Weather Resistant Specs: DA* x DA WR

Hey! thats my post.
I wrote you back, and then after re-reading what I posted a 8 months or so ago, It still holds true. The K10/20 held up fine. 16-50 is an amazingly tightly sealed lens, no issues.

What you guys are discussing in this thread is interesting though. I'm going again this year, and have the new WR 18-55 that is making the trip. The point about it not being as tightly sealed didn't even dawn on me until reading this. But try this on: when we think about it, its not the lens that will break down, its dust getting in the camera that is worrysome. It may happen, but if ANY lens were to break, it'd probably be the higher end DA* with its internal motor. The kit lens relies on the internal camera motor for focusing and has much less moving parts than a DA*.

Just my 2c before really knowing how the WR lenses are sealed up. Lets meet on the playa and compare sensor dust!

Maybe i just don't know the older cameras as well, but I just checked images of all the K series cameras and none match the top of the camera in your picture. What camera is that?

Edit: yep checked again, i wonder what picture i was looking at for the K100d.. i see it has the single top button now. mystery solved.

DPREVIEW strikes again with "Nearly"?

Yeah i agree, there seems to be two versions around. I'm sorry i started the thread. I was just getting annoyed at folks here at work saying it wasn't 100% when everything i've seen says it was.
If we fault anyone it would be pentax for not getting the story straight.

I'm not 'nearly' as worked up about it as some might suppose :p

Starting to get OP's remorse here.. I think we should wait to see if dpreview corrects, or at least explains this in the full review. It seems they are really impressed with the camera as most of us are. I have no reason to believe the nearly was malicious.

I think we should move along until there is real drama to report.

much humor guys... I didn't start the debate i was just wondering what was up. folks here made a point of saying it wasn't 100%.

I agree, quite the glowing preview by the dpreview boys, and i don't find any fault with it at all. I was just bringing up the point made looking for why they would say nearly.

now back to scheduled programing

At work, on our internal photography list there is a debate taking place.

on the dpreview frontpage we see this

"Optical viewfinder showing nearly 100% field of view
The K-7’s glass prism finder offers an approximately 100% field of view..."

While on the official pentax press release (and all other websitess i can find say 100% not "nearly") we see this:
"A 100 percent field-of-view viewfinder (92X magnification) and bright focusing screen are ideal for accurate image composition and accurate focus."

I can see this causing trouble, and my fanboism is triggered. Anyone care to comment?

thats exactly the emotion

hah yeah its odd that it appears so clean. though I tried an exposure with flash, that one isn't so pristine

yeah I think thats part of what grabs me about it. She fits the processing. Remind me to pull the K1000 out next time i'm in a bar. I'm really liking the grain these days.

This is my first submission to the fine forum here. nice to meet you all.

Last night, Valentine’s Day, a local rag hosted an anti-valentine's day party at a club. Basically it’s all about ridding your relationship demons. The public came up on stage, shared their failed love stories to the audience and presented the MC with an item to destroy. It was great fun; there were picture burnings, blenders, sledgehammers and liquid nitrogen among others.

I didn't try too hard to get close to the stage, I hate flash in public and the lighting was horrid. That being said I walked away with a few that I really thought turned out well. Take them for what their worth.

One of the therapeutic methods was to tape the picture in the men’s room, you get the idea.
Both photos with an SMC-F 50mm 1.7 and a K10d

The second is a friend of mine with a beautiful face. I like the noise profile in this high ISO portrait. It seems to go well here. Sometimes I need a reminder that IQ isn't everything when conveying the emotion. While it borders on a snapy snap shot, I still find merit in it overall. Hope you guys enjoyed them.

that makes sence, but then where does that leave the k200d? I think we have to rule out that hypothesis.

Exellent argument, and that was basicaly what sold me on the k10 a year ago, as i was joe smith then.

But then there is the next obvious question joe will ask himself. Is it safe to go in to the nasty
ocean adrift away from the canikon ship? I mean I'm joe smith and i've seen the advertisements on TV, and those big lenses that they use. I know that canon and nikon make good cameras, and if they have enough money to be on TV then they must be doing something right. What about support with Pentax? And how come the Expert salesman keeps talking about the 40D?

Basically I think many potential future first time pentaxians are lost by fear. This will of course lesten as sales staff gains confidence in the brand and can recomend pentax because they have a well rounded line of lenses. Its a fact of life that Pentax needs to have these smiley faces behind the check boxes to overcome the fear of the unknown manufacturer frowny face. Pentax knows this.

just my contribution

Ben, as you say these are only compressed in PS, so no PP. Though the EXIF is incomplete and can't determine if some or any had a flash fire. I think the most striking thing I notice is White balance. On all the pictures it is set at Auto, and unless you've got some very cool lighting in your house i must say that setting to Tungeston whenever we're indoors is a thing of the past.

This is a quote via bablefish from the K200d catalog. it DOES have weather seals.

"With the PENTAX K200D all weather is photo weather. 60 seals at the Body and 14 at the battery handle ensure for the fact that humidity, dust and sand of the camera cannot wear anything. In addition the fiber-glass-strengthened polycarbonate housing with high-grade steel chassis offers the necessary robustness, in order to exist in the daily employment sovereign."
