Big lenses have a place, as long as their image quality is a significant jump on their predecessors.
I just got a FA*85, and my first few shots with it have convinced me that it is indeed very special compared to my highly esteemed FA77.
But I'm not getting rid of the FA77. Ever. It may become more of a crop lens to me - perfect for head shots at roughly 115/2.4 full frame equivalent.
Will I consider the DFA*85? Maybe, but it will have to be *amazing*.

We've just seen it so many times before. The K-1 is a failure because: (a) it has too few megapixels. " Nothing less than 42 megapixels is adequate. We Pentaxians need the best!" or (b) it has too many megapixels. "I will not buy a camera that has more than 24 megapixels!" Or maybe, (a) It would have been a better camera if Pentax had left video off. "We Pentaxians are conservative types who have no use for video. Pentax could have left it off and saved each one of us 7 dollars off the sticker price." or (b) It doesn't have 4K video with 60 fps. "I won't buy a camera that doesn't have cutting edge video. Pentax is so behind the times when it comes to technology." And the same conversation can be repeated for any other thing you want to mention (built in flash, GPS, pixel shift technology, etc).
In the end, I just hope Pentax releases a camera that works well, doesn't crash, has decent resolution, and mounts k mount lenses without an adapter. I have a feeling I will be happy... :)

The DA15 and DA21 are great at 14-pointers. I also like the 18-pointer from the FA31

The moon and vulture shots are great! Is the last one cropped?
Here are a few of mines. I think the lens is very sharp, but light conditions were quite hard, most shots taken at the end of the first day (second was cloudy).
1°) 1/800sec - f/8 - ISO200 - 450mm - 21% crop
2°) 1/1600sec - f/7.1 - ISO400 - 410mm - 50% crop
3°) 1/1000sec - f/6.3 - ISO800 - 450mm - 85% crop
4°) 1/1000sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 450mm - 78% crop
5°) 1/1600sec - f/8 - ISO400 - 450mm - 62% crop
(the crop values are the remaining pixels percentage, eg 100% = no crop, 10% = huge crop)

These were shot in a rather strange antique store near Dallas, Texas.
K5 IIs and the DA 35mm macro ISO 1600 to 3200 It was very, very dark in this warehouse.
I'm not sure what this glass thing is.. maybe a vase or part of a light fixture of some kind.. really could not tell.
I found the colors to be interesting.. this is military footwear of some kind.. from India.
I found a bunch of shells in a box and thought it might make a nice monochrome.
In the very back corner of the warehouse there was an old weathered door with a crucifix hanging on it.. a bit of light coming in from a window. ISO 1600.
The shot below was taken in the darkest part of the warehouse.. the camera actually "saw" more than I could see with my Mark I Eyeball. 1/13s at ISO 3200. Handheld shot which could have been sharper. This is the fabled Typewriter Graveyard.
And a couple from the rail-yard in Grapevine, Texas. |

Here's a few from the last two weeks... picked up the K5 IIs recently and have been enjoying using it. These shots were taken with the DA* 50-135mm and the DA 35mm. I have found the photographs from the K5 IIs to be better than those from my original K5.. which is for sale at this time.

Peter:
You are going to love that camera. Given your interest in portraits, you might try a 67 90mm f2.8 or 67 105mm f2.4 (via adapter). Very nice OOF rendering with those lenses. Pentax has a new 90mm with in-lens stabilization for the 645, but it is quite expensive ($5k), the old 67 lenses are a few hundred dollars. An example with the 90mm:

Until I see Nikon dump their F mount which has been going strong since 1959, I am not too concerned about the K-mount not being workable on dSLR or aps-c or ff milc cameras.

Infuriated by the ability of the weather to be clear and dry at night but damp all day, but surprised by the number of pictures I took today. I'm happy with many of these either in colour or black and white. Feel free to let me know which you prefer! Sorry for the sheer number of these!
