Ordered a third party lens hood for the Tamron (JJC branded) and it indeed fits like a charm. Even the markings line up.
Probably a little more flimsy than the original offerings but it does the job and it didn't cost over 10% what i paid for the lens. :)

I got a D-FA 24-70 for not much money at an auction with only a scratch on the front element and no caps and hoods.
Finding a front cap isn't really an issue but the original Pentax hood is sold out anywhere locally and stupid expensive.
Has anyone tried the Tamron version or a third party alternative? Judging by the lens side by side images I'd think they're compatible.

Sweet build! Trigger wheel for custom EFI? I've a side project of converting a X1/9 to a 1.6 16v with EFI but it's really slow because of funds and time.

To add some pictures to this thread: My latest addition. 1968 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe.
Had it for a couple of years now. Changed the 1.4 engine to a 2.0 with twin carbs and electronic ignition for an 45% increase in horsepower. But an even larger reduction in fuel economy  IMGP0155 by Rik Bovenkamp, on Flickr IMGP3720 by Rik Bovenkamp, on Flickr

A friend of mine worked at a Toyota dealership for a while as a mechanic (in Europe) and he said that all they did was regular maintenance and replacing D4-D diesel engines. Rarely any other mechanical issues.
So whenever someone asks me what reliable car to get I answer: Toyota, but no diesel. Despite I'll never consider buying one.

Thanks everybody for the responses. It's clear that it's default behaviour as is, especially the gear guide explains it clearly.

I received my K-1 II last week after shooting with my K-5 for over 10 years but noticed the focus confirmation light is totally different.
The K-5 lights up the exact focus point in the viewfinder when the subject is in focus and keeps it on as long as it's in focus together with a green dot under the viewfinder. The K-1 on the other hand only shortly illuminates the viewfinder with a red light, not the exact focus point. Is this normal behaviour or is there something wrong with my camera? I've found setting number 9 but that only prevents the short red flash to turn off during day shooting.
Maybe a really stupid and basic question but couldn't find something similar on the forum or described in the reviews. It's workable but feels like a step down from an older model.

You've got 3 blind men on order?
Isn't that illegal?
ps: increase your mouse sensitivity, helps a lot for unaccurate mouses

They can but they wont, there is just not enough strenght in the stabilizer to affect the ball joints. The big wheels and skinny tires on the other hand can definitely be part of the problem since they filter out less of the bumps.

beetje raar om dit in het engels te doen maar het blijft een internationaal forum ;) I work a lot on Punto's which are basicly the same and worn stabilizer end rods are common, but I only change them when you start to hear them. You also have to take them of the car to be able to feel if they're worn since the stabilizer makes it that there's constant pressure on the ball joints. I've never heard of a punto with worn front wheel bearings, but i've also never seen a punto with the 1.6 diesel. But bearings can be a MOT failure (apk afkeur) without you noticing. |

To put some euro's in this conversation these are my cars.
As a daily driver '09 fiat Bravo 2.0 multijet. 165hp, 360Nm diesel (planning to get it tuned to 200hp) in sport trim and pearl red paint.
What i like:
- the engine, it's a beast. Smooth, fast, silent when it has to be, grunty when you want it to.
- comfortable straight on and tight through corners.
- the looks, I always look back after parking it. :o
what could be better:
- economy, around 16.5km/l (38-39mpg), while not bad for the type of car/engine I was hoping for a bit better.
- hard of speedbumps and short ridges, mainly because of the low profile tires
- I can't find the perfect driving position.
My other car that used to be my daily driver but promoted to weekend and hobby car is also a fiat Bravo but 10 years older and with a 2.0 20v 5-cyl petrol engine. I don't really know if i should keep it insured or not since it costs about a k-3 II body a year just to drive it occasionally (excluding fuel) but it drives so good and I'll never find one in this condition again. |

I think a good clean of the lens and body contacts is the first thing to do.
Also make sure that the camera is set up correct for use with lenses with aperture rings, there are multiple guides on how to do that.

I assume your main issue is the purpleish color on the right. That's indeed mainly the lens his fault.
Don't forget that the jump from the 6mp ist to the 16mp k-50 is massive and reveals the faults in lenses you otherwise wouldn't have noticed. Pentax revised the kit lens for later models to keep up with the higher resolution.
Also the use of (dirty) filters can greatly reduce image quality, especially in these kind of situations (shooting into the light).

Are the DNG files imported in the correct colorspace? Importing a file as AdobeRGB while it's shot in sRGB really messes up the colors.

If i'm correct turning on highlight and shadow compensation changes the min/max ISO values. Try turning these functions off.

got to menu, C, and point 3 should probably say extended sensitivity (my camera is in Dutch so I don't know the exact translation). If you turn that on you can go as low as ISO 80.

because 3<5 simple as that
serious answer: I think biz engineer is referring to the first tests of the k-3 which mentioned that the high iso performance is lower than that of the k-5 (II) but the difference is negligible in the real world.

And apparently i don't  . We don't really have fast flowing rivers here so I don't think I've ever seen flowing water at that temperatures in real live.

Great Shot Matt, although I would've used a slightly longer exposure to increase the water flow, now it just looks like unsharpness.
I received my 15mm (SMC version) yesterday and I'm already in love, also first shot = first starburst :D |
