In 2017, I was able to drive to Idaho from Washington and shot the eclipse with my Pentax fish eye lens (time lapse) and the DA 560 at totality.

In 2024, I had to fly to get to the path of totality. MFT was the way to go with OM-1 bodies and 12-40 and 150-400 TC more easily packed for travel.

Here are shots from Carbondale, IL. Time lapse with the 12-40 up to totality and quick shots with the 150-400 at totality. The experience made special by a northern cardinal singing it's evening chorus as the light faded and temperature cooled just before totality.

Here's some from southern Ontario.

The day started out very cloudy but miraculously cleared just as the eclipse started.

I was just outside of totality, about 99.2%. It was still spectacular though. I was surprised by how much the temperature dropped in those few minutes.

I used my K3, DA*300mm, & DA 1.4X teleconverter, together with ICE ND2000 & ND64 filters (17 stops total)

Part way through. If you look closely you can see a sunspot

This was the extent of totality

Then I popped my filters off and got this funky image.

evolution of my dragon shot. Tried to make the red more subtle. Desaturating didn't give me the look I want, but I'm pretty happy with this. Same image but also light l;painted with a white light & a black & white layer added at 50% opacity.

An immature Bald eagle that is molting into its next stage of maturity(except now during the winter). The various shades of brown at this age is quite striking. I'm guessing about 1 1/2 years old. Shot with a K3III and the 560. I purchased the lens used and have used it almost every day for about 6 months. So far so good. It's a love hate relationship for sure. It can produce some outstanding images. But CA control is not very good for what it sold for new. In comparison, the 150-450 is a reliable bargain. That being said, I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon.
