The YN 585EX is a P-TTL flash, but doesn't have a build-in radio receiver for triggering it, nor does Yongnuo have a radio trigger that will fire it in P-TTL mode. You could use it in manual mode off-camera, but you would need both a receiver and transmitter like the a pair of Yongnuo RF-603N II. These triggers can be used as either transmitter or receiver and while they are for a Nikon camera, they work on Pentax as well.
To use the YN 585EX off-camera in P-TTL mode, you need an on-camera flash that can be used as a master or controller for the off-camera flash. A Pentax 540 or 360 fits that requirement. It controls the off-camera flash by light rather than by radio.
The flash used in that video you cite was a YN-560 III, which is strictly a manual flash. You could trigger it with one YN RF-603N II as the flash has a radio receiver built into it. Another option is to use the YN 560 TX. In addition to being able to trigger a YN 560 III or IV flash, you can also adjust the power level and zoom function of these two flashes from the YN 560 TX, which is really helpful when the flash is zipped up in a softbox. Otherwise, you have to open up the softbox to make any adjustments on the back of the flash.

Thanks so much for your insight and diligence in pursuing this problem. Hopefully this puts the whole issue to rest regarding the aperture block. It's too bad that Ricoh/Pentax didn't take the time to assure it's user base that steps were taken to rectify this issue. I'm sure that sales suffered as some buyers were reluctant to invest in one of these cameras because of this issue. I know I've been interested in a camera with an articulating rear screen for some time, but unwilling to consider a Pentax because of the issue. Hopefully, Ricoh can find a few more of the K-S2's that were offered for $300 a few days ago. If so, I'll get one.

Along these lines regarding learning Darktable, when in the lighttable or darkroom module, if you click on the question mark that's located above and to the right of the image(s), and then click on a module/control element, e.g., Exposure, the appropriate section of the user's manual will open on a new web page.

Jon55, it may be that the pins/contacts on the flash and the trigger are not touching one another with the flash mounted in the trigger. Make sure you are sliding the flash all the way into the trigger. Or, perhaps try mounting the flash backwards from how you're doing it now.

Brightseal, before you give up on the YN585EX, give this a try. Set your k-3II to "X" mode on the camera's dial. This fixes the shutter speed at 1/180 sec which is the flash sync speed of the camera. Set the ISO to 400. Use that 35mm lens you used for the photos of the YN boxes and set it to an aperture of 5.6. Mount the YN585EX in the hot shoe and press the mode button on the flash until "P-TTL" appears in it's display. Take a picture indoors of something about 10 feet away. If this doesn't give you a reasonably well exposed photo, I'd say something is wrong with the flash.

Just to clarify a bit, the YN-585ex works in P-TTL mode on the hot shoe. If you want it to work in wireless (optical) P-TTL mode off-camera, you need another flash to serve as Master or Controller like the Pentax 360FGZ, 540FGZ, 360FGZ II, or 540FGZ II. The YN-585EX cannot serve as a Master/Controller.

Sorry. Ronald. Don't know how I got K-30 out of your original post. I've not heard of the K-R having this problem either. Guess I have to read more carefully.

Ronald, before buying or bidding, make sure it doesn't suffer from the dreaded aperture block failure where the aperture stays closed to it's smallest opening regardless of the camera setting.

Canon has this sale on again where you buy two CLI-42 ink cartridges for the Pro-100 printer and you get 50 sheets of 13x19" Semi Gloss SG-201 photo paper free, plus you'll get free shipping. So, if you buy a complete set of eight ink cartridges, two at a time in four separate transactions, you'll get 200 sheets of the semi gloss paper free. Don't know how long this deal will last. The pack of 50 sheets of paper itself sells for about $55. Here's the link -- PIXMA PRO-100 Inks | Canon Online Store
Canon has a similar deal on inks for the Pro-10, but you'll have to buy three cartridges to qualify for the free paper.

The YN585EX is a snug fit on the K-3 II (there is no daylight between the GPS housing and the flash), but it does fit and the flash works in P-TTL mode as it should.
Regarding the YN560IV not fitting the K-3 II, you can use a hot shoe adapter like this one -- SEAGULL SC-2 Flash Hot Shoe Adapter with PC Sync socket | eBay -- which lifts the flash well above the GPS housing. There is one problem, however, when using one of these adapters and that is you can't lock the adapter to the hot shoe on the camera. The adapter I have is a tight fit in the hot shoe and seems secure, but it is something to consider depending on how the camera/flash is being used.

Just a thought, if the pins aren't lining up, perhaps you can mount the flash backwards in the trigger shoe and that will bring the pins in alignment.

Hamiltom, let us know how that swap of a solenoid from a film era camera works out. FYI, In one of the other threads on this subject in the K-30/K-50 forum, I was told that the solenoid from an MZ-50 worked, but there were other postings that some of these earlier solenoids had the wrong polarity (which you could fix by reversing the wires) or too great a holding power and thus wouldn't work.

If you want P-TTL off-camera, but not HSS, there is the Yongnuo YN585EX Speedlite for Pentax. You can trigger it optically with your 540 in P-TTL mode, but not the other way around.

Take a look at the B&H ad for the printer. It has a link to the rebate form you can download. This rebate cycle started on June 1st, so perhaps Adorama hasn't gotten around to showing it yet.

Thanks, Adam.
I don't need another one of these printers, but I'm thinking about it. For those $60 out-of-pocket, you get a full set of ink cartridges worth $125 and paper worth $50. And, the print head goes for around $100 on ebay.

The Pro-100 now is down to $309.99 before the rebate, so a net of $59.99. That's at either B&H or Adorama. With B&H you'll see the price in your cart. I believe B&H set this pricing for their OPTIC2018 Imaging Conference and Adorama matched the price. The conference runs until June 6th, so I guess that's when this special pricing will end, but who knows. Get one while you can, you won't be disappointed. These printers come with standard sized ink cartridges, but they're big and heavy.

Adorama has the PRO-100 on sale now for $59.99 after rebate. It's selling for $309.99 and comes with 50 sheets of 13x19" Luster photo paper which qualifies you for a $250 rebate. Don't know how long the sale will last so you might want to move fast to take advantage of the deal. B&H has a similar deal for $319.99, but you won't see that price until you add the printer to your cart. No special code needed for either store. If you also subtract the value of the paper ($50.00) from the deal, the printer is $9.99.
