The most intresting camera rumor announced (offical announcement verrrry soon :D) from any brand is the sony Nex-6. Awesome sensor with great noise performance. Solid autofocus. New EVF, focus peaking. nice compact body, wifi, gps, great big LCD, good sony video quality. aNd downloadeble apps for extra functions in the future.
that for 1000$

Not really sure. Yodobashi is just a huge electro store. The same K30 attention was in many other stores btw. There would be people specifically try to sell it to you. Not mentioning other options! :lol:
But on my whole month in Japan, i saw one or 2 times a canon or nikon. 100's of Pentax and a sony sometimes. I was really stunned!

I was in Japan for summer. And i was Shocked. The only cameras i saw were K30's. I couldnt believe my eyes. They were everywhere!!!
Selling like crazy over there! and this is why
Heavy Marketing In the middle of a crazy busy big street next to a HUGE Yodabashi Camera shop. People try and buy!

I have superb A2 size prints from my K-5 or sony alpha-77. They are tack sharp and yes they also look like you can jump into them. No soul (exept pixel peepers with a lookging glass) on earth will notice a difference when i do the same prints with a D800 and 2000 dollar lens.
Because a K5- 40 mm prime for example is a good enough combo to get those amazing prints already. No need to spend 2000 euro more to get a sharper print. 4,928 x 3,264 is plenty enough resolution for nice large prints.

Fair enough :) I agree you can notice a difference if you really pay attention. But my point of view is that you dont necessarily need the best of the best for a good large print.

You look to much into it. You can have perfectly beautiful large prints with a K5 18-55 kit combo for example. If your picture is awesome it'll look awesome on any but the most insanely large prints..and even then. All this "high res is a necessity for large print" talk is out of control. It is not a necessity. Art viewers dont care. I've been in tons of photography exhibitions. The best photos are most of the times not the sharpest. In the end, it really doesnt matter. Subject matter

Imo the points about picture quality are irrelevant when choosing between those two cameras. No way anyone would notice a difference in real world usage. DSLR's came to a point that when choosing between cameras it comes down to handling, feel, shooting features, speed, and solid focus capabilities. The camera that you feel good with and has features that help you make the pictures you want will make good pictures, not the one that has more shadow recovery in post process :)
With that in mind, if you care about AF performance in your shooting style then go with the K30. If you prefer a more solid built and top LCD and perhaps more advanced bracketing features etc then go with the k5.

But a lens is everything. Trust me you can put a Top class lens on a sensor from 5 years ago and get stunning results or you can put a 200 euro lens on a D800 and get crappy results. You are not going to be able to tell me when you see A77/1650 pictures that those are from a sensor that has more visible noise at iso 3200 (in lab tests). But im not here to bash anything, I really do love pentax. But i think they good use a better zoom aroung the 500 USD range.

I got it as a kit with the a77. For me thats a kit lens, Perhaps a high end 'kit lens' but with only a 100 dollar orso differnce in price with the 18 135 from Pentax, its ALOT better, competing with Pro level lenses out there. Not comparing with the really cheap 18-55.

After using the 16-50 2.8 from sony with a a77 i cant help but agree that pentax kit zooms are lacking. I mean that sony lens is on par with Carl Zeiss for half the price, Good stuff really, Other then that the k30 sencor looks to do its job surely ok.

thanks all of you guys for the comments. I already feel much better and i just learned a very important lesson. It's not the first time i would leave something laying around. I just had to learn it the hard way. And i did...
I've been more carefull with EVERYTHING since then. I took several other positive notes:
First of all god decided to teach me my lesson BEFORE i had several 1000 euro lenses in my bag...
I made somebody happy with a great DSLR and spread the pentax brand like that :D
I'll have to buy another pentax now so more more money for pentax!
I can now start thinking about my new DSLR. ( maybe i"ll try the K30 or try to find a K5-silver edition or wait for a K5 succesor or...)
IRT Heie. thank you so much for the generous offer. I really thank you and appreciate that. But untill i'll get my new dslr in the following weeks/months i still have an old SONY A100 to undust and go out with.

Wow what a bummer i had yesterday. The most unexpected and unwanted thing happened to me. I LOST MY K5.
I was out with friends, had plenty many beers and my mind was occupied with alot of nonsense all the time. Then suddenly the red lights start flickering and the alarm took off.
I didnt have my camera with me anymore!!!!
Drunk as i was i couldnt recall what excactly happened nor where i really left/lost it. Wow what a bad feeling in my stomach i have now. I feel so stupid and guilty.
I feel like i'm the only one in the world that ever lost he's k5 or dslr. Bad bad experience.
Now i'll have to buy a new one! :lol:

Today i was walking the streets again with my Sexy looker K-5. And just felt so special when i saw all the 60D's and D7000's around me :D (or lower models)
But yeah, its mainly the built, image quality and great primes that seal the deal for me
