K1 and heat will it shutdown?

Temperature is not an issue with my K1. I have traveled through Australia's searing central deserts, the hot, humid Northern Territory and north Western Australia using the K1 without problems related to heat. Occasionally if I get in and out of the air-conditioned campervan in really hot conditions I'll get some condensation, so I just remember to open a window or turn down the aircon before I get to my destination so the temp equalises a bit.

94F is very common in summer around where I live too...and no probs.

I agree with DeadJohn that it sounds like focus confirmation.

I want one, and have been awaiting a sale, but will pass at that price.

Yvon Bourque, Pentax eBook Author is ill - Fundraiser & donation special

I have donated an amount through the system...used the site supporter area...please ensure it goes to Yvon.

Over the years I have bought the K-3 and K-1 books and have found them absolutely invaluable references, especially given that the Pentax manuals are so sparse.

Please pass my best wishes to Yvon for successful surgery and a speedy recovery!

2017 Forester...I have already put 54,000km on the clock traveling most of the way around Australia this year....

...and on getting home I recently bought a 2014 VW Campervan with double bed, cooker, water tanks and fridge on a Transporter 4 Motion (AWD) base so I can go in greater comfort - I got a bit sick of the tent. It has dual house batteries so I can free camp for a few days in the outback. Because it is a pop-top I can take it into underground carparks and at a pinch can get it into my home garage. It also fits my Hobie Sport kayak inside with the bed down which is great for both fishing and photography. It is compact but practical and quite comfy.

Oooooh. I have been looking for a little high quality camera for street for a few months as there are plenty of situations where the K-1 is too obtrusive. I need look no further!

Mine is with CRK in Melbourne...waiting. They have offered to send it back to me until the kits arrive, but I am hoping it won't be too long and so have left it with them.

Hand held pixel shift and even better low light performance will be a big plus for me.

From a k-1 user real world impressions about the k-1 II

My K-1 has the very annoying shutter shock, so since learning from this forum that it wasn't user error, I have avoided a range of shutter speeds. For me, having that improved/fixed is enough for me to get the upgrade. I was also wondering about hand held pixel shift, 'cos sometimes I simply can't/don't want to set up a tripod.

Thanks Andrea for the user perspective - I am a hobbyist and pixel peeping/tech stuff isn't my thing, but your summary has answered many of my questions!

are you happy with switching to FF?

I just love the K-1. Suddenly I felt totally happy with the camera - even the tutor art school commented on how much better my photos were. For some reason,FF is the format for me..I just really enjoy it. The K-1 is very easy to love.

I have used my K-3 a couple of times when I needed to pack lighter, and the dynamic range, the format, the ability to hand-hold in low light just weren't anywhere near as good. I have two K-3s and will probably sell one and keep the other for macro...the DFA-100 macro focuses better on the K-3. Wish I had kept my K-5, though. Its low light performance strikes me as having been better than the K-3's.

I am heading off with my car, tent and K-1 for a little drive around Australia and will be on the road (staying primarily in remote areas) with no fixed address throughout the time of the upgrade. Leaving in three weeks and don't expect to be home until October at the earliest.

We get US cheese in Costco, but not elsewhere as far as I know. My favourite cheese is made at Tilba dairy 40km about from where I live and it is so nice to see the cows rambling around in the lush green paddocks I haven't got round to buying any imported cheese recently.

Love the wild Alaskan salmon, though, and Kirkland Jelly Bellies.

Poll: Poll: Who will buy the new DFA*50mm on release?

No...it's not a focal length I use that often and I have the 43 and a 50 (or two) already.

I'm also unlikely to buy the 85...I have the 77 and the 100 macro which give me excellent results.

I want a wide/wide-ish, waterproof prime that isn't enormous....I get a bit tired of lugging round the 15-30, so a lot of the time it gets left at home.

Anyone planning to grow old with their K3?

When my K-1 becomes too much for me (I am well past 60 and have arthritis in my hands), I'll shift back to my K-3 and quite happily use it for the rest of my days.

While I REALLY enjoy FF and my photography teacher said I seemed much more connected with that format from the day I switched, it is big and heavy and the K-3 is a really fabulous camera. I may well take it on my trip to New Zealand in a couple of weeks rather than the K-1.

shutter vibration and shake reduction

Darn....reading through this thread I realise I have probably just spent close to $2000 on a (to me) high end tripod and ballhead to correct a problem that is not entirely tripod related.

Oh well, it will serve me for the rest of my life and this thread has provided a source to which I will return many times as I attempt to resolve the issue's affect on my photography.

And to think, that in trying to counter this effect, I was frequently using shutter speeds that would have made the problem more noticeable.

Thanks all for the masses of useful info in this thread!

2) reading glasses, so I can see what needs cleaning off the lens
3) 4WD car...like the US we have big distances, and rough roads
