KAF3, KAF2, KAF or KA mount ...!

Hi.
As a newbie to SLR, I have some problems understanding which lenses fits my K-5! This is what I reand when reading the specs on dpreview:

Lens mount:
• Pentax KAF2 bayonet mount
• Pentax KAF3, KAF2, KAF or KA mount lenses
• Pentax K mount lenses with restrictions

When I search for used lenses on the net, I see (ex.) these terms:

- SMC Pentax-A 1.7 50mm lens (P/K-A mount)
- Pentax SMC P A 16mm f/2.8 Lens
- Sigma 28mm F2.8 PK-A Fitting for Pentax DSLRs, K7 K5 K10d *
- Pentax SMC P DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF AL

I simply don't understand which lenses fits my camera when searching the net :-( It's a jungle out there ;)

If you look at the third example, the PK-A is not present at the lens-mount spec. from dpreview, but the seller says it will fit a K5! I'm confused.

Can anybody enlighting me :)

Kind regards

Frank

‎'Well you see, Norm, it's like this .... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells… Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.'

Hi all.
Thank you for all your inputs :-) I might be over ambitious, but as I wrote I am really a rookie so I'm glad you enlighting me :-) There is a hunters cabin in the woods that I've got a permit to use, so I hope the wildlife will get a little closer :-)

Take care,

/Frank

Hi Russ.
Copenhagen indeed :-) I really like your photos, I hope I'll master my K-5 the same way ... someday :-) I can see you've been to the Black Diamond, beatyful architechture. It's kind og fun, that when I was a kid, the very same spot (by the habour) you've been, was the playingground for us kids. Then it was hasardous to go in the water because of chemicals (led, petrol etc.). Today the water is so clean, that you can go in with no second thoughts! Times has surely changed :-)
Not much light in Copenhagen in march, but if you went 300 km further north, you would have seen the most beatyful spot in Denmark, Skagen. It's very famous for its light (painters and photographs have spend a lot of hours there, through the time). Its also the most nothern spot in Denmark, and you can see to oceans clash at the tip :-)

Take care,

Frank

Which lens?

Hi.
I am brand new to the SLR world, and have got myself a K-5 yesterday. I bought the kit with the 18-55 lens. As my budget for a camera almost doubled the amount of $ I imagined when choosing the K-5, theres no room for a tele-lens the first couple of months :( But as my idea by having a SLR is to take pictures of the forest/birds/wildlife right outside my door, I better make a lens high priority - I'm pretty sure the fox/badger/owl/eagle is long gone when I try to sneak in on them with the 18-55 lens! My means are limited, so can you recommend an economy lens I can use to take some OK photos from a distance of, say 300-350ft? I am going to buy some quality lenses down the road, but right now I just have to be content with the next-best (or third-best) ;)

Kind regards

Frank

Hi fellow Pentax-dudes ;)
Seven hours ago, I bought my first Pentax camera, a K-5. I have used most of the week reading reviews on the net, and somehow I was focused on a Canon. Then yesterday, I found out that my old - "camera-pusher" who I thought was bankrupted years ago, still existed, in a smaller store though. I looked at their website and saw that they - besides selling Canon and Nikon - also sells Pentax. I was curious and spend all of the night (and I realley mean that I spend from around 1am to 9am!) reading reviews online on the K-30 and K-5, and comparing them to Canon/Nikons in the same price range. When the shop opened, I drove my motorbike the 50 miles to Copenhagen to buy a camera. When I stood there with the Canon 550D, Canon 600D, Nikon 3200, Nikon 5100, the Canon 60D and the two Pentax'es, there were not any doubt at al; the Pentax'es simply feels so more robust and solid, not to mention the feel og genunine quality. So the battle stood between the two. As I could not find any thorough and comphrehensive reviews on the K-30 and the "hands on" reviews was a little negative about som minor things, I blew my budget and bought the K-5 :o So no money to buy a decent tele-lens so I can take pics of the birds/wildlife in "my" forest (live in a little house in Sealands 3. biggest forest district) :(

And last, but not least: I am definately a rookie when talking is about SLR's, but I hope that I can get some usable hints about choosing lenses, filters, camera functions etc. :)

Have a nice day/evening :)

Kind regards
