Ok, this is kind of a noob question, but this is my first DSLR and I am coming from a point and shoot background. On my old camera, I just pushed one of two buttons to zoom in and out. I was kind of expecting the same on the K30 (duh) but it seems the only way to zoom in and out with the 18-135mm lens is to do so manually. Is that true or am I missing something? If this is true, are all Pentax lens like this or do they have some zooms that are motorized and some that are not.
Thanks!

I purchased the blue after B&H misrepresented the fact that they had the silky (matte) finish when they did not. I don't really like the glossy finish, but it is not a bad as some of the pictures I have seen.
I looked at the white but was concerned that dirt/stains etc show up too prominently. I was going to get the black but then decided that a) I don't buy a new camera very often b) there are not many times when I get a color option on a camera and c) I wanted to really have some fun with the camera. Certainly people are going to have opinions about a colored camera, but the fun thing is that it can potentially spark some interesting conversations. Also, I only shoot casually - if I was semi-pro I might have made another choice.

Thank you all very much for your insights and opinions.
@roentarre: can you explain a bit more what a +8 version means?

I recently purchased a K30 with the 18-135mm lens. We will be going to the beach on vacation and I was curious if this was going to be a problem. I wouldn't think so, since both the K30 and 18-135 lens are WR, but I thought I would check. If it is going to be a problem, do you have any suggestions on how I can protect my gear?
Also, my sister suggested I get a UV filter, so I was curious what size UV filter I would get for this lens since I have never used a filter. I would also be interested in any opinions about using the UV filter specifically at the beach, since I have read several opinions in this forum of why people do not use them and do not like them. The lens did come with a hood, which I will be using.
Thanks!

For those who may be interested, I contacted by Adorama and B&H customer service. Both have the blue K30 in stock as of this writing. Adorama has the glossy (crystal) version and B&H has the matte (silky) version. I ordered the K30 from B&H (unimpressive website - multiple things out of stock, no online orders on weekends, an order processing error, 8 days for free shipping vs 2 for Adorama) so we will see if the information on that is correct.

I am curious what people think about the blue version of the K30. I was originally interested in that version, but then I saw some close up pictures of it and it seemed to have a more shiny veneer than I anticipated. I have read some positive impressions but also some pretty negative opinions from people who have handled the blue version. One person said it looked like a toy, which is off-putting. So what do you think?
One further question for those who like this version: given that the blue K30 does not come with the 18-135 lens (you have to go with the black version for that), would you be willing to pay an additional $180 to get both the lens and the blue version?
Thanks!
