I just thought this was nice picture of a building. It's the best picture I've ever taken. I am a complete novice at this photography stuff. I am attempting to master my composition skills. I am impressed with how nice this picture became. I am only now beginning to manually manipulate ISO, shutter speed and appeiture to achieve better results. I am no where near good enough to master those big three elements of great photography yet. Give me time. I am slow to start but once my systems get a feel and understanding of the three I'll surprise you all with the pictures I take..

I know how easy it is to delete an entire bunch of bad shots out of frustration and rage but doing so does not help you figure out the issue causing your less than perfect shots. You must apply logic, common sense and deductive reasoning to each failure. You must use the skills of forensics to uncover the thing you are doing that causes less than perfect results. If the issue is not in your equipment then the answer is somewhere in your procedure or technique. Logic would suggest you go back to a point where your pictures were acceptable even good. Then apply each of your upgraded skill sets in successive layers until your get your first set of uniformly bad images. That latest (most recently applied) skill set upgrade is the most likely cause of any less than great pictures. Looking into every aspect of your technique holds the key finding the element or elements in your photography skills requiring a more careful review.

I might be out of line here but am only trying to help.

Thinking about a Pentax...

For the very beginning of your journey I'd stay with name brand Pentax lenses. Sigma quality can be spotty and I'd rather not see you get mired into quality issues so early in your Pentax camera experience. Better to have two quality lenses to learn with than have 3 lesser quality lenses that introduce their own unique challenges into your learning curve. Now I am autistic so when I learn I want as few complications as possible. Not all people are like me so you might be able to handle additional complications caused by off brand lenses. Nice thing is with the AF \ Auto Focus and other automated settings of the K5 it is really hard to take a truly rotten picture. As you gain skill using the K5 your pictures will only get better. As a beginner I'd suggest you shoot in RAW format and buy Adobe Lightroom 4 if you want to bring out photographic information hidden in your photos. Adobe Elements 10 is great if you want some basic photo editing options along with bringing out hidden photographic richness.

I brought the following

Pentax DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED Lens (For Telephoto)

Pentax FA 50mm F/1.4 Lens (For Macro Shots)

PENTAX 2187 DA 50-200MM F/4-5.6 AL Weather Resistant Lens (For Everyday Basic Photography, Portraits and the like!)

Hope I helped!

Hello everyone I am a complete newbie when it comes to photography as a hobby. I am in Information Technology as a profession so taking pictures will just be something I do to provide pleasure in my life. I have autism so my questions my sound very odd and basic when I need help. I have started taking pictures with my K5 and love it already. I am using auto focus a lot but slowly doing some focusing myself. I have photoshop elements 10 and will likely buy Lightroom 4 soon as I have the money saved. I just spent over $3,500.00 on a Pentax camera and 3 nice lenses, photography books, lots of basic accessories and more. I am pleased with my Pentax K5 camera. Only gripe I have about Pentax so far is the cheap plastic lens mounting's that are part of certain lenses. The K5 camera is designed tough like a battle hardened a warhorse instead of some cheap plastic garbage. The K5 while taking some getting used to is easy to use once you get the hang of its controls. I took my first totally awesome picture using a Pentax telephoto lens. Using a Pentax 55mm x 200mm lens from my balcony 14 miles away, I captured Downtown Baltimore City sitting peacefully and beautifully on a carpet of trees. This was my first picture in JPG format with this quality K5 camera and I was so totally impressed. I have now figured out how to set for both RAW and JPEG so I am starting on Post Production Editing using Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. So far I am loving this whole photography experience. I am not good enough to share any of my photos yet but someday soon I will be. I love my picture of Baltimore so much I have it as a desk top on all my computers at home and will soon have it on my work computer as well.

Thanks for reading me. Any suggestions on what I should focus on as a new hobby photographer sound off. I will read all suggestions.

Thanks: From WOLF
