So, I'm traveling internationally right now, and decided to invest in a higher end HPRC Hard case (spent around 180 bucks). It was the best decision I have made. If it is a very short trip then taking your camera in a nice camerabag as a carry on works fine, but, in my opinion, anything more than a few weeks, I would prefer an actual carry-on. Lord knows I dont want my expencive gear banging around in a soft camera bag in an overhead compartment......but hey, Im probably crazy, but at least I feel it is safe.

its not about the mega pixle until it is? Out of curiosity, are you taking photos and blowing them up to bigger than the size of a billboard?? If you are, then fair enough, I cant argue that. Cause I have used/seen the work from a few different cameras, ranging from Nikon to sony, and now Pentax, and frankly, Megapixle doesnt play a part about 10. im loving the K-5 at 16, and wouldnt want to deal to much over 22-24 (for financial reasons primarily, to get the bang out of the D800 you better have top notch near medium format type lenses, and I know I cant afford that...)
At the end of the day, I guess we will all see what happens....it could get released at 18megapixle for 2100, or 24megapixle for 1999.....or go the other way, or not get released at all......who knows.....

You know, I was told by a good friend once, when walking through a town or city where you think you have seen it all, walk through again and look up. You will be amazed at what you find. Kinda like what one person posted about going up one side of the street, then the other.....example below, taken in a small town in England.....very small
I think its a pretty cool shot.....

Rupert---I totally agree, and your right, I do tend to just be me no matter what. Things are usually happier that way =). My wonderful wife doesnt understand that either, lol. infact, she just went and bought me some new cloths, cause I havent 'shopped' in the better part of 6+ years, hahaha. To me, as long as Im comfortable, thats what matters. I just noticed the 'surprise' more often then not when people ask what I am shooting with now, and wondered if anyone else experienced the same sillyness. The best is when they see the photos it produces. hahahahaha
Reef/Tom---You know, if you put both your posts together that is probably the exact reason. I have met a few as well that go as far as saying they believe the higher end pentax glass beats canon's too. That said, canon just has the marketing in place as Tom was saying.......
I guess bottom line, i find the social aspect interesting. The competative nature for such things is fun to watch....

I totally agree, I love my K5....I am mearly looking at a second body....if the replacement is up to par, and not over priced it would make a great primary body with my K5 as the back up.....

Im curious, has anyone ever wondered why it seems Pentax has become the 'bastard child' of the digital photo world, even though a lot of Pentax higher end glass competes with both canon and nikon.
Personally I'm not biased to any particular brand, I just want good solid quality that works. I actually started with mirrorless NEX series before upgrading to Pentax myself.
It is just interesting to me that when the brand PENTAX comes up in conversation, more often than not you hear, "ahh, when are you upgrading to Nikon?" Yet, the K-5 and the D7000 have virtually the same senor and insides.......both are great camera's lord knows Im happy with my K-5......

interesting......Ive been thinking the K-30 would be a decent back up camera, 100 bucks off just may make it worth it especially since I dont know when a K-5 replacment is coming....

crew is right....i was gonna say the same thing about your aperture as well. Sunny days you could even drop it to ISO 80 and be fine. You have it correct, the higher the ISO, the more grain. That said ISO 400 is still great on the k-5, BUT, way to high for sunnny days, tie that into f22, and it could def cause focus issues.
I notice your first photo was shot at 1/50th of a second. I am guessing this was handheld? If so, that could cause blur issues as well and no be working in your favor. If your holding the camera, and focusing on still objects, I would be careful to go to far below 1/160. much less and you will cause it to blur (unless your a sniper by trade......then you could probably go a little lower :))
I was gonna post an example or two, but Im finding every photo i post gets heavily compressed (down to 100K or less). If you would like to shoot me an email I'd be happy to send you some example photos with the setting I used, maybe you can test yours out to match....then go from there. I have a wide variety of photo examples too if that helps.....

Sir,
First, I have been shooting with my k-5 for about 10 months now, and have never had a low squeal. Not really sure what to tell you there. The click how ever is totally normal.
As for the focus issues you are having, well, there is a number of things that need to be looked at;
-what are you taking photos of?
-fast? slow moving?
-depending on that, what did you set your shutter speed to? ISO settings?
Light can be an issue when focusing since the camera needs it to focus, but if you are taking a photo of a child running, and your shutter speed is 1/60th second, chances are it will be a bit blury.
can you supplu more detail's as to what your taking pictures of? what sort of ambiant light...ect?

Hi all,
I dont really take part in many forums, but figured I have been visiting this one for a while, so why not. I'm a K-5 owner, with only a few lenses. Just picked up the 31mm limited (amazing lens). I enjoy all types of photography....
I guess if anyone has any questions, or wants to know more, just ask =)

Well, I couldnt decide between this one, and another with my son running from a splashing wave. So, I figured we are only aloud one, so I'll do this one to test the waters =). Not the easiest shot considering the speed they were racing....then again, neither was the wave shot, HAHA
