Bird flying backwards?
In my case yesterday, with the K-3iii+70-210+1.4TC+1.7 ICC...
Got a Mourning Dove on the ground running towards me through grass and weeds... smooth appearing body, bobbing head, dappled shade (iso 8000), etc.... some foot motion blurring (shutter set too slow), but perfect eye/head/beak focus on 99% of the images (10 taken). Since the images were a personal test, they've been deleted. You'll just have to take my word for it. ;)
Do the same and I bet you'll be impressed, too.
Now. my biggest worry is TOO MANY keepers and the extra time needed to sort through them to pick the best. :o
Enjoy... M :D

Bird flying backwards... neat trick. How did you train it to do that? I want it to fly forward... Guess I've gotta up my game...
I get similar goodness from the 70-210+1.4 TC+1.7 in-camera crop (210x1.5x1.4x1.7=749.7mm) though it's tricky to hand hold and keep the subject blanketed by the K-3iii's active focal points. :o
Fun times ahead... M :D

Would LOVE to get an annotated set from a Pentax "Ambassador" who specializes in small animal and bird subjects. ;)
I'd even consider paying a nominal fee. :o Anyone...? :)

In the field, my subjects react quickly and I like to work FAST.
The DA*300 has been my 'go to' field lens paired to almost every top-drawer K-camera available for (say) 12 years. In my 'real world' use, its snap to focus-lock is faster than my reaction time and it has NEVER let me down. The K-3iii+DA*300/4+HD1.4TC+CF offers a cost effective, nimble/flexible, and hassle-free kit.
As to the K-3iii+150-450... the very fact you are asking questions about it suggests you have reservations. I found the kit's logistics and fussy demands slow me down.
Just sayin'... M :D
P.S. It's easy to over-think things. Don't get sidetracked by academic built-in camera crop factor usage objections. If CF use hurt image quality, Pentax would not have made it an option. You paid for it... they even added to it (1.7). You can't break it, why not use it? In the 'real world' I found that it serves up tons of extra-goodness and helps the K-3iii to punch well above it weight.

May I ask for a link to an RT workflow that produces results I might be able to fine tune to fit my style? Or... (your workflow :o)?
Thanks for sharing... M :D

Don't forget to include the cost of waste disposal, permits, enhanced ventilation, the need to disclose potentially hazardous property uses when it's time to sell, plus better heath insurance for you and any loved ones that might inhabit the same general spaces near your darkroom (pets, too). I do not trust the safety claims make by others. Mucking around with weird chemicals and their fumes is a no-no in my risk profile.
Good luck and enjoy the season... M

You may feel a "loss"... I try to reframe it as "tuition."
If I had not taken the leap, I may never had known success. The Q7+08 being the best of the best (all-around), closely followed by the K-3 MkIII (nature), If I were to rank things high on a “glad I took the challenge” scale. :o

Go low… when the time comes for you to sell it, you will need to explain away its “defect”” in order to recoup your “investment”.

For 70-210 vs. 60-250 behaviors (personality traits?) NOT mentioned in PF's review of the 70-210, you might find Rush2112's blog comments of some interest. He paired the K-3 MkIII to the DFA 70-210, in one instance, and the DA* 60-250 in another. Scroll down to his section “Choosing the Right Lens is Essential.” PHOTOGRAPHIC CENTRAL: Pentax K3 Mk III Review Series 2 In a nutshell, he favors the DA* 60-250 over the DFA 70-210. Examine his observations/rationale and draw your own conclusions. Cheers... M BTW: My 70-210 experiences match his when paired to the K-3 MkIII and K-1 MkII. |

Are you suggesting that spending several hours in a dedicated/confined space that's light compromised, dealing with and breathing potentially poisonous chemical vapors, makes sense? Good luck with that…
Sorry, that's NOT for me.
I'd rather spend five minutes with Lightroom+etc. quickly fine-tuning an image that can immediately enjoyed by millions of others.
It's easy to become a world-class post processor. I bet if you put your mind to it, now, you could get there before spring ends.
Just sayin'… M

Of course, one would never attach the knob directly to a lens foot in a way that might ruin the foot's threads. Instead, I bet if someone put on their thinking (tinkering?) cap, a proper threaded connector could be found to attach it to a clamp. The rig could then be attached to an appropriate (say) Swiss-Arca style lens foot release plate attached to the lens. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/899230-REG/Sunwayfoto_ddy_58_Discal_C...981&
