The K5iis still has a bayer filter, it does not however have a low-pass or anti-aliasing filter in front of the sensor.

The sensor would be exactly the same as in other models (K5ii?) but with the bayer filter removed - most sensors only 'see' in B&W in any case. As for the rear LCD, again, use a standard one but don't send any colour data to it.
There is no real reason that a K5ii-M could not be built very cheaply with little overhead cost - the most difficult bit would only be rewriting the software.....
Now, whether there is a market for this 'specialist ' camera is another thing - personally I believe there would be enough sales to justify a limited run, sold at a premium to cover additional build and software costs, plus it would certainly grab Pentax some headlines and publicity!

I don't think that this is such a crazy idea - most of the monochrome cameras components would be the same, apart from the Bayer filter, most of the differences would be in software.
Indeed, like Leica, Pentax could sell the mono camera for a premium and make a tidy profit.
It might even tempt some to buy two bodies.....

What about taking a leaf out of Leica's book and simply call the next top of the range camera (FF?) the "Pentax K"?

Difficult one this - how can you compete with someone who offers a service for free?
That's why the professional photographer is a dying breed - Joe public offering their services (and prints!) for free!
The only thing that I can suggest is that you offer something they don't - maybe cater for a niche such as B&W (This works for some wedding photographers), or try and get a 'name' for yourself so that clients feel they are paying for 'something' - try and get your photography published or exhibited?
Then the choice becomes one of paying for a professional service from a know professional photographer or for free from an amateur 'snapper'...
Good luck in any case, this is not an enviable position to be in!

Not to hijack this thread, but going slightly off topic, I didn't know about this difference. So, does this mean that mounting K or M lenses on an 'A' body (or A lenses on an pre-A body) will result in inaccurate in camera meter readings?

It might be worth seeing what they look like converted to B&W - the yellow cast is a little off-putting spoiling a nice set of images?

Been debating with myself for a week and this morning finally pushed the button on a BP Spotmatic SPII to pair up with the chrome SPII I already own (it's away for a cla at the moment so was probably missing it!)
