On that image comparison, the K1 II looks the best to me and the A7RIII looks the worst at all ISO's.

I think its the lens. Ive owned the same one in the past and very rarely got a decent photo from it.

I took this one a couple of years ago. Remote beach in Far North Queensland, Australia. Taken with the K30 and Sigma 18-35mm. Its not as sharp on PF as it is on 500px, but you get the idea. :)

Perhaps PF could compile an article on what is actually different in this new model?

Thanks. Im fortunate to live in a place with very little light pollution, so ill get back out and try again properly on the new moon in a couple of weeks. It was nearly a full moon as you can see in the previous image that i took. I was just keen to try it out.

pentax lenses tests on K1

Yep, thats what I was getting at. People tend to exaggerate their ratings after forking over their hard earned cash, and they'll be especially favourable in their review if they're particularly smitten with a lens, overlooking certain flaws it might have.

Im not so certain. Whilst I love having access to the user reviews and find them helpful, I find many of them to be biased so I take them with a grain of salt (unless images are provided). The number of 10/10 for sharpness that I see is way too high.

I would return the 28-105mm considering you have the 24-70mm.

Great photos.

It must be something to do with the compression of photos on this site. Every time i looked at your photos, i kept thinking "Geez, why are his shots always out of focus?? Surely he can see that?"

But then i looked at them via their links and at full size and I saw how much nicer they are (and sharp)! I was really starting to second guess whether i should by a K1 and 24-70!! :p;)

To reiterate what others have said, SR is off when you use a remote, so that isn't your problem. The issue is your slow shutter speed. At a minimum, your shutter speed should be twice your focal length, so in this case, an absolute minimum you'd aim for is 1/60th of a second (based on a 28mm focal length). Personally, for portraits id go even faster.

Its a shame you missed focus on the fly. Im curious, as I see missed focus alot and im wondering if its the lens or the K1? Several of my lenses have front focusing issues and it can be especially hard to nail focus at those wide apertures.

Fantastic! Especially considering the light pollution. You can even see Andromeda in that first shot.

Yes the Sigma 18-35mm is a fantastic piece of glass. Superb optics and very fast. Id love to try the o-gps, especially now I live in an area with very little light pollution.

It was the new moon last night so I took advantage of living in a remote part of Australia with no light pollution. The milky way was clearly visible to the naked eye (although not to the colours that the camera saw). Crazy how many stars could be seen. It was a cloudless, calm evening. Perfect! K-30 with Sigma 18-35mm at 18mm, F1.8, ISO 3200, 25 secs. The photo has been compressed a bit to get under the size limit so its lost a bit of clarity, but you get the idea :)

Great night sky shot! Did you use the astrotracer feature for this? 60 seconds and no trails is awesome
