I've got (and use) both. When you can zoom with your feet, use the 31mm. When you can't - use the zoom.

I have both Fuji X-Pro2 and Pentax K1 systems. The one I would keep if I had to choose is the Pentax, despite being slightly larger and heavier. The Fuji is my preference for lighter weight travel, but it is not as durable or intuitive (my opinion) as the K1. I almost always pick up the K1 if I go for a hike and for all landscape shots. I'd grab the Fuji for street shooting and a camera to carry around all the time.
Fuji glass is superb, as are their film simulations. They also update firmware to add features not present in the original camera sale. With so many different models to choose from, be aware of those with OVF/EVF, which are weather sealed and which lenses have aperture dial or none.

Great timing as Pentax Australia had a 15pct off end of financial year sale. Very happy little Vegemite....

I assume this is for 110V AC (USA and Japan) and not 240V.

The scam is to make your payment in the form of Amazon gift certificates which are emailed to the seller. That's the last you'll see of your money.

I did report this via Amazon chat. Very helpful and keen to put a stop to these clowns.

A no cost solution is to use a standard lens and take panoramic shots in portrait mode and stitch them together in Lightroom.

Tan68 is correct although it is easier to simply follow Pentax instructions. "Ensure that you extracted the .BIN file out of the ZIP (the .BIN file is the only thing that the camera wants)."
To extract (Unzip) a file, you normally just double click (or maybe right click) on the zip file and it will automatically "unpack". (It depends on your computer, but the basic process is very straight forward.) Then grab the resulting .bin file and copy it to your SD card. |

In this case (in Ricoh speak), Unzip and Extract are the same thing - the words are used interchangeably. Glad you had success.

It sounds like you've already checked this, but to be doubly sure, the file you download from Ricoh should be called k1_v130.zip which you need to unzip. The file that goes onto the root directory of the SD card is fwdc228b.bin and it needs to be put into card slot 1 on the K1.

I am thinking now that it is two issues. Photos take longer when they need in camera processing (like setting +1 clarity, for example) and I think I have a slow card and the camera takes a while to write before ready to shoot again.

Has anyone experienced the shutter release inconsistency? The AF locks on, but the shutter doesn't release. It has happened a number of times as if the camera is waiting for some parameter to fall into place, but I'm not sure what. Today when it happened I was in User2 mode which I have set up for landscape, and doing single shot, nothing fancy. I'll have another check of the release priority settings, but as I wrote, that doesn't seem to be the issue.

What Pentax software, if any, does a K1 user need with a Mac and iPad? I use LR6 mainly and am a bit uncertain about what all the Pentax software choices would do. There is Tethered Capture Plug-in, Image Transmitter 2, Image Sync (iPad app), Digital Camera Utility, more? I understand that Pixel Shift processing requires use of Digital Camera Utility 5. Anyone have some experience or recommendations? Thanks much.

Many thanks for posting and sharing on FB. I would have missed this but now have a new K1 at an even better price. Just put the K3 on eBay - end of a beautiful relationship...

I was avoiding upgrading from LR5 but found out that I could buy just the upgrade to LR6 without signing up to CC. I don't use PS much and want to be independent of the Creative Cloud leash.

If Ricoh/Pentax had any balls, they would take distribution away from CR Kennedy. More than one camera salesman has told me how much better Pentax would sell in Australia they didn't have to deal with CR Kennedy.

Many thanks for the repair instructions. I've done this on a DA* 55mm which I had just about given up on. Getting the 7 contacts lined up was a trick. Tiny, tiny parts jumping about. Very fiddly but also quite straight-forward. Must have patience, steady hands, good tools and a clean work area. The lens' SDM AF works again!!
