Count me in. However we don't have B&H here. Got mine with 18-135mm.

Hi Edgar, based on my experience generally the "texturised" finish sort of repulses and drains the water better. Also it sports more grip when wet then the glossy finish. You're right that it doesn't render the glossy variant less WR, tho. I just believe the "silky" model might be a slightly better choice for outdoor shooters cause of better handling in the rain.

Just a general thought: wouldn't the glossy "crystal" finish negatively affect the camera's ability to repulse water drops as the textured "silky" finish can?

Stellar review DWB! It makes my waiting for my pre-ordered K-30 slightly less painful. :) Oh, and congratulations to your new job!
Could it be that Pentax will stop producing entry-level DSLRs cameras altogether? So there would be only mid-range DSLRs (K-30), semi-pro DSLRs (K-3) and hopefully Full-frames as a top-notch of the portfolio with advanced mirrorless cameras (K-01) dedicated for enthusiast as the entry-level alternative?

These are just great, robwill!
Also I'm amazed how sharp images and vibrant colours can K-30 produce coupled with (just) 18-135mm

They are usually very soft around the edges too but their low light performance with the aperture wide open is simply brilliant.

Thanks guys, that's very interesting topic. I see now that the term "shutter speed" considering a video recording is a bit misleading. The external link provided as well as Philoslothical's post are very self-explanatory and lead to even more interesting and more detailed reading about given topic. But I don't want to go offtopic here. :) I'm sure there is an appropriate thread in here somewhere. Well, I can wait to fiddle with video recording myself. Thanks again!

Or 1/60 max at 720p? I think I understand now. I always thought that the shutter stays open during the video recording. Now I see it's a nonsense. Again, I'm completely new to video shooting with a DSLR. Anyway, I'll give it a try with my new K-30 soon. :) And I really like your summary, I'm glad that "cons" are not that important to me, reassuring me that I've made a good choice with the K-30. Thanks madbrain.

Excuse my noobish question (I've been using K200D for 3 years as my first DLSR so I've no experience with video capabilities whatsoever) but how does shutter speed influence the video output?

Wow, I can't believe that in my country (Czech Republic) something is actually cheaper than in the rest of the world. :) I have K-30 18-135WR kit pre-ordered (arriving early next week) for $1103 US. Body alone is worth $758 US. Looks like a good deal overall.

Don't forget the top LCD. After my beloved K200D was stolen, I've been looking for a new camera too. Final two contenders for me were K-5 and K-30. Among all the advantages that K-5 has over K-30, for me the comfort of using (backlit) LCD of the K-5 for some quick readings was the most important one (as I'm used to use it from K200D days). Although at the end I opted for K-30 with 18-135mm WR glass (pre-ordered). :)

Sure, what I get from the article is that the AF has a trouble focusing accurately when using outer 6 AF points which is not a tragedy but from my POV an unnecessary flaw. Still I was dreaming of the well working AF system on par with Canikon cameras. The K-30's AF system doesn't seem to be excellent but I believe for most users (including me) it's gonna be "good enough". My pre-order stays. ;)

Review: Pentax K-30
Well, there goes our hope for the excellent AF.
But other than the aperture issue during video shooting the review seems to be very favourable towards the K-30.

Hello fellow Pentaxians, I have a question that bothers me for some time now: is the WR capability of Pentax K-30 (or other WR capable Pentax camera body for that matter) reduced while the internal flash is popped up? There's not a single word about this issue in the users manual. Thank you
