It's got a retractable hood AND Full-frame ready,,, it'll look 'good' on the new Pentax Full Frame.
The contrast of the' Old' versus the' New',, so any of you guys plan on getting the new FF? A ready 'cheap' lens is just a click away

Hi vzbx
I tried a similar test 2 years ago with the similar 3 software(exception being SilkyPix Dev Studio Pro 5 and forgot the Adobe Raw version?? at that time) and had the same impression. I was floored by how good the SilkyPix Raw converter was, the pics were noticeably better. I'm no 'raw file' converter expert so maybe others can chime in and explain whether or not it's the default settings in Adobe or Pentax Utility software that made the differences or that the SilkpyPix software is simply awesome.

...If the shim is thinner than the correct value, you get back focus, if the shim is thicker than you get front focus

Good read rrstuff, let's see if Pentax takes the same level of care and time to properly 'cook their color sauce' on the new 2014 Pentax 645D. |

Guys,
Yes there are 2 versions, 1st version; 12 elements in 9 groups ,, 2nd version; 11 elements in 8 groups,
Here's a review that more closely resembles my experience with the 2nd version lens(DAL has same formula), sharpest at 18mm F8 for center sharpness and F5.6 for edge to edge sharpness. Always keep in mind there's alot of sample to sample variation and your copy may not have the same results. It would be best if you test your lens yourself and see where the 'sweet spot is'. http://www.ephotozine.com/article/pentax-smc-da-18-55mm-ii-f-3-5-5-6-ed-al--...s-review-14951 |

On mine the lens is sharper towards the wide (18mm) and at that focal range F8 gives sharpest centers and F5.6 for edge to edge

I picked 'file 1' for K3. If you look closely, 'file 1' has a sharper center region whereas 'file 2' has sharper left and right sides, the focus maybe abit off??

Thanks for the dng uploads mooeep.
In terms of sharpness, contrast, flair, colour etc. both are very close, tough to pick a 'clear' winner, the HD clearly has a minimal effect according to your shots. But the 'starburst' on the SMC version is so obviously better. Maybe the engineers at Ricoh thought the SMC 'sun-bursts' and 'star-bursts' needed to be tamed?! Don't know if those guys read PF and see that we all like the star-sun-bursts, instead they gave us a 'messy light blob'.
I'm glad to of pick-up the SMC DA15 from Adorama for $500. The SMC version will definitely hold it's value.

Whoaa, that lens is too big,, if only Sigma would release their new 30mm F1.4 DC HSM in a K-mount. It costs less and is lighter(435g). Test reports on other mounts show it's a very good lens.

Excellent question, does anyone know?
Certainly more detail than is needed, I think she needs to moisturize and shave.

Same attitude as you 2.
The new specs and features are quite good, but I want to see actual use and revierws in the field by other snappers 1st. Besides the price is bound to drop in 12 months, My K-5 is plenty good for now.

Frank, great 1st impressions. So-far there doesn't appear to be any negatives, even with the pre-production firmware!
How's the AF?

So Ricoh puts in a headphone jack but still leaves the k-mount crippled!?
How much would a 'stop-down coupler' add to the costs? 1 -2 $$

Before taking out the plunge
1.) Wait for all the final specs and features
2.) Wait for some test reports
2.) Wait for 2nd production run after feedback from 1st group of buyers(field testers)
then maybe buy

The leaked pictures of the K-3 without any lens mounted, don't show the mechanical stop-down coupler/indicator (at 2 o'clock)

You guys are all wrong, haven't you been up on the 'news' in the past few months??
The 'hump' is where the NSA has installed the wireless transmitter to transfer all the pics taken be sent directly to their new data center in Utah. They're starting with Pentax and rolling it out to the Canikon later on.
Happy snapping for the NSA, hehe
