripod it should be used if maximum sharpness is what you want.

I have an O-GPS1 and have noted a few things about it:
1) It can get weird when the batteries are low. I have had it just go insane and just not work properly on a low battery even though the low battery light wasn't coming on. Was still getting a power light. Putting a fresh battery in made it come to its senses.
2) it's not great when it comes to sensitivity. It needs to have a fairly unobstructed view of the sky to lock on.
3) like all GPS devices, it can take a really long time to get a lock when it hasn't been used in a while as it has to download the almanac from the satellites.

Yeah I never posted a follow up but I found the time to reset my camera and it fixed the problem completely. It also didn't erase my lens focus calibrations settings so it was a lot easier than I expected.

I checked the hotshoe contacts. The ISO setting seems to be the critical thing. This isn't inconvenient enough for me to want to reset the camera right now, I have a lot of settings that aren't default and calibration for a bunch of lenses. Camera's already out of warranty anyway.
But it's useful knowing that it's something particular to my camera. Thanks for checking.

I was just testing this and found some more interesting details.
FWIW, I've been testing with the camera body set to X and M with various shutter speeds under 180. Single shot drive mode. Flash is set to the default leading curtain sync.
What I've found out is it only happens when the flash is in P-TTL or M mode, not when it's in A mode.
It also only happens when the camera is set to an ISO under 800. Everything works perfectly at ISO 800 or higher.
Now I'm really curious if it's just me or everyone.

I'm experiencing an odd problem with my Pentax K-5, firmware 1.13.
When I do a digital preview with my AF-360 FGZ flash mounted and active, the camera sort of hangs. The digital preview flashes on the screen for just a fraction of a second then the screen goes black with just an hourglass in the center. The shutter release and exposure controls still work but the info / menu / OK and most of the other buttons on the back do nothing. The camera will stay in this state indefinitely as far as I can tell if I don't do anything.
If I take a picture or power cycle the camera it recovers.
I rarely use a hotshoe flash, but I know my K-5 didn't used to behave this way. I think it may be related to the 1.13 firmware.
Digital preview works fine if the flash is powered off or not attached.
It's a bit of a hassle when trying to match flash with ambient light.
Has anyone else experienced this?
