You remind me that back in 2000, my second son got married. He and his bride had hired one of her relatives to take photos. Unfortunately, those photos never came to fruition, as far as I know. I have never seen even one photo from that day, except the ones I took with my film SLR. I am glad to have those few photos but wonder how those taken by my DIL's relative may have turned out, or if they did.
Sometimes the photos of guests may be the only recorded history of important and happy events.

Wasp, I do not doubt that one bit.
Wheatfield, fortunately you have MalwareBytes for protection. I have the same.

The first I saw of the ad was on Facebook so that may have had an influence. I did think it was a scam, and not a very good one.

I just saw this online and wonder if it really could be true, though I doubt it. The link looks strange but it does lead to what I saw, A Pentax K1 markii with extras for $39.99. Summer Breeze Gauze Loose Top |

Because of this thread I have tested all of my flash units with my K1000. Re-tested the Pentax AF160SA performs as expected for all settings and modes, it does fire in Program and Manual mode with the lens in manual and auto setting for the aperture (though I fail to understand how that would have any bearing on the flash since the aperture is totally mechanical and has no electrical connections). My other flash units are: two Quantaray-QB350A, a Focal M500T-Zoom and a Vivitar SF-4000. All of them work properly with my K1000.

There are three contact points on the bottom of the flash. Each matches up either contacts on my DSLRs. The flash will fire in programmed or manual mode on each of my DSLRs.

I used the 50mm 1:2 lens. The flash unit was simply slipped into the base on the camera, no other connection, ie no pc cord. Off the camera the flash fires when the test button is pressed independent of the mode. In other words, it fires in either mode when off the camera when using the test button on the flash.
Dale, what difference would the lens make? The lens is not connected to the flash circuitry in any way other than possibly via the connection to the camera's frame.
Lord Lucan, do you mean to touch the central contact on the base of the flash to the side of the flash mount to see if that fires the flash? That I did not try.
I was once cautioned to not use that flash with my DSLRs because of the potential of damaging the circuitry of either the camera or the flash. However, I have used that flash, with an extension cord from camera to flash with a 1stD, two different Kx, and two different K-70 DSLRs. There has been no apparent damage to any camera or the flash.

I have a Pentax K1000 and a Pentax AF 160SA flash. For curiosity I tried using them to se if I could replicate your dilemma. I did. My flash will NOT work with the camera if the flash is in the manual mode, but does fine when changed to the program mode. Give that a try and let us know.

Welcome to the forum, Ben. I lived in Wisconsin for a few years then moved to my present home, Pennsylvania. When I lived in WI I was in the small (tiny) town of Westfield. Film was still the medium back then and I was shooting with a Pentax. Look forward to seeing some of your work.

As I have stated before, "If you need to explain a joke, it isn't funny." At least to the person needing the explanation.

In the movies, anything can happen and be true. That is the magic of Holywood and cinematography.

Welcome to the forum. The K1000 was the impetus for me going with Pentax when I ventured into DSLR photography. I have a few older manual lenses and they do require a bit more attention than the automatic ones but they still give very good to excellent results. Enjoy the K3 and share some photos when you get them.

Welcome to the forum from the northeast of the country. We often get significant snow fall and it makes for some very interesting landscapes, especially in B/W.

I have owned a K-70 since November 2019 and never knew about the feature llowing to save a RAW file if taking only jpgs. Very handy to know. Thank you Uncle Vanya. Another reason to appreciate the K-70. Makes me happy to have a second one arrive this week (my early gift to myself).

I have a few, but some have not been done for some time. I continue to read a variety of types of literature. In the past I have enjoyed woodworking and stage acting. Have done neither for a few years. Also, enjoyed motorcycling but gave that up this past August when I had an accident, totaled the bike and broke a kneecap. My wife of 50 years said that at 76 I should give up the bike. I agreed. Now I'll stick with the slightly less adventurous hobbies, maybe get back into woodworking again.
