I ended up buying a pfofile from Ken Tam Photography for the K3, the profile certainly indicated it needs tweaking to get the best out of the meter using the data transfer software from Sekonic. |

Sorted almost, if you use a remote and 3sec delay you lose the option for the camera to act as wireless master in flash settings. This seems seriously stupid on the part of Pentax.

Seem to have it sorted, set to S1, K3 flash control mode and works on a couple of test shots

Right, deciding to get right into OCF I bought 4 of the Yongnuos. X sync on the K3, flashes all set to Slave 2, 3 secs remote timer with the K3 set to master control and everything works. Not getting exposure as in pitch black! Yes the lens cap is off, tried various apertures and raised the ISO yet no flash is showing in any of my test shots at all. Previously I have been using the elcheapo cowboy studio transmitter and receivers with no issue and would have dragged them out but it decided to rain.

So,what did I take away from this amazing adventure? Bucketloads of enthusiasm and a whole lot of new knowledge about lighting, a very new area for me. Ben is one of those rare individuals that genuinely cares for people and willing to share knowledge with indepth and concise, considered answers. Watching him work under such adverse conditions. Wind, sand and 38 degrees celcius, it took 3 of us to hold the broncolor. Model was late, costume didn't turn up the day before, video guys hit a kangaroo and the sun was past the killer shot moments at sunrise. Any other photographer would have packed up and gone home! He was just poetry in motion to behold. Perfect communication with the model, every few minutes he would check on the light holders to see if we needed to swap out for a break and despite everything he got killer shots. It was a nine hour drive for this opportunity, I would have crawled on my hands and knees! ---------- Post added 02-26-15 at 11:53 AM ---------- If you want to see just how this guy works the cheap camera challenge is worth a look. A ton of people replied to his request for assistants so I didn't bother. The following day I saw a whole bunch more people had applied and basically reading their comments not one said what they were prepared to do, so a friend and I posted we would be prepared to do anything, even empty poo buckets . Next day, My assistants are... :) I will get some pics up soon. Admin has removed my link to the album, will sort something else out. ---------- Post added 02-25-15 at 04:51 PM ---------- Here is a gopro timelapse You Tube |

Well I have done a couple of photoshoots experimenting with off camera flash (new to it) and inspired by Ben Von Wong and his make ordinary people look sporty (google von wong athletic). It has been great watching people with self esteem and body issues go WOW! I have made this an ongoing project because of the positive aspects. I am a serious amateur and what a great experience in empowering people! Well, Von Wong has invited me to assist in a shoot next week and hell yeah!

No change to NT I believe just rebranded. I did have some success using the lightning mode, the only real problem is the sound mode and also in sound mode if I use both the synch and shutter cord connected it appears to operate correctly!

I just wonder why? There is a yellow circle plopped on the image...there is no option to enlarge but if you drag into PS you will get the fullsize 5500 px image. Not trying to be a smartarse, just wondering if I am missing the artistic merit in an image that holds nothing for me aesthetically at all.

This guy won a photo comp: UNCOVER 2014: Winner announced[UNIQID
He was asked the reason for his entry and what was behind the image and replied:
"I'm always happy to talk about my work. The series is largely concerned with the semiotics of photography and the relationship between the physical surface and the image. And in particular the process of looking at photographs and our reading of photographic images as representations of depth on a flat surface.
“To look at a photograph beyond a certain period of time is to court a frustration; the image which on first looking gave pleasure has by degrees become a veil behind which we now desire to see.”
- Victor Burgin (1982)
There is an inherent conflict between the two aspects of the photographic object: the image, a two-dimensional representation as a stand-in for the three-dimensional object/referent, giving presence to an absence; and the physical object itself, a presence which is always meant to be concealed/removed from our perception of the image. To see the reality/truth of the image requires looking beyond/behind the material surface that bears the image (the photograph as a window onto the world). But the nature of photographs frustrates this desire. The silent, stillness of the photographic image, flattened by monocular geometry, frustrates our attempt to see beyond/behind the surface. We cannot command the perspective of the image, or move beyond the edge of the frame, or into the space depicted, and thus become alienated from the gaze of the image/camera.
The two realms of the object and the image are always in confict. And this conflict is particular to the photographic object, because of its silence and stillness (in opposition to moving film) and because of the inherently indexical link to 'reality' (the photograph must always be 'of' something (in opposition to painting, which has been successful in the modernist quest to remove the sign from the surface".
Am I missing something?

Good effort on the moon, we just had cloud and more cloud! I just read the K3 can do up to 2000 multiple exposures, maybe I lack imagination but what the heck could you do with that or even 100?

I was getting into long exposures after learning how to calculate them properly and got a 2hr 20min with my K5 last year and then was told you can fry the sensor. A member of our club then said he had done just that to his Nikon during a 4 hour exposure. I know image stacking is an option but for my projects I prefer a single exposure (light painting). So any ideas as a goof safe margin, an hour, two? There was no damage to my K5 but I now have a K3 and do not want to risk damage.

Definitely an issue with pentax cameras, I have emailed nero as I get intermittent results on both K5 and K3 with only about 60-70% success at best in sound mode.

Tried all of the above suggestions with no avail. I did find that turning the Nero lock off (allows constant triggering) I can get about 75% fire rate, so I think amoringello has hit the nail on the head.
